"Adam, Heir of Water and Eternal Vengeance"

Chapter 13: Ambush in the Dark Night

Night had fallen as Adam, Aelina, and Kael made their way toward Eldorion, a city they believed held crucial clues about the Demon King's weaknesses. The air grew colder, and the moon hid behind thick clouds. Adam couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong, a foreboding that gripped his heart.

"Kael, do you feel like we're being watched?" Adam asked, his eyes scanning the darkness around them.

Kael, leading the group, stopped for a moment, his sharp ears picking up on something unseen. "You're not wrong. We're not alone."

Aelina drew her longbow, magical energy shimmering at the tip of her arrow. "They've probably been tailing us since we left the forest."

Adam gripped his water blade tightly. "Who are they? Demons?"

Kael nodded grimly. "Not ordinary demons. Their energy feels... different. Stronger."

Before they could form a plan, shadows emerged from every direction. Ten figures stepped out from the trees, their towering forms radiating an oppressive aura. They wore black armor that pulsed with dark energy, their red eyes glowing menacingly. One of them stepped forward, wielding a spear whose tip blazed with hellish fire.

"You're bold to wander into these lands," the figure said, his deep voice resonating like a thunderclap. "I am Morath, one of the Demon King's generals. Our king is aware of your pact with the spirits. That was a grave mistake."

Adam felt the crushing weight of Morath's aura but held his sword tighter. "If the Demon King wants to stop us, he'll have to do more than send his soldiers!"

Morath smirked coldly. "You'll regret that arrogance, human."

Without warning, the demons attacked. Chaos erupted instantly.

Kael moved swiftly like a shadow, his bow releasing magical arrows that pierced through two demons at once. The demons dissolved into bursts of darkness as Kael seamlessly prepared for his next strike.

Aelina summoned massive roots from the ground, entangling several demons that charged toward her. But Morath swung his spear, cutting through the roots effortlessly, advancing toward them.

Adam stepped forward to face Morath, channeling the power of the spirit within him. He unleashed a torrent of water, aiming to stop the general in his tracks. But Morath batted the water away with his spear as if it were nothing.

"Your power is intriguing," Morath mocked, rushing forward with blinding speed.

Adam tried to block, but Morath's attacks were overwhelming. A brutal blow from the spear's blunt end struck Adam in the stomach, sending him flying backward. He crashed hard onto the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

"Adam!" Aelina screamed, firing magical arrows to distract Morath.

Kael charged forward, trying to exploit an opening, but Morath unleashed a wave of energy with a single swing of his spear, knocking Kael into a tree with a loud thud.

"This is the power of a Demon General," Morath said, his voice dripping with satisfaction. "You're far too weak to challenge us."

Adam, still lying on the ground, clenched the mark on his arm. He felt the spirit fox within him stir, waiting for him to act.

"I can't give up," Adam whispered to himself. Summoning every ounce of strength, he forced himself to stand, his body trembling. He glared at Morath with unyielding determination. "I'm not done yet!"

The mark on his arm glowed brightly, and the air around him began to tremble. For the first time, Morath's expression shifted, his eyes narrowing with caution.

"That spirit... you dare use its power against me?"

Adam didn't respond. He channeled the spirit's energy, creating a massive vortex of water around him. "This is for everyone you've hurt!" he yelled, launching a combined attack of water and energy from the mark on his arm directly at Morath.

The explosion shook the ground, forcing the other demons to retreat. When the dust settled, Morath stood, but his black armor was cracked, and he looked visibly weakened.

"You've surprised me, human," he said, his voice lower. "But this isn't over." With that, he raised his spear, creating a portal of darkness. "We'll meet again, and next time, you won't be so fortunate."

Morath and his demons vanished into the portal, leaving destruction in their wake.

Adam dropped to his knees, his body weak from expending so much energy. Aelina rushed to his side, helping him up, while Kael stood nearby, breathing heavily and keeping watch.

"This is just the beginning," Kael said. "If Morath is one of the generals, the Demon King is far stronger than we imagined."

Adam looked down at the mark on his arm, feeling the power trembling within it. "I don't care how strong they are. I'll keep fighting, no matter what."

In the distance, thunder rumbled across the sky, as if warning them of the greater storm yet to come. Adam's journey had only become more perilous.
