A letter to the post man

Chapter 12: All mine

Nath stepped closer to me on the mountain, his eyes never leaving mine. He gently placed his hand on my waist and pulled me toward him. His lips met mine in a tender kiss, one that felt like it would last forever. The cold winds that swept across the mountain had chilled his lips, but the warmth of the moment melted away the chill. I didn't want the kiss to end—it felt perfect, as though it was meant to be.

When he finally released me from his embrace, I couldn't help but smile at him. I wanted to hold on to this moment, to keep his thoughts away from Cathrine or the northern lands. Right now, he was mine, and I intended to keep it that way.

Determined to keep his attention, I brought up a new topic, something to prolong our time together. We sat on the peak of the mountain, the breathtaking view stretching out before us, but my focus was solely on Nath. My head rested on his lap as we spoke, the closeness between us growing more intimate with every passing second.

"Nath, how about a song?" I suggested, looking up at him hopefully.

"Oh, Reina, music isn't really my thing," he replied with a small chuckle, his voice carrying that endearing roughness I loved.

I lifted my head from his lap, gazing at him intently. Without hesitation, I leaned in and placed a soft kiss on his lips. His smile broke through, warm and teasing, and my heart skipped a beat.

"You're trying to seduce me," he said mockingly, but there was a spark in his eyes that said I'd succeeded.

"But you win, Pearl," he added.

"Pearl?" I asked, tilting my head in curiosity.

"Yeah," he said, his expression softening. "You remind me of pearls—your snow-white skin, your beauty, and how precious you are. Pearls are kept safe in their shells, and I'll keep you safe, just like that."

I laughed, unable to help myself. "You do realize the shell gets destroyed in order to retrieve the pearl, right?"

"Yes," he said, his voice calm and steady. He looked at me deeply, and his next words sent a shiver down my spine. "And I don't mind getting destroyed in the process."

His words hung in the air, heavy with meaning, and I studied his face, searching for the truth in them. Did Nath truly love me? Would he go to such lengths for me? The questions lingered in my mind, but I pushed them aside for now.

Resting my head on his lap again, I let the stillness of the moment wrap around us. His voice broke the silence, low and rich, as he began to sing a song I'd never heard him sing before.

"I wanna take you somewhere so you know I care

But it's so cold and I don't know where

I brought you daffodils on a pretty string

But they won't flower like they did last spring.

And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright

I'm just so tired to share my nights

I wanna cry and I wanna love

But all my tears have been used up

On another love…"

His voice pierced through my heart, the lyrics cutting deeper than I could have imagined. Every word felt like a dagger, and though his eyes were on me, I couldn't shake the image of Cathrine from my mind. Her presence loomed over us like a shadow, and guilt began to creep in.

But love, they say, is stronger than anything else. Stronger than the bond I had with Cathrine. And as I looked at Nath, I knew my love for him mattered more than the guilt that threatened to overwhelm me.

When he finished the song, the melancholy in his voice lingered, and I broke the silence. "It's getting late," I said softly. "We should head back."

Without a word, Nath bent down and scooped me up into his arms, carrying me princess-style as though I weighed nothing. His strength was effortless, his grip secure, and I felt safe, cherished. He descended the mountain carefully, his focus unwavering, and I couldn't help but marvel at him.

When we reached the bottom, he placed me gently in the car, his touch lingering for a moment longer. He drove me home in comfortable silence, the air between us charged with unspoken words.

As we arrived, he leaned in and kissed me one last time—a kiss filled with promises, with longing, with love. My heart soared, and I knew I never wanted this feeling to end
