Chapter 103
The reason for pausing briefly before breaking down the door and entering was very simple.
It wasn’t that I believed in Delphoi, but on the off chance that Grace had truly returned.
Even if I was 99% sure, without physical evidence, I’d be the one at a disadvantage. The timing was different from what I knew, so I needed confirmation.
And as soon as I closed the door, Delphoi muttered irritably. Adding words that indicated Grace’s presence here.
BANG!!
“I heard it. A voice.”
Once I had secured physical evidence, the only thing left was to charge in. I kicked the door hard and forced my way inside.
I didn’t care whether the door flew off far away and messed up the research lab. What mattered now was Grace.
“W-What the?!”
“··· ···”
Breaking in by force—or rather, smashing the door to enter—left Delphoi utterly flustered.
While watching him panic, I noticed a woman lying in front of him. She was lying neatly on the sofa, as if lifeless.
It was Grace. Perhaps she had been on the verge of being humiliated, as only her upper body was exposed, and it didn’t seem like he had gone further.
‘No, wait. Maybe he already did something.’
He might have touched her chest. My gaze shifted from her figure, hidden beneath purple underwear, to Delphoi.
Delphoi seemed unprepared for this situation, his eyes darting around as if trying to come up with a plan.
Now that his criminal act had been exposed, the only thing left was a proper lesson. I took a step forward.
“W-Wait! Y-You’ve got it all wrong!”
“?”
What nonsense was that? I paused momentarily at Delphoi’s hasty excuse, his hand extended toward me.
Anyone could see this was a situation where he was caught attempting a crime. Even for someone as shameless as Delphoi, this was inexcusable.
“Hey, you might misunderstand, coming from the wilderness and all. This is merely part of the treatment, not what you’re thinking.”
“··· ···”
But what came out of Delphoi’s mouth was far beyond my expectations. To shamelessly spout such words!
It seemed he was taking into account my lack of common sense, having lived in the wilderness.
As improvisations go, it wasn’t a bad choice. If I had truly been born and raised in the wild, I might have fallen for it.
“So, I’d appreciate it if you could leave. I’ll forgive the broken door.”
“I learned.”
“W-What?”
“I learned from Ellie. This is wrong.”
What a ridiculous thing to say. Conveniently, I had learned something from Ellie as well.
Leaving the dumbfounded Delphoi behind, I pointed at Grace and spoke.
“Grace is defenseless. You tried to assault her. This is wrong.”
“··· ···”
“Wrong things shouldn’t happen. So I’ll stop you.”
Ellie had told me. Never assault a defenseless woman.
Of course, there were exceptions. If she had a shy face and didn’t resist, it could be considered a sign of consent or something.
When I heard that, I thought, what an interesting education. I just nodded along, pretending to understand.
‘Ellie can testify for me later.’
Civilization is maintained through the powerful fence called ‘law.’ Without it, it’s no different from the wilderness.
However, there are times when fists are closer than the law. Especially in a world like this, fists can be more effective.
Having said all I needed to, I strode toward Delphoi. He backed away, his face filled with panic.
Then, glancing at the quietly lying Grace, he suddenly seemed to have a bright idea, smiling radiantly as he shouted.
“Y-Yeah! I’ll make you a great offer!”
“An offer?”
“Yes! An offer! It’d be a shame to enjoy this alone, so why don’t you join in? It’s not every day you get to claim such a beauty!”
“··· ···”
I was so dumbfounded I couldn’t even respond. Just how much of a beast did he think I was to say something like that?
I turned to see if anyone was coming. The entrance, wide open, showed no signs of anyone approaching.
It was Friday, and with the other classes taking exams, there were fewer people around. No one had come yet.
Even if someone did, Grace could serve as a witness, so it would be fine.
The reason I’m saying this is simple.
“I’m from the wilderness.”
“W-What are you suddenly talking about······?”
“Beast-like. That’s what they say.”
Living in the wilderness taught me many things. At the very least, even beasts protect their young and don’t recklessly assault females.
Well, sometimes those with abnormally high intelligence commit crimes similar to humans. Especially creatures like goblins.
But those acts are driven by ‘instinct,’ not clear intelligence. If they had true intelligence, everyone would know better.
“I’m not offended. It’s true. I’ve been scolded before. Told to live like a person.”
Using drugs to commit rape is a crime no human should ever commit.
Delphoi had crossed the final line of humanity.
“You’re worse than a brute.”
Rod kindly taught me. For those worse than beasts—
“You hit them.”
Violence is the remedy. I know because I’ve experienced it.
Before Delphoi could spout more nonsense, I charged at him.
As I rushed forward, he opened his mouth to cast a spell. Judging by his hand gestures, it was definitely magic.
“My body······! Ugh?!”
The alpha and omega of magic is language. I silenced his ‘words.’
Thanks to my large hands, I could grab Delphoi’s filthy lower jaw with one hand.
CRASH!
After grabbing his face, I threw him toward the desk. Being a mage with a weak body, that must have hurt quite a bit.
Next, before Delphoi could regain his senses, I looked around for something suitable.
Unfortunately, since this was a mage’s research lab, there wasn’t anything I could call a ‘rod.’
In the end, I had no choice but to educate him with my fists.
“Ugh······ You bastard······ Ugh?!”
I forcibly lifted the staggering Delphoi and slammed his face into the desk.
Given the difference in strength, there was nothing he could do. The next step was to deal with his filthy mouth.
‘They do this a lot in movies.’
There weren’t any rods, but there were plenty of pens. I grabbed a handful of pens from the container on the desk.
Then I forced Delphoi’s mouth open and shoved them all in. This should stop him from talking properly.
Of course, I wasn’t done yet. I raised my fist like a hammer and brought it down.
SMACK!
“Gah?!”
I hammered my fist into his cheek, where the pens were lodged.
If I hit in the direction of the pens, he might actually die. Beasts worse than animals deserve to die slowly.
‘Rod and Duke Berche’s household will handle the rest.’
My job was to ensure he could never live as a mage again. Starting with harvesting his ‘corn.’
CRACK! SMACK! THUD!
After repeatedly hammering my fist, the pens lodged in Delphoi’s mouth snapped in half.
With the impact combined with his hard teeth, their durability finally gave out.
Thinking this was enough, I pulled the broken pens out of Delphoi’s mouth.
“Guh······! Guh······!”
Along with the snapped pens, his teeth scattered everywhere.
His saliva mixed with blood, making me grimace. As expected, it was filthy—too filthy.
WHOOSH! THUD!
After removing the pens and ‘corn,’ I grabbed him by the neck and threw him against the wall. He flew like a piece of paper.
Delphoi slumped against the wall, too weak to resist anymore. But the lesson wasn’t over yet.
If this were done to another man, I’d be the worst kind of scum. But Delphoi wasn’t a man. He was a beast to be slaughtered.
I slowly walked toward him and spread his legs. Then I aimed precisely at his groin and prepared to stomp down.
“W-Wait······”
“··· ···”
“I-If you do this······ you’ll······”
Delphoi, unable to even speak properly, likely due to having all the ‘corn’ beaten out of him, lets blood and saliva drip from his mouth.
Still, seeing him rambling on in an attempt to find a way to survive, it seems he has some energy left.
I suppose I should at least hear out a death row inmate’s final testimony. I stopped mid-motion, my foot still raised.
“Do you······ know who I am?”
Delphoi slowly lifts his head and glares at me. His eyes are filled with venom, showing he still hasn’t come to his senses.
“Even if it’s you, you’ll, not, get away······”
I think I get the gist of what he’s saying. He probably means that I’ll face punishment for the violence I’ve committed.
As I mentioned earlier, civilization is surrounded by the strong fence of law. If the law collapses, civilization falls in an instant.
I’ve beaten Delphoi to a pulp, so I’ll likely face the hammer of justice. Violence is violence, no matter the era.
Even so, I wasn’t particularly worried. Without any backing, I just need to take responsibility alone.
A wildling with nothing. As long as I take responsibility myself, that’s enough.
Thus, I could reply confidently.
“Your mom.”
CRACK!
Delivering a bold insult, I stomped down on his groin. I felt something burst under my foot.
Whether it was the pillar being crushed or the eggs bursting, I don’t know. Either way, he won’t be able to use it for the rest of his life.
“Grrrk······”
Delphoi collapses, foaming at the mouth from the shock. Judging by his rolled-back eyes, the impact must have been significant.
In terms of damage, it’s as if his innards exploded. Still, he’s a tough bastard, so he won’t die.
I looked down at the unconscious Delphoi before turning around. Grace was still lying there, likely still under the drug’s influence.
“··· ···”
As I approached, Grace kept her eyes quietly closed. I wanted to wake her somehow, but I had no antidote.
If Ellie were here, she would have concocted some remedy. For now, all I could do was protect her.
“Hmm······”
Still, it kept bothering me. I scratched my head as I looked at Grace’s exposed upper body.
Her school uniform was intact, but the clothes underneath were torn in half. It seemed to have been ripped with something sharp.
Leaving her like this would be awkward for both of us. Instead of adjusting her uniform, I chose a different option.
Rustle-
I draped my school uniform over her. This way, she wouldn’t feel embarrassed.
At that, a small smile appeared at the corner of Grace’s lips. It seemed she had a rough idea of the situation.
“Grace?”
“Ugh······”
So she’s conscious. At my call, Grace responded faintly. Her awareness was intact.
If she had been humiliated while fully conscious but unable to resist······ it would have left a deep scar.
“It’s okay.”
The beast worse than a brute was dealt with. I knelt down and spoke to Grace.
Had I been even a little later, I might never have seen Grace again. I’m glad I trusted my instincts.
“The brute worse than a beast is gone. You’re safe now.”
“··· ···”
Grace let out a steady breath, seemingly reassured by my words. Perhaps she was trying to sleep since she couldn’t move.
That won’t do. To recover from paralysis faster, she needs to start moving her fingers.
It’s a trick I learned while surviving in the wilderness after being poisoned. I told Grace as much.
“Don’t sleep. Move your fingers.”
“Ah······”
“I’ll help you.”
She seemed to be struggling, so I decided to assist. I carefully took her hand resting on her stomach.
Then, I pressed gently, like a cat kneading, to help her regain sensation.
Starting from her fingertips, I worked my way through her entire body. This should help to some extent.
“Mmm······”
“?”
Did she just moan? I paused my massage and glanced at Grace.
She remained still, her eyes closed. I must have misheard.
Press- Knead-
I continued pressing her hand diligently until the paralysis subsided.
“Ha······ Ugh······”
“··· ···”
I decided to pretend I didn’t notice anything.
