Chapter 6 - Seras (4)

Chapter 6 – Seras (4)

The matter was resolved swiftly.

With quick processing, Seras became my daughter.

However, we couldn’t go home right away; after Seras became my daughter, we had to stay in Eastwell for about a day.

But.

‘Do you want to go read a book you like?’

‘I prefer staying here.’

Strangely, from that day on, Seras refused to leave my arms.

Is it normal for a daughter of this age to cling to her father?

Seras isn’t old enough for puberty yet, and at 10 years old, she’s at the age where girls insist they’ll marry their dads.

‘If you want to stay, that’s fine.’

I stroked Seras’s hair.

As I felt before, her hair is incredibly soft.

After stroking her hair for a while, Seras grabbed my hand.

I tried to pull my hand away, thinking I might have stroked too much, but.

‘Um… I’m hungry, can I suck a little?’

Seras pointed at my shoulder.

‘Sure.’

I lifted Seras slightly to allow her to bite my shoulder.

‘Here, enjoy your meal.’

Unlike the first time she sucked blood from my shoulder, it didn’t hurt.

It was just a slight stinging sensation.

I was impressed with myself for letting her bite my shoulder when she was in that frenzied state back then.

How on earth did I endure that pain?

‘Is it tasty?’

‘Yes….’

‘I’m glad.’

‘But, Caesar.’

‘Dad.’

‘Huh?’

‘I’m your father now, so I can’t let you call me by my name like that.’

The Land of Eastern Courtesy.

For me, who grew up in South Korea, a country of traditional values, forms of address are a serious matter.

And yesterday, we established a father-daughter relationship.

‘Ah, Dad….’

‘Yes, go ahead.’

‘How did you know I was a blood demon?’

The reason I knew Seras was a blood demon was because I knew the content of the novel.

‘Just intuition.’

‘Really? Dad, you’re amazing. You can use magic too.’

Seras seemed to be sleepy with a full stomach and fell asleep using my lap as a pillow.

‘How cute.’

I properly laid Seras down and left the room.

My right arm still wasn’t moving properly, and I almost woke Seras up, but fortunately, she didn’t wake.

‘Now I should go home.’

‘Then we’ll need to pack Seras’s belongings.’

‘Aaagh!!!’

The director came between my self-talk.

It meant I didn’t need to go to the director’s office.

‘Does Seras have belongings too?’

‘Of course. She’ll have clothes and books she likes.’

‘I see.’

‘Seras is a child who likes books that are rare these days, so I bought her quite a few.’

Being in an orphanage doesn’t mean she wouldn’t have possessions.

‘Understood. I’ll help too.’

‘That would be appreciated.’

I followed the director to Seras’s room.

To think that Seras had been staying here.

She was living in a really nice place.

It looks better than where I stayed in Seoul.

No, it’s even better.

Warm, with a bed and a desk.

To me, who ate ramen for three meals a day, Seras’s room looked like a hotel.

‘I’ll give you Seras’s clothes, and you can sort and organize them.’

‘Understood.’

The director took out Seras’s clothes one by one and handed them to me.

Dresses, pants, tops, underwear, and so on.

She has more clothes than I do.

I used to wear clothes that were sold at the market, ten pieces for 10,000 won, rotating them.

At this point, I’m starting to think that perhaps the most pitiful one wasn’t the Four Calamities here, but me.

An orphan without anyone in the world.

Staying in a facility worse than an orphanage.

Eating one ramen packet split into three different meals, and finally mixing the last part with rice.

Me, who didn’t have a penny in my bank account.

‘Actually, shouldn’t I have been one of the Four Calamities?’

‘Pardon?’

‘Ah, nothing.’

I wiped away my tears while organizing Seras’s clothes.

***

Seras didn’t have that many belongings, so it didn’t take long.

‘It’s time for me to go now.’

‘Are you leaving already? I think it would be good if you had dinner before going.’

No.

I have to go.

If I delay any longer, I don’t know how Siren will react.

Even if Siren can’t generate magical power on her own, she’s still an elf.

They’re the ones who usually appear as archers in those fantasy web novels.

And the bows that archers use require a certain amount of strength to draw.

That’s how they pierce through the skin of magically enhanced monsters.

Yes.

I’m about to experience the superhuman strength of someone who shoots arrows that pierce monster skin.

‘…I, I have someone waiting for me at home.’

‘Then it can’t be helped.’

‘Are you leaving, mister?’

‘Yes, I have to go. I have someone waiting for me at home.’

‘Then is it Seras’s mom?’

‘Kuh!…..’

I feel like I’m choking even though I wasn’t drinking water.

If she’s Seras’s mom, that would make Siren my wife.

No matter how pretty Siren is, she is absolutely not the type of person I would marry.

It’s absolutely not because I’m sensitive about not having friends.

‘No, just someone who watches the house.’

‘Then…. a dog!’

‘….Something like that.’

‘Wow! I got it right!!!’

The child, thinking she had guessed correctly, jumped up and down and ran to where the other children were.

But why is she coming back? And bringing all the kids with her?

‘Are you really leaving, mister?’

‘Are you going with Seras?’

‘Don’t go! Play with us…..’

The children started telling me not to leave while making crying sounds.

Some of them are even actually crying.

‘Kids, I’ll come often, so don’t cry. I’ll bring tasty things every time I come.’

‘We understand, mister!!!!’

‘……’

To have already learned such a skill.

They’ll do well in social life.

‘Then I’ll be going now.’

I picked up Seras’s luggage.

It was a weight that was sufficient to carry with just my left arm.

This should be enough for me to carry the sleeping Seras.

‘Take care. Come visit often.’

‘I will.’

‘Take care, kids.’

I carried Seras on my back.

‘I’ll come visit often.’

I used spatial magic after a long time.

I thought I might have lost my touch after not using it for a month, but the feeling was still there.

‘Seras, let’s go home.’

And so I returned to Westwell after a month.

***

One month ago.

My foolish master left for Eastwell.

He said it would take at least a week, at most a month.

So I waited.

A week passed.

‘I guess his work is taking longer than expected.’

‘I hope nothing’s wrong.’

With nothing to do, I cleaned the master’s entire house.

It took about three days to clean the entire house with three floors and a basement, as I only had one body.

It wasn’t that difficult.

Two weeks passed.

‘He must be doing something dangerous. I hope he’s not injured anywhere.’

Since the master has no friends, if he gets hurt, only I and his family would worry about him, so at least I should be concerned.

Otherwise, the friendless master would be sad.

Indeed, there’s no secretary like me.

There must be no other secretary as beautiful, diligent, and caring for their master as I am.

I spent time thinking like this.

Three weeks passed.

‘Is the master possibly dead?’

A reasonable suspicion.

He clearly said with his own mouth that he would make time to come here.

He’s not someone who breaks promises.

But there’s no way he wouldn’t show his face even once in three weeks.

Still, since he said it could take up to a month, I should wait one more week.

Four weeks passed.

‘He must really be dead. Otherwise, he wouldn’t leave me alone in this huge house.’

‘Or did the master abandon me?’

‘No, that can’t be. Otherwise, he would have left me in that slave market.’

‘…Ah! Could it be because I didn’t provide services at night?’

After about 4 weeks, various suspicions erupted in my mind.

The master is dead.

The master is actually meeting a woman and living with her.

The master left because he didn’t want to serve at night anymore.

And so on, many thoughts came to mind.

But until I could confirm with my own eyes, I couldn’t validate these suspicions, so I decided to wait just one more week.

I resolved to go to Eastwell when five days had passed after the month the master had promised.

And so five days passed.

‘Today’s the day, the month I promised with master.’

Just in case, I packed a dagger.

I wanted to bring a bow, but there was no bow in this house, and I had no money.

Still, it’s better than nothing.

Now that I’ve finished preparing, I should leave.

‘I’m going now, Master.’

Just as I was about to open the door.

‘I’m back, Siren. Everything alright?’

The master had returned.

With a beautiful child with white hair and red eyes, carrying a bag containing the child’s clothes.

Yes.

My suspicion was right.

‘Siren, why are you suddenly silent?’

He was indeed meeting a woman, and had abandoned me in this house for more than a month.

How beautiful his wife must be, and the child who looks like his daughter is so pretty.

‘Ah~ Is this your first time seeing her? This is Seras, who has now become my daughter.’

So not a child who looks like a daughter, but actually his daughter.

‘Siren? Why are you looking at me like that?’

‘Did you enjoy leaving me abandoned in this house for a month?’

‘Huh?’

‘You promised, Master. That it would take about a month. But now, what is this?’

‘I’m… sorry.’

‘Do you think saying sorry solves everything? You clearly said you would come to see me a few times. But during the past month, did you ever come to see me? Did you even come to Westwell? And what’s with that right arm? Are you injured? Why is it all wrapped up in bandages like it’s broken!!!!….. Why are you hurt?’

I was excited to see the master after so long, but seeing his injured right arm quickly dampened that excitement.

How could he get injured while flirting with a woman?

Could it be that kind of activity I’ve only read about in books?

No, a whip couldn’t break the right arm like this.

Then.

‘Something happened, didn’t it?’

‘You’re quick to assess the situation, aren’t you?’

‘…..Haah, please come in quickly. I’ll prepare some tea.’

‘Thank you.’

I let the Master in to hear his explanation first.

***

Honestly, when I opened the door and saw Siren armed, I considered moving back to Eastwell.

My whole body trembles at the thought that if I let my guard down even for a moment, that dagger might fly at my face.

Still, looking at my right arm, he must have thought there was some circumstance, so he tells me to come in.

‘…Explain yourself.’

Siren, who brought tea, is posing like a man who mass-produced beautiful girls with his wife’s genes.

As if he’s about to put his middle school son on a purple monster.

For reference, I put Seras to rest in my bed.

For now, there are only two beds where she could immediately lie down – the bed in my room and the bed in Siren’s room.

‘First, the reason I couldn’t come for a month is because I was unconscious for a month.’

‘What?’

‘I converted all my mana into blood, so I was unconscious for a month. My right arm was shattered then.’

‘Excuse me?’

‘And Seras is my daughter, as I mentioned earlier. An adopted daughter, but still.’

Siren wasn’t understanding anything I was saying right now.

But since he asked me to explain what happened…

‘Seras is half-human, half-blood vampire. That’s why she was going berserk, and I barely managed to subdue her.’

‘Blood vampire?’

‘She did this to my arm too, but it wasn’t her own will.’

‘So, to summarize the story, you were unconscious for a month, and the reason was because of this Seras, a blood vampire you brought as your daughter?’

‘That’s right.’

‘Master, you’re insane.’

‘That’s harsh talk to your master.’

‘Dad?…..’

At that moment, Seras woke up and came to where we were.

Wearing cute pajamas and rubbing her eyes.
