Hatake Kakashi never intended to do this. 

But… 

Hiruzen's recent actions had left him deeply disappointed. 

His father, the "White Fang of Konoha," had abandoned a mission to save his comrades—only to be scorned and driven to suicide. 

His sensei and his wife had sacrificed themselves to protect the village during the Nine-Tails' attack. 

His teammates—Uchiha Obito and Rin Nohara—had both died tragic deaths in war. 

All of them, the people most precious to him, were gone. 

And yet… 

If their sacrifices only led to the Hokage's endless compromises, the betrayal of the village's interests, and ruthless infighting… 

Kakashi couldn't accept it. 

Perhaps his heart had already died long ago. 

But Uchiha Yoru's actions had struck a strange chord within him. 

Maybe it was because Yoru was an Uchiha—a clan Kakashi had complex ties to. Or maybe it was the man's inexplicable trust in him. 

Whatever the reason, it made Kakashi realize something: 

He was still human. 

Not just a tool called a "shinobi." 

So he took out the full investigative report and distributed it to the council. 

Silence fell as everyone read through it. 

Hiruzen's face darkened with fury—but there was nothing he could do to stop it now. 

Once the report was finished, every high-ranking Konoha official exchanged uneasy glances. 

No one spoke. 

Kakashi smirked faintly beneath his mask. 

"Well? What do you all think?" 

Uchiha Fugaku, never one to miss an opportunity, seized the moment. 

"From this report, it's clear that Sarutobi Shin'nosuke abused his authority, conspired to retaliate against Yoru, and set up his subordinates. Yoru's actions were extreme, but understandable!" 

Yamanaka Inoichi, who had helped investigate, stayed silent. 

Like Akimichi Chōza, he instinctively looked toward their trio's strategist— 

Nara Shikaku. 

But what could Shikaku say? 

That Shin'nosuke's crimes were unforgivable and he deserved death? 

Instead, it was Inuzuka Tsume—fiery and blunt even among kunoichi—who slammed her fist on the table. 

"Hokage-sama!" 

"I know Shin'nosuke was your son, but if this report is accurate, colluding with Kiri's criminal spies to frame fellow shinobi—especially young ones—is inexcusable!" 

"Yoru's methods were harsh, but his motives were justified!" 

"Even you, Hokage-sama, have always prided yourself on fairness. If it were you, you'd have disowned your own son for this, wouldn't you?!" 

Hiruzen: "..." 

Aburame Shibi, ever reserved, gave a slight nod in agreement. 

Even Hyūga Hiashi, after reading the report, frowned. 

"Using such underhanded tactics against fellow shinobi crosses a line." 

"Hokage-sama… Yoru's actions, while severe, were provoked." 

Kakashi watched coldly. 

He knew these clan heads didn't truly support Yoru—but Hiruzen's weak foreign policies had left them resentful. 

If the Hokage was soft on enemies but harsh on his own, who suffered? 

Konoha's clans. Their shinobi. Their interests. 

So they all had their own agendas. 

If Kakashi could see it, Hiruzen certainly could. 

But he couldn't openly oppose them now. 

Desperate, he shot a glance at Shimura Danzō. 

But to his fury— 

Danzō ignored him. 

That old snake! 

Hiruzen cursed inwardly. 

Danzō was clearly enjoying watching him flounder. 

The last time Hiruzen had compromised like this was after the Third Great War, when his humiliating treaties forced him to "retire" and hand the Hokage seat to Minato—while he pulled strings from the shadows. 

If history repeated itself… 

Danzō's ambitions were obvious. 

Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado exchanged a look. 

Time for damage control. 

"D-Danzo… Shin'nosuke went too far this time." 

"You've always treated every shinobi as your own. Those two Uchiha boys were no different from him…" 

"As for Yoru, his methods were extreme, but what's done is done." 

"Perhaps… just detain him for reflection?" 

Hiruzen's fists clenched. 

Even you two…? 

He looked up— 

Every pair of eyes in the room burned into him. 

For the first time in decades, the Hokage felt fear. 

He coughed, forcing composure. 

"…I understand." 

"Shin'nosuke was my son, but as Hokage, I won't shield his crimes." 

"Yoru… though his actions were… sigh, never mind." 

"Shisui, inform the ANBU prison guards. Release him." 

Shisui paled. "Hokage-sama?!" 

Hiruzen waved a hand. "That's an order." 

"Right is right. Wrong is wrong." 

"Every shinobi in this village is my family. I won't punish Yoru for Shin'nosuke's sins." 

"If I had discovered my son's actions…" 

"I too would have disowned him." 

Shisui bit his lip. "…Yes, Hokage-sama." 

Beneath his mask, Kakashi allowed himself a small smile. 

Fugaku exhaled in relief—though he knew the real reason Hiruzen surrendered. 

They couldn't hold Yoru anyway. 

The only reason he hadn't broken out yet was because he chose not to. 

Not that Hiruzen could ever understand his motives.

Outside the Hokage Tower, Fugaku approached Kakashi. 

"Captain Kakashi… thank you." 

Kakashi shook his head. 

"I just did what was right." 

Fugaku smirked. "That alone puts you above most in this village." 

With that biting remark, he clapped Kakashi's shoulder and left. 

From the office window above, Hiruzen and Shisui watched, their expressions grim. 

Was Kakashi truly siding with the Uchiha now? 

Kakashi didn't look up. 

But he felt their gazes. 

He knew—from the moment he'd challenged Hiruzen in that meeting— 

He'd lost the Hokage's trust forever. 

And now, this brief exchange with Fugaku would be twisted into "proof" of his "alliance" with the Uchiha. 

He chuckled dryly. 

"Well… if I'm already damned, might as well do things my way."

That night. 

Hyūga Compound. 

A shadowy figure moved under the cover of darkness, creeping closer… 

The Kumo envoy—a jōnin commander. 

"The Byakugan of the Hyūga…" 

"Kumogakure will claim it." 

"And if we're stealing eyes, we'll take the purest pair." 

"Hiashi's daughter…" 

"Hinata, was it?" 

With a cold grin, he melted into the night, slinking toward the Hyūga main house.
