Chapter 233: Chapter 233: Lacus Wants to Know
That evening, instead of returning to his frame research, He Kui enjoyed dinner with the two girls before heading to bed together.
"The sour fish stew was delicious," He Kui complimented.
"Of course!" Su Lei lifted her head proudly at the praise.
"Well then, as a reward, how about trying something new?" He Kui suggested with a mischievous smile.
Hearing his suggestion, both Su Lei and Shi He blushed and shot him a playful glare—a mix of innocence and allure that only added to the charm.
"You just want to have fun yourself!" Su Lei retorted, her cheeks red. Having already adjusted to the idea of the three of them being together, she couldn't help but feel both shy and curious about what He Kui might be proposing.
"Don't worry; hear me out first," He Kui whispered in their ears.
"No way! That's too embarrassing! Right, Shi He?" Su Lei looked to Shi He for support, but only found her friend's cheeks flushed as she shyly nodded.
"Trying it once… might be okay," Shi He murmured, her voice barely audible.
Feeling like she'd fallen into their trap, Su Lei found herself gently pressed down by Shi He as He Kui joined in. Together, the two guided her into a night of shared tenderness and warmth.
The next morning, He Kui awoke, greeted by the familiar virtual display before him.
Su Lei Affection Level: 169
Shi He Affection Level: 183
You and the two shared five more intimate moments; Z Gundam +300
Shared Affection Bonus: +3
Z Gundam Progress: (2100/50,000)
Research Progress: Cellular Repair Nanobots (5,423/50,000)
Quantum Firewall Research Progress: (16,310/20,000)
Force Field Modulation Research Progress: (3,502/20,000)
The shared affection bonus had somehow increased, likely due to the bond between Su Lei and Shi He growing stronger with each day they spent together. Feeling energized, He Kui resolved to spend more quality time with them.
Standing up, he mentally reminded himself to start on the new frame for the Gundam. Although the Alliance's destruction of Joshua Base was a victory, the Atlantic Federation wouldn't back down so easily. The battles for Panama, Orb, and other locations were still ahead.
After unlocking the asteroid's security for some peace, He Kui decided to stay rather than return to May City. This place, along with the companionship of Shi He and Su Lei, felt like home.
Two days later, he received a report from Andrew summarizing recent frontline updates. It covered their retreat from Alaska to Carpentaria and noted that, due to overcrowding, some troops were redirected to Gibraltar. ZAFT and the Eurasian Federation were pressuring the Atlantic Federation with evidence of the Cyclops system in hopes of a diplomatic response. However, the Atlantic Federation stubbornly denied any wrongdoing.
In response, the East Asia bloc stayed neutral, though subtly leaning towards supporting Eurasia in balancing the Atlantic Federation's influence. Although the PLANT threat remained, these shifts kept the various factions from fully engaging in conflict.
"Next is Panama," He Kui thought. "South America was once aligned with PLANT, but the Atlantic Federation absorbed them." Still, the war's trajectory was now beyond his control.
Finishing the report, he looked up at Lacus, who was waiting patiently in her garden. Today, he had accepted an invitation to visit her.
"Lacus, thank you for the intelligence," he said.
"No thanks needed, but, He Kui, I believe you know why I invited you here, right?" Lacus smiled sweetly, but her gaze held a hint of curiosity.
He Kui gave a nod. "I think I understand."
"Then I'll get straight to the point. The girl piloting the unknown transforming Gundam and claiming to represent the 'Pallas' organization—is she your friend?" Lacus's voice remained gentle, yet her probing tone conveyed her desire for a truthful answer.
He Kui remained calm. "She's more of an acquaintance," he said softly. "With my status, it's not uncommon for people to seek connections."
"So, this organization recruited you?" Lacus asked, stepping closer, her eyes intently fixed on him as her soft fragrance filled the air. It took every ounce of He Kui's willpower to keep his composure.
"Sort of," he replied, remaining stoic despite Lacus's captivating presence. He quietly let his mind wander to distracting thoughts to counter her penetrating gaze.
"Did you accept?"
"No," he said firmly. "I'm not one of them." And indeed, he wasn't. The "organization" he'd invented was nothing more than a decoy.
Lacus studied him for a moment, before slowly returning to her seat. "How much do you know about them?"
"Not much. Some of what happened on Earth might have been their doing."
"Did they contact you?"
"No," he replied, shaking his head.
"Then, how did the girl survive?"
From witness reports, images, and her own observations, Lacus was certain the same girl had appeared multiple times.
"I wish I knew."
"And the Julius 7 incident?"
"They were the ones who informed me."
"Why reach out to you? And why didn't you tell me sooner?" Lacus pressed.
"Maybe they valued my abilities?" He Kui answered, still calm but feeling the pressure. "Or perhaps they thought the Earth Alliance's attacks threatened the world."
Lacus's eyes lingered on him, clearly unconvinced. She was not one to blindly accept someone's story, even if He Kui's explanations seemed logical. And his gaze… she noticed his gaze drifting over her in a way that made her want to send him away.
"Would you like to stay for dinner, then?" Lacus offered, though slightly reluctant, feeling a need to keep observing him despite her discomfort.
"Of course," He Kui replied, realizing he couldn't refuse her invitation without seeming suspicious.
