Chapter 17: Chapter 16 – Dance of the Ninetails
That morning in Hinabata District, something warm stirred beneath my blanket. Still half-asleep, I assumed it was Aisha—but when I peeked, I saw a familiar face.
"Morning, Master," Yuki whispered with her mature voice, her amber eyes glowing faintly.
"Yuki...? Oh right—today's your date."
She giggled softly, her soft chest pressing lightly against me. I blushed. Aisha had been the first monster I tamed and transformed. Yuki, the fourth. They'd been competing for my attention ever since, and now it made sense why the others suddenly gave up. They'd made a schedule.
After getting dressed, we stepped out of the inn. The other girls were waiting, each one giving us knowing glances. Aisha's face glowed with irritation—jealousy, maybe.
The merchant Bahar was waiting beside his caravan. "This will be the last kingdom I visit," he said. "From here on, everything's within walking distance. Plenty of towns scattered close together."
It was only then I realized—I never asked for his name.
"The name's Bahar Brosto," he finally told me.

Road to Indrasia
As we rode through the open plains, Bahar glanced back. "So… why do you have so many girls with you?"
I shrugged. "It's a long story." Then I shared everything—how I started with zero stats and only a Rank-E Tamer Class, and how each girl joined me one by one. When I mentioned Luna, Bahar stiffened.
"I remember her," he said. "I'm… sorry for what happened."
Luna's eyes glowed red, her tail crushing an empty box with a snap. Yuki narrowed her eyes toward Luna, amber gleaming.
Luna teared up. "I'm sorry, Master... I didn't mean to ruin Yuki's day."
Bahar explained that Luna had been caught by poachers and handed to him to sell—just before Mister Dauge placed his request. Luna's rage faded slightly at the truth.

A Date by the Lake
By noon, we stopped beside a beautiful, glimmering lake to rest the horses. The other girls went off together, giving us privacy.
Yuki and I stayed behind. I noticed something strange—she only had one tail. Weren't ninetails supposed to have... nine?
"Why do you have one tail?" I asked. "Aren't you a Ninetail?"
"Ara~ It's for disguise," she said, using my first name again. "Don't you like it better this way, Ares?"
The way she said my name made me blush. Her voice was soft, mature, teasing.
Compared to Aisha, Yuki was slightly taller, with radiant sky-blue fur, a soft fluffy tail, and piercing blue eyes. She noticed me staring.
"Ara~? You're looking at me the same way you looked at Aisha," she teased.
"Yuki… do you love me?" I asked bluntly.
She twitched her ears. "Ara~ A sudden confession? I do love you, Ares. Ever since you tamed me."
"In that case, take my surname."
"Eh? Ares!!" She tackled me to the grassy ground.
Her nine tails suddenly appeared, fanning out behind her like a snowy halo. As our lips met under the clear sky, her kiss was cool like frost, yet it stirred a fire in my chest. Yuki wasn't just teasing anymore—she meant it.
"I'm… your second kiss?" she whispered, touching her lips.
"Didn't Aisha tell you?" I chuckled.
"I knew she was your first," Yuki pouted—but smirked right after.
Just then, a ripple disturbed the lake. A monster burst from the water, heading straight for us. From the trees, Aisha charged in with her axe and slammed it back into the lake.
"DON'T. DISTURB!" she shouted.
Yuki and I blinked in shock. Before we could speak, Yuki quickly kissed me again—and again—making Aisha fume in silence.
Soon after, Bahar called us back. We continued our journey toward the Indrasia Kingdom.
---
Welcome to Takarja City
By dusk, we arrived at Takarja City, the capital of Indrasia Kingdom. Bahar dropped us at a nearby inn before heading off.
The girls split off, while Yuki and I resumed our date. The hum of machinery echoed through the streets—metallic limbs, steel servants, and complex magic circuits everywhere. Indrasia was a kingdom of science and sorcery combined. The source of modern magic.
Suddenly, a loud boom erupted. A machine exploded nearby, flames roaring up into the sky. The fire spread quickly, consuming nearby houses. People screamed and scattered.
A voice echoed in my mind. "Help me!!"
I froze—but Yuki grabbed my hand.
"Ares. Calm down," she whispered into my ear. "You're not alone anymore."
I nodded. "Yuki, help as many as you can!"
"The fire's too thick! I can't see anything!" she responded.
"Then... Blood Sense."
I activated my Blood Magic to trace the survivors.
"Follow the trails!" I ordered.
"On it!" She vanished in a flash, using Plasma Step to dash through the flames, switching to Cryo Slide to cool the area. The fire began to weaken, but it wasn't over—another machine was ready to explode.
Panic rose again. I dashed to it, but the heat was unbearable. Using Terra Magic, I coated my hands and grabbed it.
I dashed forward, Plasma Step flaring beneath my boots, and vaulted to the tallest building nearby. With a roar, I hurled the overheating machine into the sky—detonating a Cryo Bomb mid-air. A brilliant snowburst followed, smothering the flames below.
In the sky, it exploded in a shower of snowflakes. The fire died.
By the time the Water Mages arrived, the flames were already gone. The survivors thanked me with tearful joy. As I turned, Yuki stood nearby, watching. I walked over and hugged her tightly.
"You were amazing," I whispered.
She blushed, turning her head away. I reached up and gently tilted her chin back toward me. As snow drifted down around us, our lips met again—cool, soft, lingering.
"Yuki," I asked, "why were you blushing before?"
"Ara~ why ask?" she murmured. "Maybe it's because you looked so cool earlier."
"What?"
"I fell in love with your cuteness before… now I love your cool side too."

Night of the Frostvolt Ninetails
That night, Yuki and I returned to the inn.
> Yuki Meledric
Race: Fox-kin (Frostvolt Ninetails)
Class: Assassin
Magic: Cryo, Plasma
Level: 352
Ability: Assassin Flash I – When activated, boosts user's Agility by 100%
She stood before me, undressed. I turned my gaze to her eyes, but even the graceful Yuki blushed under the candlelight.
Without hesitation, I took her hand and gently pushed her down—just like she had done to me earlier. She gasped in surprise.
"Ara~ Is Ares becoming bold now?" she teased, lips curling into a smile. "Do you like what you see?"
"I do."
"Then take responsibility," she whispered.
"I will."
We held each other close, her warmth against mine, until sleep gently took us.

Shadow in the City
Outside, the others stood guard. Aisha spotted a cloaked figure moving through the dark alleys.
She followed—swift and silent.
The figure turned out to be the culprit behind the explosions. With practiced ease, Aisha disarmed and pinned him down. Soon after, she handed him over to the Water Mages.
And so the day ended.

Tomorrow is Reshia's turn. I wonder what surprises she has in store for me.
