Chapter 22:
Chapter 22:
The grand disciple initiation ceremony had finally reached its conclusion.
Although it wasn’t the kind of spectacle everyone anticipated, it turned out to be a spectacle of its own kind. Most of the audience seemed satisfied—everyone except the members of the Azure Purity Sect.
What was supposed to be a moment of triumph for them had turned into a stage for Zhou Tong, the sect’s discarded disciple, to deliver one humiliation after another. They had lost not only their dignity but also their honor.
Tang Qi, in particular, was seething with rage. Watching Zhou Tong bask in the adoration of beautiful women felt like salt rubbed into the wound of his defeat. His frustration reached its peak, and the demonic energy within him almost erupted.
“Trash will always be trash,” Tang Qi muttered to himself, clenching his fists. “Even if he enjoys a fleeting moment of triumph, in the end, he’ll be nothing more than a stepping stone under my feet. This world belongs to me!”
As the crowd began to disperse, Murong Ya, beaming from ear to ear, gathered her three beloved disciples under her flowing wide-sleeved gown and prepared to leave.
“It’s getting late; we should head back now,” she said.
“You can’t leave just yet!” Mo Liusu’s sharp voice cut through the air, halting everyone in their tracks.
“Return the Seven-Star Crimson Lotus!” Mo Liusu demanded.
“Ptui!” Without even looking back, Murong Ya spat in her direction and led her disciples away.
The air seemed to freeze in an instant.
…
“Master, you’re so cool! I like you even more now!” Long Lingyun said, her eyes sparkling like little stars as she gazed at Murong Ya with admiration.
“You’re just a little girl who hasn’t seen much of the world,” Murong Ya chuckled. “This is nothing. The truly impressive stuff is still to come!”
“Hahaha…” Zhou Tong couldn’t help but laugh, exchanging a sly glance with Murong Ya, the kind of look shared between two cunning foxes who had successfully stolen a chicken.
“Oh, oh, oh… Look at you two, acting so in sync!” The little enchantress couldn’t resist adding her two cents, her tone dripping with jealousy. “I didn’t expect someone to be so fickle! As soon as you got a new disciple, you forgot about the old ones!”
“Now, now, don’t get upset, Yue’er. There’s a big surprise waiting for you when we return to the sect. You’ll love it,” Murong Ya reassured her.
The four of them sped through the skies, crossing vast distances until they finally arrived at the Red Dust Mountain.
“I never imagined the once-mighty Joyous Harmony Sect would fall into such a state of disrepair,” Long Lingyun remarked, her tone filled with lament as she surveyed the desolate mountain.
They soon reached the sect’s entrance, where a dilapidated signboard swayed in the wind. Long Lingyun paused, her gaze fixed on the signboard’s three characters. Despite the decay, she found them aesthetically pleasing and couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration.
“What beautiful calligraphy! ‘Heaven rewards diligence!’”
“That says ‘Joyous Harmony Sect’! Are you seriously illiterate? Even if you can’t read, at least you should recognize numbers!” The little enchantress was utterly dumbfounded. Although Zhou Tong had already explained Long Lingyun’s “root of unlettered enlightenment,” witnessing it firsthand was still shocking.
“She’s not faking it, is she?”
“She’s not. I’ve seen cases even worse than this,” Zhou Tong replied.
As soon as they stepped into the sect, both the little enchantress and Long Lingyun grew alert.
“Be careful! There’s an unfamiliar presence here. Someone’s been here recently!” The little enchantress’s expression darkened as she sprinted toward the sect’s storage room.
Zhou Tong and Murong Ya exchanged glances before following her.
With a loud bang, the storage room door was slammed open, revealing an empty interior. Everything had been cleaned out.
“Damn thieves!” The little enchantress’s face turned pale, her earlier joy completely wiped away.
This was the last of the Joyous Harmony Sect’s reserves. Worse still, the spiritual herbs needed to refine the Bodhi Pill had been stolen. Without them, they couldn’t cure Murong Ya’s heart demon.
“Don’t worry. I know who did this,” Zhou Tong said calmly. He waved his hand, and countless tiny formations flew in from all directions, assembling into a projection.
“I almost forgot you’re a master of formations!” The little enchantress’s mood lifted slightly, her anxiety easing as she saw Zhou Tong had prepared for this.
Soon, the projection displayed several middle-aged men moving with lightning speed, clearing out the storage room in mere moments.
“Heh… old acquaintances, huh? The Azure Purity Sect has stooped this low!” Long Lingyun seethed with anger. These men were all elders of the Azure Purity Sect, taking advantage of Murong Ya’s absence to plunder the Joyous Harmony Sect.
“This is outrageous! I’ll go settle the score with them!” The little enchantress was about to rush off but was stopped by Zhou Tong, who grabbed her wrist.
“Relax. If they want it, let them have it.”
“When did you become so generous?” she asked, bewildered.
“That’s because someone else is even more generous than us,” Zhou Tong replied, glancing at Murong Ya. “Master, show them what you’ve got.”
“With pleasure!” Murong Ya laughed and waved her wide sleeve. Like a scattering of stars, countless treasures poured out, forming small mountains.
The little enchantress and Long Lingyun were dumbstruck, staring in disbelief. The treasures included pills, spiritual herbs, and spirit stones, far exceeding what they had lost—by at least tenfold.
“Master, who did you rob this time?” the little enchantress asked instinctively.
“Don’t say it like that. It’s called returning the favor,” Murong Ya corrected, her tone smug. “Since they dared to steal from us, they should’ve been prepared for retaliation. While you were busy facing off against them, I made a quick detour and helped myself to their treasury.”
“Master, you’re incredible!” the three disciples exclaimed in unison, bowing in reverence. This time, they had truly hit the jackpot.
…
At Xuanyuan Mountain, within the Azure Purity Sect.
The other sects had already left, leaving only a mess in their wake. The sect was in disarray.
“Mo Liusu, this is all your doing!” Elder Baihe berated her angrily. “I’m going to impeach you for abusing your authority as sect leader. If you hadn’t driven Zhou Tong away, we wouldn’t have suffered such a humiliating loss today!”
The other elders remained silent, their expressions grim, but their eyes betrayed their discontent.
“Calm down. Everything is under control,” Mo Liusu said coolly. “It won’t be long before the Joyous Harmony Sect is erased completely.”
As she spoke, several elders stepped forward, presenting the stolen treasures from the Joyous Harmony Sect.
“These are what you took from the Joyous Harmony Sect?”
The others exchanged glances, their eyes gleaming with greed. The treasures were undeniably valuable.
“Well, this should at least compensate for our losses,” some of the elders remarked, visibly pleased.
But then, a panicked disciple came running in, stumbling over his own feet. His face was pale with fear.
“What’s the rush? This is the Azure Purity Sect. Even if the sky falls, someone will handle it,” Mo Liusu scolded.
“Mo… Mo Zhenren! The sky really has fallen! Our sect’s treasury has been looted!”
The room fell silent as if struck by lightning.
“You’re lying!”
“I wouldn’t dare! Look for yourself!” The disciple handed her a piece of paper with trembling hands. Mo Liusu glanced at it, and her face turned ashen. Written on the paper were the words: “Murong Ya was here!”
“Damn you! This is irreconcilable!” Mo Liusu roared, her fury erupting as she spat out blood.
“I’ll report this to the enforcers! I’ll have the Joyous Harmony Sect’s title revoked for their lack of merit!”
