Chapter 43: 008| The gay wife(1)
Upon completing the shoot, Zhong Shao returned to his apartment in the middle of the night.
A night light illuminated the living room as he placed his suitcase by the storage cabinet and tiptoed towards the master bedroom.
"Why are you back in advance?" Zhong Shao's kiss barely landed on Yu Cheng's face before he woke up in a daze, "Without informing me."
"How can you sleep so lightly?"
With no lights on, the two engaged in a quiet conversation.
Yu Cheng reached out to Zhong Shao's jaw and cheeks, playfully commenting, "Your stubble woke me up."
Removing his hand, Yu Cheng regained some clarity and quickly understood why Zhong Shao had returned early.
"Zhong Shao, how can you, at your age, still play at being romantic?"
The lingering end of the half-awake conversation carried the stickiness of the night and the youthful spirit of years gone by.
"Romance is something that even when I'm an 80-year-old man, I can still indulge in when I feel like it."
Without giving Yu Cheng a chance to fully wake up, Zhong Shao continued, "I'll freshen up, you go back to sleep, no need to wait for me."
During Zhong Shao's absence, Yu Cheng had kept busy and was currently exhausted, so he truly didn't wait for Zhong Shao.
Sinking into the bed, Zhong Shao, with the coolness from his wash, wrapped his arm around Yu Cheng's waist.
When Zhong Shao emerged from the room in his casual attire, Yu Cheng came out of the kitchen holding freshly steamed buns.
"How did you sleep?" Zhong Shao asked as he pulled out a chair and sat down.
"Is this a return gift for me?"
Referring to the breakfast spread of a mix of Chinese and Western cuisines on the table - a drawer of vegetable and mushroom buns, a drawer of shrimp dumplings, a cheese and bacon sandwich, two bowls of millet porridge, and two cups of Americano.
Yu Cheng mimicked Zhong Shao's nonchalant tone from the previous night, "Even if I were an 80-year-old man, I would still be able to make you a Chinese and Western breakfast."
Zhong Shao held the handle of his coffee cup, unable to hide his smile.
In reality, this breakfast didn't take much effort. The buns, dumplings, and some other frozen and refrigerated foods were all stocked by Zhong Shao before leaving, the millet porridge was cooked in a rice cooker, the coffee was ground by a coffee machine, and only that sandwich, which took up a negligible amount of his time.
After finishing the last sip of coffee, Zhong Shao asked, "We still have a week of vacation, where would you like to go?"
"There is actually a place I would like to visit," Yu Cheng replied.
"Where?"
"At the foot of Mount Huangming."
On their way to the high-speed rail station, they each had a small amount of luggage. During the journey, Tan Ye received a phone call and discussed a few work arrangements with Zhong Shao.
Zhong Shao answered the call with a Bluetooth headset, leaving the phone on the armrest. After the call, the phone returned to the lock screen. He changed the screen to a picture of two people from behind, taken by a passerby under a street lamp in City B when he and Yu Cheng went to the Middle School that night.
That night, this photo appeared on social media.
According to the original post, it was just a candid shot taken unintentionally. At that time, only the back view was visible, which was deemed very compatible. The parties involved were envious and wanted to draw some courage from it. Upon returning home, he still liked and was very satisfied with this candid shot, so he casually shared it on his social media.
Hoping that one day, he would have the courage to walk openly on the street with the person he loves, disregarding the gaze of others. Somehow, this post, along with the picture, quickly went viral. Sharp-eyed netizens recognised the two figures in the photo as somewhat resembling Zhong Shao and Yu Cheng. They dug out the recent flight and itinerary of the two, connected it to the location near the Middle School identified by the original post, and the photo was quickly pushed to the trending topic #ZhongShao&YuChengSuspectedNightVisittoCityB'sNo.1Middle School#.
Zhong Shao and Yu Cheng have both been in the hot topic before, but being in the spotlight together was a first. Surprisingly, Tan Ye, as Zhong Shao's manager, found out about his boss's romantic night out the day before their flight through the trending topic.
As another person aware of their relationship, Miaomiao shared the trending topic in the group in the middle of the night, wanting to know the opinions of the two parties. Although she had been with Yu Cheng for a considerable amount of time, she had never dealt with suspicions about his love life.
The previous evening, the intense back-and-forth game played by the two individuals ended. Zhong Shao was awakened by a phone call from Tan Ye before boarding the plane. During the call, he simply responded with "I understand," and then picked up his phone to check the trending topics while lying in bed.
Surprisingly, both of them found it captivating. Shortly after, they expressed their approach to the situation in the group chat - handling it with indifference. Neither admitting nor denying, they chose to ignore it.
This was a matter of their private emotions, which could range from dusk to dawn, allowing them to embrace and kiss freely without the obligation to disclose every rumour to the public.
Their cautiousness stemmed from their deep appreciation for each other.
Zhong Shao and Yu Cheng chose to take the high-speed train to "the foot of Huangming Mountain" and switched their phones to silent mode.
While the two were heading south, a video started circulating on various social media platforms and short video websites.
The video can be divided into three main parts: an overview of the current situation of the "third restroom" in City B, interviews with random pedestrians from five districts of City B about their understanding of the "third restroom," and a summary on how to transition the discussion of the "third restroom" from being a topic of interest to widespread application.
Unlike Western countries which commonly refer to the "third restroom" as a "unisex toilet," in China, these facilities are labelled in English as "family restroom" or "accessible toilet." The Chinese concept of the "third restroom" is more focused on meeting the needs of opposite-sex parents accompanying children and providing convenience for relatives escorting elderly or disabled individuals who have difficulty using regular facilities. City B, being one of the leading economic cities in the country, currently has over two thousand restrooms, among which 257 are found locked due to issues related to smoking in the toilets by citizens and tourists.
Random visits were conducted in bustling commercial streets, university areas, and residential neighbourhoods in the five major districts of City B, with a total of 65 samples collected. Eight of these samples were from sexual minority groups, and the age range of the samples varied from 15 to 65 years old. Among the respondents, 80% expressed unawareness of the original intention behind establishing the third restroom to serve sexual minority groups and reduce gender-related controversies, evolving into a restroom without gender distinctions for any user with needs. The remaining 20% of the survey sample mentioned that the interviewees who understood the original purpose of the third restroom as a unisex toilet were aged between 20 and 38 years old. Regarding the question of whether they have used the third restroom, only three females, two males, and five sexual minority individuals reported having used it. Their reasons included long waiting times at the female restroom, accompanying children, elderly people needing assistance, and avoiding entering male/female restrooms.
Despite the construction of over a thousand third restrooms in City B, their awareness and usage rates remain low. When asked why public needs have not considered the implementation of the third restrooms, all three sexual minority groups mentioned that the main hindrance to using the facilities is the awkward status of minority gender cultures in today's society. Finally, in response to the question of whether they were aware of or paid attention to the recent violent incidents in the unisex toilet in Ning City and their opinions on the matter, the sample responses varied. However, it can be confirmed that more than half of the samples have paid attention to or are currently following the incidents, with 65% believing that violent assaults are wrongful acts, although the victims of the incidents were not specifically mentioned.
The video was released through the MCN company account under the management of Fu Qiao. As the main sponsor, he generously provided a wave of paid traffic, yet unbeknownst to many, the video was actually orchestrated by Zhong Shao.
