Vengeance So Sweet

Chapter 7: Awake

Cynthia's Point of View

I woke to the sound of beeping machines and a faint smell of antiseptic. I tried to sit up on the bed, but my whole body felt numb; I couldn't move a muscle. So, this means I never died; I was alive. Everything started flooding into my mind, like I was watching a horror movie. My chest heaved with ragged breath. All my emotions were numb except for the anger that was boiling within me. I despised them with every fiber of my being, and I was going to make them pay for everything they did to me. I was going to do it in the worst way possible; they will regret ever being born.

"You are awake?" A deep, husky, and smothering voice snapped me out of my daze. My eyes followed where the voice was coming from, and I saw a guy seated in the chair. Rugged handsome, his chiseled features included sharp cheekbones, firm jaws, piercing grey eyes, and full lips, all complemented by sleek black hair and a tailored suit fitting his athletic build.

He was just out of this world, like a fictional character fresh out of a novel. But who was he, and what was he doing here? Was he the one who saved my life?

"Who…" I tried to force words out of my mouth, but my throat was dry; I couldn't utter a word. His lips curled into a sly smile as he rose off the chair and walked over to the bed where I was. He poured water into the glass and walked over to where I was. I shot him a glare as I opened my mouth and gulped all the water in the glass.

He placed the glass on the stand next to the bed and sat on the small chair next to the bed.

"I'm Ethan Black. I'm the one who saved your life. It is a pleasure to meet you, Cynthia Martin," he said calmly. His presence was just so strong that it demanded attention. I've heard of him before. If I'm not wrong, he was the richest person in this country, a mafia lord with power, wealth, and a feared reputation.

"Why did you save my life?" I questioned, my throat parched, a dull ache throbbing in my head.

"How about you get better first, and then we can discuss this?" He asked, his gaze locking into mine. I nodded.

"How long was I here?" I questioned, scanning around the ward. I didn't know how many days I had stayed here, but one thing was for sure: I didn't want to stay here any longer.

"You've been in a chronic coma for almost three years," he said. I gasped, a shockwave running through my veins.

"And you stayed the whole time? Why would you do that for a total stranger?" I questioned. I couldn't process what he was saying right now. I was in a coma for almost three years, and he still stayed with me the whole time. Why?

"Nothing is for free in this lifetime, my dear. I saved your life, and you must give me something in return," he said calmly. I lifted my eyebrows, gazing at him. I expected that already, but what did he want from me? I wasn't patient. I wanted to know now.

"What do you want?" I questioned, a knot forming in my stomach. I just hoped he didn't want something I didn't have.

"You are still weak, little one; how about you recover first, then we can discuss all this?" He questioned calmly, but I didn't have time to recover. All I wanted was to avenge myself, and that was it.

"How about you stop beating around the bush and tell me what you want because once I'm out of this hospital, I will not have time for games," I said, glaring right at him. Once I was out of here, my only goal was to make everyone who betrayed me pay. Hell was going to break loose, and they were going to regret everything they did to me. I was going to destroy them.

"So the thing is, my grandpa was sick, and he didn't want to have the surgery until I got married," the stranger said, his tone calm as his gaze locked with mine. I scrunched up my face, trying to understand where this conversation was going.

"What does that have to do with me?" I retorted.

"I brought him to the hospital, and I showed you to him. I told him that you were my fiancée. Well, he agreed to surgery, and now he is taking his medication. So, as long as he is still under medication, you will have to act as my wife in front of my grandpa until he finishes taking his medicine and gets better," he said calmly. It seemed like even the Gods wanted me to take revenge.

This was the best opportunity for me to take my revenge. I can't just wake up and take revenge. I needed power, I needed money, I needed to be friends with high society, and then I would take my revenge. I wanted to make them suffer. I wanted them to be so helpless that they will wish for death but they won't find it. I wanted them to suffer.

"Well, I don't mind acting as your wife. You've saved my life, and I don't know how I can ever thank you. This is the least I can do," I said calmly. My whole body still felt heavy and numb, and all I wanted was to get better soon.

His gaze locked into mine before a sly grin spread across his lips, his leg crossed on top of the other. "Well, there are also rules. If you agree with me, then you must never fall in love with me because I won't be responsible for your heartbreak. And secondly, you will stay away from my privacy. I simply hate women, and I don't want one close to me. I'm doing this for my grandpa," he added, his smile hinting at his deep-hidden secret.

"I don't have time for that bullshit. Love is just an illusion, and betrayal is real. My only goal is revenge. As a vampire craves blood, I'm craving revenge. I crave to hear people scream out of agony that I caused myself. I want to cause chaos," I said calmly, my face twisting with fury and vengeance. I will make them pay if this is the last thing I will do. They should have killed me completely.

"We have a deal then. Just act as my wife, and I will give you everything you need, be it money or my last name. I can even help you with your revenge," the stranger said, his tone monotone.

"Your last name is all I need as for money, I've never used anyone's money before, and I'm not going to start now. Just like before, the queen will rise from the ashes on her own without anyone's help," I said calmly. The naive Cynthia was dead, and the stone-hearted Cynthia was born. I just hope people will like the creation they have made.
