Chapter 3: THE SILENT TRUTH
After the nurse left, Evan tried to gather his thoughts. He needed to see his own body and understand what had happened. But first, he needed to find a way to leave the room without arousing suspicion.
Just then, Adison entered, looking relieved to see him awake. "Good morning, Sara. I brought you some flowers."
Evan felt a pang of discomfort but accepted the flowers with a nod. "Thank you, Adison."
Adison smiled and leaned in closer, his eyes softening. "I was so worried about you." He moved to kiss Evan, but Evan's instincts took over. Shocked and feeling a surge of panic, he slapped Adison across the face.
Adison stepped back, stunned. "Sara, what... what's wrong?"
Evan's heart raced. "I'm sorry, I just... I need some space. Please."
Adison looked hurt but nodded. "Okay, I'll give you some time. Just know that I'm here for you."
As Adison left the room, Evan felt a mix of guilt and relief. He knew he had to keep his distance while searching for answers. This body, this life—it wasn't his, and he couldn't pretend otherwise.
Later that afternoon, the door to Sara's room opened, and three familiar faces walked in—his brother Jaxon, his mother Emily, and his father, Mr. McMullen. Evan's heart ached at the sight of his family, but he had to keep his composure.
"Sara, how are you feeling?" Emily asked gently, her eyes filled with concern.
Evan took a deep breath, fighting back the urge to spill everything. "I'm... managing. It's all a bit overwhelming."
Mr. McMullen nodded. "We heard you were part of the accident. We're just glad you're okay. Do you remember anything about what happened?"
Before Evan could respond, a nurse entered the room. "I'm sorry, but we need to take Sara for some tests. It's important for her recovery."
Evan shot the nurse a grateful look as she gently but firmly escorted him out of the room. He knew he couldn't reveal the truth to his family—not yet.
That night, Evan lay in his hospital bed, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. He couldn't stop thinking about Yoona. Was she worried about him? Was she crying, or did she even know what had happened? He remembered the ring he had bought, the proposal he had planned. He had wanted to marry her, to spend his life with her. But now, everything had changed. The weight of the situation pressed down on him, filling him with sadness and uncertainty.
Suddenly, there was a commotion in the hallway. He recognized the voices of his family members and the stern tones of the police.
A police officer and his family entered the ICU where his body, inhabited by Sara, lay. "We need to ask a few questions about the accident," the officer said.
Evan, as Sara, stayed silent, knowing that no one would believe the truth. "I... don't remember anything," he finally said, trying to sound convincing.
The officer nodded, taking notes. "It's common after a traumatic event. We'll follow up when you're feeling better."
After everyone left, Evan's brother Jaxon lingered in the room, looking torn. Evan tried to find the words to speak to his brother, but his emotions got the best of him. Jaxon turned to leave, but a few moments later, he returned, having forgotten his phone.
Evan took a deep breath, trying to muster the courage to talk to Jaxon. "Jaxon, wait..."
Jaxon looked back, surprised. "Yes?"
Evan's voice trembled. "I... I need to talk to you. There's something important you need to know."
