Chapter 35: Strangled Shadows (23)
An air of seriousness and focus settled in the air as the daughters of Ki song gathered in a ball room, listening to quiet music and awaiting their guest. They were all entirely suited in multiple different variations of dresses however though they were dressed in such a formal manner, it would only take a matter of moments for them to return to their battle attire.
Although all were supposed to be present, the two major figures who the daughters attentively awaited remained yet to be seen.
Revel had informed them that she had entered a relationship with a man too strong to be a saint and spoken no further of the issue, promising to illuminate it all during the ball.
And here they were, sitting silently with only the low sound of silent music radiating the air. Silent Stalker moved to begin complaining however the room suddenly became colder, the light from the chandeliers became suppressed as a figure moved into the room.
Revel walked into the room slowly, allowing each of her steps to pierce through the silent ball with her companion in tow. He was quite short with pitch black hair; his onyx eyes had a glint of mischief within them as he donned a suit which he appeared to be finding quite uncomfortable.
This instance alone proved it all, Orion hated suits. They were tight and restrained his movements, he felt any expression of his physical force would rip through his clothes entirely leaving him naked for all to see. Orion had been reminded quite frequently that he had to take the situation seriously, he needed to make a great impression on those who his...lover valued.
Letting a smile settle on his face, Orion continued to match Revel's space with her arm intertwined with his. This motion they had done had been practiced continuously in her room until he had done it to a fault, she had forced him to perfect it like a slave owner.
Gazing upon Ki Song, he restrained a smile as he gazed upon her soul core. It was huge, only being rivalled by the bearded man he had encountered in the sword domain. He couldn't quite put a finger on the type of abilities she would be able to use via the aura emanated from her soul, however, he could tell a fight with her would not be disappointing.
Revel bowed her head, lightly nudging him to bow his head once more. "Good afternoon mother, I apologise for my tardiness" Revel said politely, Orion struggled to bow. It made him feel weak, why would he bow to one obviously weaker than himself?
However, his pride was not something he valued higher than the needs of the person he had decided to make his companion and so he obliged without so much as a complaint. Orion stared at Ki Song for quite a bit more, her dress seemed quite a bit more regal than the rest of them for some odd reason 'It must be an indicator of higher importance' he thought to himself.
He was ripped from his thoughts as Ki Song's voice reverberated through the room. Her voice carried an air of authority that made the rest of the Saints turn their heads towards her and pay unbridled attention to her words "And who might you be?"
She was speaking to him, Orion continued to lock eyes with her before making releasing his arm from Revel's and making his way forward.
"My name is Orion; I take it you are Revel's mother?" he continued to speak however he didn't break his stride, several of the Saints positioned themselves between he and Ki Song however he simply phased through them.
In a split second, he was before Ki song. Standing only three feet away from her, he allowed a smile to emerge on his face "How was Revel like when she was a child? Was she noisy? I doubt it, she seems quite wise and very thoughtful!" his barrage of questions seemed to take even the queen of worms aback slightly.
Her eyes widened at the display of informality however she kept her composure "I am not her biological mother, however she was quite a polite child" her lips curled into a slight smile at the display. She was too used to people, even those who she considered to be family being formal with her. It was quite a pleasant surprise.
Suddenly, she found herself being firmly held in the arms of Orion. She could sense that he had no intent to harm her however and raised her hand, signalling that all her daughters should not attempt to attack him. "Thank you" he mumbled under his breathe before moving away "Thank you for taking care of Revel" elaborated.
In a second, he was already next to Revel once more. She had been massaging her temple at his display and stared at him with an exasperated expression "You know you aren't allowed to do that right? It doesn't matter now though it seems she likes you" a smile was plastered on her face as she finished the sentence. If mother liked him, then his position in the family could not be challenged by anyone.
Moonveil spoke first, "How strong are you? I'm not having my sister hang around a weak man" although she had an inkling of how strong he was seeing as he defeated a great terror in one blow. The full depths of his strength remained a mystery to her, although unlikely her questioning may reveal some things.
Orion gave a slight nod at Ki Song before saying in a hushed tone "I'm stronger than your mother" he didn't say any more before he pulled Moonveil into a hug as well. His arms were gentle yet strong as all intentions to resist were wrung out of her body by his embrace "Thank you for caring for Revel" his tone was quiet yet genuine, she could tell he cared about her to extents which she herself could not tell.
After a while, Orion had calmed down, no longer engaging in pleasantries with every human he saw in the room instead he chose to sit in a secluded corner of the ball to continue speaking to Revel. Smiles shot across his face and on certain occasions he found himself laughing at jokes she said.
He felt...joy.
Quickly though, Ki Song's voice pierced the room once more "Orion, I hear that you are to be fighting seven Saints from the Sword domain. By yourself no less, am I to expect an early death from the man my daughter has chosen to claim as her husband?"
In response, a hearty laugh ripped through the ballroom which quickly became chillingly cold.
"I've already fought Changing Star as well as the other shadow user in their faux cohort. They couldn't even land a blow. I'll say this since you plan on going to war with the sword domain."
He paused for a second, getting up and making his way to the centre of the ballroom. Orions eyes remained locked with Ki song's as he decided to stop restraining his presence. In a split second, the Saints in his immediate vicinity were thrown back slightly as the ground beneath him cracked.
"The sword domain possesses quite an array of impressive fighters including who you people call Anvil. But I'm stronger than all of them, if I side with you. Who would even dare to attempt to defeat me" he allowed his words to hang in the air for a second before continuing "I will be fighting all the Saints from Sword alone. Nobody is to interfere; they are attempting to rob me, and I will not stand for it."
The Saints of Song stared wide eyed at the man before them, the presence of his soul was no less immense than that of a Sovereign however the quality of it was that of a Saint. What type of man could bridge the gap of an entire soul evolution through pure strength alone.
Ki Song stared at the man for a split second, analysing him based off the display he had just shown. According to her sources this man had been able to block a blow from Anvil with one arm, although initially she found the idea dubious all doubts had been erased from her mind. And so, seeing there was nothing she could say to dissuade him from his planned massacre of enemy forces she said...
"As you wish, lord of shadows. Fight and win."
