Chapter 17: Snowy
Amelia looked at the tiny white kitten at Kaiser's feet and said, "She looks so cute."
"But she doesn't seem very healthy" Kaiser replied as he crouched down to gently stroke the kitten's head. The little creature didn't resist his touch and even nuzzled into his palm
Using both hands, Kaiser carefully picked up the kitten and began examining her.
"A female" Amelia noted, watching as Kaiser turned the kitten over to check her condition
"She doesn't have any major injuries, just looks a bit malnourished. And since she doesn't have a collar, she's probably a stray"
"What do you think about adopting her? She seems to really like us, and meeting her like this… it feels like fate" He said, glancing at Amelia
"Fate…" Amelia murmured, her gaze meeting Kaiser's. A faint blush crept across her cheeks.
"So, what do you think? Would you like to adopt her?" Kaiser asked
"A-Ah, I… I'd love to" Amelia stammered, his question pulling her back to realit
"But there are already other cats at my palace. I don't think it's a good idea to bring a weak kitten like this there"
Kaiser nodded in understanding "In that case, I'll adopt her. We don't have any pets at home yet."
With that, he stood up, holding the kitten in his arms. Turning to Amelia, he said "I think we should ask Farah and Zani about this first"
"I agree. Let's go ask them" she replied
The two of them walked toward Farah and Zani, the kitten cradled gently in Kaiser's hands.
"Can I keep it?" Kaiser asked, holding the kitten up to the two women
Farah raised an eyebrow, smirking as she saw the kitten
"Oh? Are you trying to tell me this kitten is your new responsibility now? You've barely figured out your own life, and now you want to take care of another living creature?"
Kaiser sighed, having expected her teasing
"I think she deserves a chance. She's just a kitten, and she looks like she needs help"
Farah crossed her arms, her tail swaying playfully
"Hmm, are you sure you're not just taking her in because you think she's as cute as Amelia?" she teased, shooting a sly glance at Amelia
Amelia's face turned bright red
"S-Stop teasing us!" she protested, her voice flustered.
Zani, standing quietly beside Farah, observed the kitten closely
"She does look weak. Are you planning to find her mother first before deciding to keep her?"
"That's a good idea" Kaiser replied
"If her mother is nearby, we should try to reunite them"
And so, the group began searching the area for any sign of the kitten's mother. Kaiser and Amelia checked behind food stalls and under carts, while Farah and Zani searched quieter alleys. The kitten mewed occasionally, as if calling out, but there was no response.
After nearly an hour, Zani shook her head
"No sign of her mother. Either she's truly a stray, or her mother isn't anywhere nearby."
"Well, that settles it then" Farah said with a grin
"She's all yours now, Kaiser. Congratulations, you're officially a cat dad."
Amelia giggled softly at Farah's comment but quickly tried to hide her smile when Kaiser glanced her way
"Fine" Kaiser said, holding the kitten closer
"I'll take care of her. But for now, let's take her to the market. She needs some food"
The group agreed and headed to the bustling market. The kitten, now cradled in Kaiser's arms, seemed calm and content. At a pet supply stall, Kaiser purchased a small bottle of milk and a dish for her.
"She's going to need a name" Amelia said, watching Kaiser feed the kitten.
"Any ideas?" Kaiser asked, glancing at her
Amelia tilted her head thoughtfully "How about… Snowy? Her fur is so white and soft."
"I think Snowy suits her" Kaiser said, nodding in agreement
He looked down at the kitten, who was eagerly drinking the milk "Snowy it is, then"
The group spent the rest of the morning exploring the market, Snowy occasionally peeking out of Kaiser's arms. By midday, they decided to head home, with Snowy nestled comfortably in Kaiser's hold, already fitting in with the group
—
Not far from where Kaiser and his friends had stood, two figures watched silently from the shadows, their presence unnoticed
"Should we approach him, my lord?" one of them asked
"No" the other replied, his ember-colored eyes gleaming with an air of nobility "Leave him be, His life is stable now. Just assign a few people to keep an eye on him"
"And warn them to be cautious of the owner of that house. That person is not someone to be taken lightly" the man said, his gaze lingering on Kaiser, who was smiling brightly with his companions.
