Chapter 1012: Molting.
Bhairava ran to the core area and when he was about to reach room number seven, he froze in his steps. He was shocked because he saw someone standing outside the room.
He asked, "How did you come out?"
The person was Shi Lang, who was supposed to be inside the room. The Terran replied, "I am still inside, this is a clone I made for backup. I had an inkling that the inflow of Dao would cause me to forget a lot of things, so I made this clone as a memory backup. Can you open the door, the original body is done with the comprehension."
Bhairava took a few moments to wake up from his stupor and then he walked over to the door. He took out the jade token, placed it on the door, and the stone slab slid open.
The clone said, "Can you wait here, I will be out in a few minutes."
Bhairava nodded and then he saw the clone melt into a drop of blood and shot through the void heading inside the room. Shi Lang was very smart; he could tell that something about this setting was not right, and when he asked Bhairava earlier if the people would go mad from being in the exposure to this room for prolonged time. He had already left a drop of his blood outside the door, and when Bhairava left, he let the clone manifest and meditate on his past life.
Inside the room, Shi Lang was sitting in the void and his body was emitting some strong Dao Resonance. It was as if he lost himself in the river of Dao. His expression was so serene and so calm as if he had achieved the highest grade of enlightenment.
A drop of blood hit his forehead, and was absorbed by the skin. The meditation done by the clone began to fuse with Shi Lang, and after a few minutes, the Terran opened his eyes. Although he had recalled his old life, his mind was calm.
The young man thought for a bit and then he walked out of the room. When Bhairava saw him, he flinched for a second, and Shi Lang greeted him with a faint smile. Everything on the surface seemed normal but the depth of his eyes was so strong that it almost sucked Bhairava inside them.
The guard chief bowed and said, "Welcome back. Let us head to meet with Elder Paashu."
Shi Lang nodded and then he calmly followed the guard chief.
…
Shi Lang stood before Elder Paashu and Lady Sutra. The two of them did not show it on their faces, but they were shocked to see him. The young man was resonating with the Dao of Time very intensely, and Elder Paashu asked, "Did you swallow the Time Stone?"
Shi Lang shook his head and replied, "I swallowed all the information that was engraved on it, and carved it in my bones."
Bhairava shivered, and Sutra took a step forward as she asked, "Did you just say that you engraved those primitive and real Dao Runes in your body?"
Shi Lang nodded simply, and Elder Paashu sighed, "That explains why the resonation with him is so strong. I would like to make a suggestion, Shi Lang."
The Terran bowed his head and said, "Please do so, Elder Paashu."
The old man took a deep breath and said, "If possible, seal some of your strength, because the Immortal Plain is not capable of handling such strong resonance without causing an anomaly."
Shi Lang asked, "Why is that, Elder?"
Before the elder could say anything, Sutra spoke up, "The reason is simple. The trunk of a tree is the thickest, while the branches are thin. As you might know, all the worlds are connected with each other through the Dao Plain. They are not capable of withstanding such strong forces or they will crumple."
Shi Lang thought about it for a minute and this explanation did make sense. He nodded and said, "I understand what you mean, Lady Sutra. Thank you for your guidance. Can you tell me how to control these seals?"
Elder Paashu then began to guide Shi Lang on how to cast seals in his body. Although the Terran had cast similar seals to Shi Tao in the past, his situation was a bit advanced and he did not know how to control it. After a few days, Shi Lang learned how to regulate the resonance completely and Elder Paashu said, "Traveller, you got to find this city and managed to achieve what none of your kind ever could. Now is the time to bid farewell. If in the future the city needs your help, I hope you will be able to stand up and lend a hand."
Shi Lang bowed his head to the old man and said, "The city has given me the knowledge that is akin to you all lending me a hand. I will return the favor if the chance comes."
Elder Paashu nodded with a smile and said goodbye to Shi Lang before closing his eyes and going back to meditating. The Terran was led out of the city by Bhairava, and he saw Kragon, the dragon sitting outside the city.
Shi Lang narrowed his gaze and Bhairava said, "He will see you out of the dimensional fold. Farewell, traveller."
The two men shook hands and Shi Lang walked away from the city without turning back. Kragon saw him approach and flew away. Shi Lang followed the beast and at his speed, it was not difficult to keep up with the Dragon.
Suddenly, Shi Lang realized that the dragon had vanished and he was all along. The terran looked around and moved all over the place, but he could not find any dimensional fold. Then he stopped in his place and mumbled, "Hmmm, interesting."
He raised his communicator and called Shi Tao. The call was connected in a blink and the lady said, "Baba, everything alright?"
Shi Lang nodded and said, "Yes, it is fine, I was just calling you to check on the status of that trade deal."
Shi Tao looked at him with a confused expression and said, "You just called me about that one day ago. I have asked Elder Ma Yang to take the lead on it."
Shi Lang nodded and said, "Good. Well, I will be heading to another city, also what about the people who went to the Dao Plain?"
Shi Tao replied, "They went off yesterday night so we have yet to find out anything."
Shi Lang nodded and after a small talk he disconnected the call, and moved to the higher regions of the northern continent. Although he could not find any monks causing disruptions in one city it did not mean that there weren't any in the upper reaches as well.
With his realm he did not feel much cold but it was evident that the air was getting colder. After traveling for two days, he came to a city which was surrounded by black walls and icicles hanging from any surface they could form on.
Shi Lang approached the city and came to the gates. He found a few scrawny looking guards standing there. Although their strength seemed to have been diminished, they all had gazes sharp as blades.
Shi Lang took out a spiritual stone and asked, "What is the procedure to enter the city?"
The guard replied, "Give up all the wealth you have, and then seek the embrace of Zen."
Shi Lang smiled and placed his hands together as he said, "Amitabha, I did not expect to come across a fellow member of the temple."
The guard's expression changed, and he said, "Fellow patron. What brought you to the city?"
Shi Lang smiled splendidly and said, "I came over because I wanted to see if the city had any masters. I wanted to meet and listen to them preach the sutras."
The guards bowed their heads and one of them was assigned to escort Shi Lang inside the city. It did not seem to be much, but this was the best they could do. Shi Lang looked around and asked, "Brother, why is the situation of the city so dreadful?"
The guard shook his head and said, "It is not dreadful, it is all the sins that the city is suffering for."
Shi Lang was confused, and the guard said, "We all are sinners and giving up a life of riches is our way of penance and seeking forgiveness."
Shi Lang nodded, and they came to the biggest building in the center of the city. This place was majestic but there did not seem any positive energy residing here. Shi Lang sensed a couple of high level monks along with their acolytes.
He smiled and said, "I will go inside on my own. You don't have to worry."
The soldier nodded and after greeting Shi Lang he left, while the young man went inside, and mumbled, "Let us see how it feels without the shell."
