Chapter 101
Even in a fantasy world, a student’s daily routine remains unchanged.
Even after the midterm exam ends, classes continue steadily, and the only option is to study hard until the next final exam.
The same goes for United Academy. After the midterm exam, there is only one day of rest, and classes proceed as usual.
At least, thanks to the week-long exam period, the afternoons are spent on autonomous training. Above all, the weekend begins the next day.
Time flies as I daydream about what to do over the weekend. If my prediction is correct, I’ll probably be learning various training techniques from Rize.
‘Luna will probably join too, right?’
Luna also trains with Rize every weekend. It’s a special training designed to rapidly enhance physical abilities.
Although she groans every time she undergoes that special training, the results are undeniable. After all, it’s Rize’s training.
Anyway, originally, I was supposed to train with Kara during the afternoon class.
“Ahem. Ahem. Mr. Sivar?”
“?”
“If it’s alright with you, could you come to my research lab for a moment this afternoon? I have something to discuss.”
That was until Godin came to find me after the morning classes had ended.
I looked at Godin curiously at his request. My expression silently questioned the reason.
Godin seemed to read the meaning behind my expression and gave a wry smile. It didn’t seem to be a particularly pleasant topic for discussion.
“As you know, Mr. Sivar, about that… incident you caused during the exam period?”
“Ah.”
I think I have a rough idea. He’s probably referring to the eccentric acts, including water torture.
This is an issue that would naturally come up for counseling, even if it weren’t me. The saying “trouble is brewing” exists for a reason.
Not addressing it here would look rather odd. So, I could understand the necessity.
“So, will Sivar be visiting the professor’s research lab alone?”
That was Luna’s question as we were heading out for training. I no longer needed a guardian and could go by myself.
Still, she seemed slightly uneasy, her expression betraying her lingering concern. To an outsider, I might look like a troublemaker.
‘Now that I think about it, that’s true.’
Just the incidents I caused during the midterm exam were enough to shock anyone.
To Luna and others, I probably seem like a ticking time bomb that could go off at any moment.
But back then, I had no choice. With the attack rights restricted, I couldn’t do much, but I did my best.
“Yes. Since it’s a sensitive and personal matter, it’s better for Mr. Sivar to come alone. Besides, you’re officially enrolled now, so you don’t need a guardian anymore, right?”
“Hmm…”
“I’ll report to the Headmaster myself.”
“Ugh. Then I have to train with someone boring this afternoon.”
Once my counseling session was confirmed, Kara grumbled. By “someone boring,” she must mean Luna.
Luna, realizing Kara’s indirect jab at her, shot a sharp glance in her direction.
In response, Kara feigned ignorance and maintained her brazen attitude. She seemed more relaxed than before.
“Haha. Then come to my research lab after lunch. It won’t be a long conversation, so don’t worry too much.”
“Okay. I mean, yes.”
I accidentally slipped into casual speech but quickly corrected myself with formal language.
Godin seemed inexplicably pleased by my use of formal speech, smiling warmly.
Despite his suspicious appearance, he was incredibly kind. I might use this counseling session as an opportunity to ask him about a few spells.
Although I still stuttered a bit, I could speak the language, so magic should also be possible. Even if it’s just basic spells, it’s a start.
“Sivar, take this.”
“Huh?”
It was around the time I finished lunch and was heading to Godin’s research lab. Kara called out to me and held out her hand.
I looked at her outstretched palm. On it were a few pieces of candy.
“Eat these on your way. When you get to the research lab, give some to the professor too. But don’t eat them during the counseling session. That would be rude. Got it?”
“Yeah. Thanks.”
“Alright. See you later.”
With the candy Kara gave me, I headed toward Godin’s research lab located in the main building.
On the way to the lab, I popped a piece of candy into my mouth. It wasn’t the Nurungji-flavored candy that Rod liked but strawberry-flavored.
‘Does Kara like strawberry flavor? I’m not sure.’
After entering the main building, I moved according to my memory. I might get lost briefly, but it shouldn’t take long.
Occasionally, professors or staff who recognized me passed by, but they just walked on. They probably had no intention of getting closer, only mild interest.
When I finally reached the floor where Godin’s research lab was located, I encountered an unexpected face.
“Huh? Mr. Sivar?”
“?”
A familiar female voice caught my ear. I turned my head in the direction of the voice.
Turning my head, I saw Grace, a woman with a sharp impression, looking at me with surprised eyes.
“What brings you here, Mr. Sivar? Did the professor call for you?”
Grace approached me and asked. Come to think of it, she had left immediately after the morning classes ended.
So, she wouldn’t know that I had been summoned by Godin for counseling. I told her the truth.
“Professor Godin.”
“Professor Godin?”
“Called me. For counseling.”
“Professor Godin called you for counseling?”
She seemed to understand, though her expression showed she still didn’t know the reason for the counseling.
“Midterm exam.”
“Midterm exa… Ah.”
When I mentioned the midterm exam, she seemed to grasp the situation. She might not have witnessed my eccentric acts firsthand, but she must have heard about them.
There are still students complaining about the aftereffects of my water torture. Moreover, Grace was right next to me when I made the bomb vest.
“I see. I understand the situation now.”
“What about you, Grace?”
“Me? I have a counseling session scheduled with Professor Delphoi today.”
“Delphoi?”
I frowned. A sense of unease began to creep in.
Normally, Delphoi’s incidents occur much later than now—roughly between the midterm and final exams.
But perhaps because of my warning, Grace was supposed to learn under Godin instead of Delphoi.
“Yes. After today’s counseling, I’ll be working as Professor Godin’s teaching assistant.”
“Really?”
“Do you have something to say? Your expression seems a bit stiff.”
I touched my face. Thinking about what Delphoi might do to Grace, I must have unconsciously furrowed my brows.
Since I usually kept a neutral expression, Grace seemed to have noticed.
“Be careful.”
“What?”
“Be careful. I have a bad feeling.”
The best way to bring Delphoi down is to catch him in the act. He’s so cunning that he rarely leaves evidence behind.
Even in the Soul World, it was only because Godin discovered his criminal activities that he could be arrested. But even that was no easy task.
Grace, as a victim, was silenced by pressure from her household, and other students faced similar situations.
Although the timing wasn’t ideal, I could at least give her a warning. If necessary, I could visit her later.
Grace stared at me for a moment after hearing my warning, then looked around. Seeing no one else, she leaned in close and whispered.
“…Mr. Sivar.”
“Yeah.”
“From what I’ve heard, the professor who restricted attack rights was Professor Delphoi.”
It was that bastard. Well, considering he was skilled in political intrigue, it wasn’t entirely unexpected.
I just hadn’t connected the dots because all the attention was drawn to that absurd restriction.
“So, Mr. Sivar, I recommend avoiding any involvement with Professor Delphoi if possible. From what I’ve observed while being around him, he doesn’t seem like a good person.”
“Got it.”
“Alright then, I’ll be on my way.”
“Wait.”
“Yes?”
Before she left, I called out to her. Then, I rummaged through my pocket and handed her some candy.
“The candy Kara gave me still has plenty left. Plus, the uneaten ones are always kept in my pocket.”
“You could think of it as similar to how Porori stores acorns in his cheek pouch. The difference is, he has acorns, and I have candy.”
“Here.”
“This is candy?”
“Yeah.”
“I handed Grace a grape-flavored candy that matched her hair color. The color suited her perfectly.”
“When she blinked and alternated her gaze between the candy and me, I quietly added,”
“Eat it when you’re feeling down.”
“······Pfft.”
“Grace let out a soft laugh at my words and accepted the candy. When she smiled, her sharp features softened, highlighting her beauty.”
“Afterward, she tucked the candy into her pocket, smiled gently, and expressed her gratitude.”
“Thank you. It’s tough right now, but I’ll make sure to eat it later.”
“Yeah.”
“Should I buy you a cake as thanks?”
“Really?”
“If you’re willing, I’d be grateful. Candy for cake—what a miraculous exchange.”
“Grace nodded at my question for confirmation.”
“Of course. Didn’t I say before that I’d buy you cake whenever you wanted, Mr. Sivar?”
“Are you sure? Really?”
“It’s fine. You might not know this, but the Duke Berche’s Household is incredibly wealthy.”
“It felt like she was trying to meet me at my level in this conversation. It wasn’t condescension, but rather consideration.”
“From this, it was clear that Grace had a kind heart. Her sharp demeanor was simply a result of the harsh education from her household.”
“Beyond that, her small, lingering innocence and the occasional glimpses of her true personality revealed her charm.”
“Thanks.”
“No need to thank me. I’ve received a lot of help from you, Mr. Sivar. See you in a bit.”
“Grace waved her hand as she left after expressing her gratitude. I also waved back at her.”
“I watched her retreating figure grow smaller before moving my feet. The foreboding from earlier grew even stronger the moment I started walking.”
“‘Are they really going to act today?'”
“Suppressing the sense of foreboding, I arrived at Godin’s research lab. His lab always reeked of book smell.”
“Ah, you’re here. Could you sit here for a moment?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you like coffee, Mr. Sivar?”
“I haven’t had it.”
“Come to think of it, I’ve never had coffee before. Even at cafes, I only drank sweet beverages, never coffee.”
“I should take this opportunity to try it. I stared at the coffee Godin prepared for me and slowly took a sip.”
“How is it?”
“It’s bitter and sweet. No, sweet and bitter?”
“That’s how coffee is. There’s even a saying that you drink coffee with your nose, not your tongue.”
“Really?”
“······Not literally. It means you enjoy its aroma.”
“Perhaps sensing my unease, Godin hurriedly explained in detail. He must’ve thought I’d actually try drinking it through my nose.”
“Even I wouldn’t subject myself to self-inflicted torture. Just the thought of water entering my nose is painful enough.”
“Though, I did make others feel that pain. Thinking back, it’s enough to warrant counseling.”
“‘Grace······'”
“Even while talking with Godin, I couldn’t shake off the foreboding about Grace. Delphoi is Delphoi, regardless of the timing.”
“Especially since, if that incident occurs, I’ll never see Grace again.”
“As I mentioned before, her household treats her as if she’s been discarded.”
“Tremble, tremble—”
“Unable to hide my foreboding, my legs started trembling on their own. Godin’s words didn’t even register in my ears.”
“Could this be due to some wild instinct? Or is it just my personal intuition?”
“Whatever the case, I think I need to visit Delphoi’s research lab.”
“Godin.”
“Yes, what is it?”
“I need the restroom.”
“Go ahead. I’ll wait here.”
“Using the restroom as an excuse, I managed to leave Godin’s research lab. I then headed straight for Delphoi’s research lab.”
“I didn’t know exactly where Delphoi’s lab was, but I could easily find it by recalling the direction Grace had gone.”
“‘Found it.'”
“Before long, I arrived at Delphoi’s research lab. It was quite far from Godin’s lab.”
“If I barged in and broke the door down, the timing might be off. Besides, there’s no rule saying it has to happen today.”
“Knock, knock, knock—”
“So, I knocked lightly. As I did, I sensed a presence behind the door.”
“Click!”
“Then came the sound of a lock being opened. Normally, the door would just open—why was it locked in the first place?”
“While I was pondering that, the door creaked open slowly with a groaning sound.”
“However, the door didn’t open all the way. It wasn’t even halfway open—just barely ajar.”
“‘······Who are you?'”
“Through the narrow gap, I saw a familiar face. A man with strikingly mismatched short hair.”
“The moment I faced Delphoi, I craned my neck to see behind him. Unfortunately, Delphoi was tall enough to block my view.”
“‘Grace?'”
“‘Grace?'”
“‘Yeah. Is she here?'”
“At my question, Delphoi glanced briefly behind him.”
“‘She’s not here. Why?'”
“And then, shamelessly, he lied.”
“You’re done for now.”
