Chapter 14: Chaotic Universe
Five hundred years into the future, Earth no longer boasts the beautiful blue and green hues of the present. Instead, it is slowly turning into a grayish-brown wasteland.
Kelly and Karen explained: "This must be the period when the robots used radiation beams to eliminate all living creatures on Earth. The vitality of cells is destroyed by these rays, and humans are not the only living beings affected."
Nobita tilted his head in confusion. "Robots want to replace humans and dominate the Earth—so why would they destroy everything so blatantly? If they succeed, not only will humanity perish, but those radiation beams will annihilate everything else on Earth too. Even trees won't survive. In the end, the Earth will just be dead land with a bunch of robots. What will they rule over?"
The image on the Time Televison continued. By now, nearly the entire Earth had turned grayish-brown. Suddenly, a bright flash appeared on the planet's surface, followed by a massive mushroom-shaped cloud. Soon after, other bright points began erupting all over Earth.
"This is the moment when humans fought back desperately against the robots, activating all the nuclear arsenals on Earth," Kelly said with a sigh, her voice tinged with emotion.
The Earth on the screen began to tremble violently as countless nuclear explosions unfolded. Then, with a sudden "pop," the Earth vanished entirely from the screen.
Karen's mouth hung open in shock: "Huh? What just happened? The Earth didn't explode, so why did it suddenly disappear!?"
Doraemon rewound the footage slightly, observing it carefully before replying, "The intensity of the explosions caused Earth to veer off its orbit and hurtle in a different direction!"
"Hurry, track where Earth ended up!" Kelly urged Doraemon.
Doraemon reached out to adjust the Time Televison but froze mid-motion, his eyes widening as he stared at the screen. The others followed his gaze, stunned into silence. On the screen, a red planet was now rapidly passing through the area where Earth had once been.
"Mars?!" they all exclaimed in unison.
"Why is Mars off its orbit too?" Nobita asked, bewildered.
Doraemon didn't answer. Instead, he zoomed the screen further out. The solar system was now in complete chaos. Celestial bodies and planets were colliding violently, producing brilliant supernova-like explosions. Other planets were spinning out of their orbits, darting in every direction at increasingly rapid speeds. Zooming out even more, the entire universe exhibited similar chaotic behavior. It wasn't just the solar system—the whole cosmos was descending into disorder.
The current situation resembled a game of Jenga: once a critical block was removed, the entire structure collapsed. In this scenario, Earth was that vital block. Its departure from its orbit disrupted the balance of the solar system, leading to its destruction. This imbalance then triggered a chain reaction, gradually unraveling the delicate equilibrium that had taken trillions of years to build, resulting in the universe's disarray.
Planets across the universe were drifting out of their original orbits. Some moved alone, while others with stronger gravitational forces pulled clusters of planets along, forming new orbits and new star systems in entirely different regions.
The four of them pressed their faces close to the screen, watching in unblinking awe. The sight was overwhelming: the collapse of the universe's balance was unfolding right before their eyes, all because a small planet like Earth had been knocked out of orbit.
Kelly was the first to react. She stepped back, exhaled deeply, and said, "Luckily, we're moving to another universe. Let's just head back to 500 years ago quickly."
Doraemon suddenly turned around, his expression grave: "The plan has changed! The Earth cannot be destroyed! Its destruction has thrown this universe into chaos, and all our experiments are ruined!"
Hearing this, all three of them frowned: "Experiments?"
Doraemon waved his hand dismissively. "You don't need to know the details right now. What matters is that we must focus on saving Earth! We absolutely cannot let this universe collapse!"
The group fell silent, watching Doraemon. He turned to the time machine, pulling a fabric with a clock symbol from his pocket and draping it over the machine. Nobita recognized it immediately—it was the Time Cloth, capable of reversing or accelerating the age of anything it covered.
In seconds, the time machine was restored to its original state. Doraemon retrieved the Time Cloth, sat in the pilot's seat, and opened the entrance to the time tunnel. "Let's go!" he urged.
But the three remained frozen in place, staring at Doraemon. Finally, Kelly stepped forward, hands on her hips, and said: "Doraemon, what are you hiding? Why did you suddenly change your mind about saving the Earth? What are these experiments you mentioned? I didn't dare to ask before, but now… the Earth—no, this entire universe—is obviously very important to the Përjetësia, isn't it? If that's the case, we're on the same side. This young lady thinks we should unite and stop keeping secrets!" Kelly looked impressively heroic, but her change in self address showed she was not as calm as she appeared. Nobita and Karen even noticed her hands trembling.
Doraemon temporarily closed the time tunnel entrance, then turned around and said slowly, "The experiments of the Përjetësia span the universe, involving planets, life, and the laws of physics. Due to their complexity, they're nearly impossible to replicate in another universe. The Earth's destruction has disrupted this universe, ruining all of our experiments. That's why we need to save the Earth."
Kelly nodded, then asked, "Alright, let's accept that for now. But here's another question: why were you observing Earth in the first place? Clearly, the people of Përjetësia didn't know Earth was a crucial piece in maintaining this universe's balance. So why monitor Earth? And why did you personally come here?"
This time, Doraemon's expression darkened, and he remained silent. The atmosphere grew tense.
Nobita hesitated before stepping forward and grasping Doraemon's hand. "Doraemon, you've always been the one I trust most. If there's something troubling you, please tell us. I'll always stand by your side!"
"Nobita…" Doraemon's voice trembled, his eyes growing moist, just as they had the previous day when he had looked at Nobita the same way.
"Alright…" Doraemon squeezed Nobita's hand tightly, then released it. Taking a deep breath, he spoke in a low voice: "I, Doraemon, am an envoy from the Përjetësia. And my mission… is to annihilate all humans on Earth!"
Kelly froze, her hands falling to her sides. She raised one hand to point at Doraemon, her mouth opening and closing as if to speak, but no words came out. Karen covered her mouth with both hands, retreating several steps, her eyes filled with terror. Nobita, tears streaming down his face, choked out a single word: "Why?"
