Chapter 5
Mae’s pov
I am currently in a state of great confusion.
And the cause of this confusion lies before me—Jin-sama, who is sleeping restlessly.
My apologies for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Mea.
I am an Elf, well-known for my aversion to humans. Despite that, I am serving as a maid to Jin-sama, who is, in fact, a human.
As for the reasons behind this choice, they are a secret.
But these details are of little importance right now.
Jin-sama has awakened.
His awakening is unmistakable, simply by observing his restless state.
This all started yesterday.
Yesterday was one of those rare days when there was no special training, and I was insisting that Jin-sama take a nap to rest and recover.
After all, despite being just five years old, he wields a sword from morning till night.
Unfortunately, Jin-sama possesses practically zero talent when it comes to swordsmanship.
His lack of talent is so extreme that I’ve even questioned whether he truly inherits the bloodline of the illustrious Divine Sword family.
His utter lack of aptitude led to a time when even his mother, the Duchess, was suspected of infidelity. But the results confirmed that his lineage was undoubtedly legitimate.
Yet, despite having done no wrong, the Duchess, who was suspected, was infuriated. She blamed Jin-sama’s lack of sword talent, which was the cause of the suspicion. She verbally abused him, a child not even four years old, and even attempted to physically harm him.
Of course, I intervened on the spot.
Due to my special status within this household, I hold the same authority as the head of the family. Thus, I could prevent the Duchess from doing anything.
However, this incident led to me being the sole ally of Jin-sama.
From that moment on, Jin-sama changed.
He was constantly hostile to anyone other than me. Insulting the butlers became routine. Although he never insulted or mistreated me, there was a clear undertone of animosity.
But then, yesterday.
Out of nowhere, Jin-sama suddenly shouted loudly in his room.
I rushed to his room, fearing something was amiss. There, I found Jin-sama engaging in a peculiar behavior, repeatedly touching his own face and body.
It was honestly quite unsettling, but my concern outweighed any discomfort.
Furthermore, during tea time later, he asked about his own age, reputation, and the common knowledge of this world.
At that moment, the hostility in Jin-sama’s eyes seemed to have vanished completely, replaced by a strangely favorable emotion toward me.
However, Jin-sama’s transformation didn’t end there.
Jin-sama, who had always been focused solely on swordsmanship, unexpectedly declared that he was giving up the sword and wanted to try practicing magic.
Even I, who pride myself on my poker face, couldn’t help but show my surprise.
And right alongside that statement, a source of my current bewilderment emerged.
At first, I thought he wouldn’t be able to sense magic at all, so we decided to practice in the courtyard.
I had intended to teach him to a certain extent, as I have some magical ability myself. However, Jin-sama already possessed knowledge about magic, even though I had never seen him study magic before.
From that point on, everything was a series of astonishments.
When he suddenly asked me to flow magic through him, I obliged for a short while. To my surprise, he immediately sensed my magic. What’s more, he even started sensing his own mana.
Usually, even a talented child takes about a week to sense their own mana.
And then it takes around three weeks to manipulate that energy to some extent, and about a month to cast magic spells. But Jin-sama managed to do all of that within a matter of minutes.
Even more astounding was the power of the magic he wielded.
Despite being his first time, his magic was on par with that of a skilled magician.
But what shocked me most was the total amount of mana he possessed.
For his first time, he seemed to have miscalculated the amount of magic needed for his spells. He loaded his spells with an excessive amount of mana.
It was roughly about ten times more than normal?
And yet, despite expending such a vast amount of mana, his reserves hardly diminished.
Ordinary children would have exhausted their mana after casting spells so recklessly, many times over.
However, Jin-sama continued to unleash spells with random levels of mana.
It was at this point that I truly realized.
It appears that Jin-sama possesses a talent that even I, once called a prodigy among the magic-proficient Elves, cannot fathom.
He’s destined to become immensely powerful, surpassing all other mages.
However, Jin-sama is still just a child, not even at the cusp of adolescence.
There’s a chance that his magical power might spiral out of control or that he could become a target for assassination.
So, I’ve decided to continue protecting him as I always have.
As the only maid who stays by Jin-sama’s side more closely than anyone else.
