True Evil Ninja

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Weakness Abroad, Iron Fist at Home!

Uchiha Yamakaze listened, only half-understanding.

Yet the more he heard, the more his squad captain, Senpai Yoru, struck him as a paradox.

On one hand, the man wielded brutality without hesitation.

On the other, the world he envisioned shimmered with impossible idealism—so radiant it felt like a mirage.

Yamakaze recalled Clan Leader Fugaku's words:

"Yoru is terrifying in his extremes… yet childishly naive in his optimism."

As if reading his thoughts, Yoru's voice cut through the silence.

"Mercy without ruthlessness is empty charity."

"My methods are harsh because the corruption runs deep. There is no gentler way."

Yamakaze repeated the words, turning them over in his mind.

"I think I understand now, Captain…"

"You mean to excise Konoha's rot with force—so the Uchiha earn respect, not scorn. No more fighting violence with violence, pushing our clan to extinction."

Yoru's gaze darkened.

"Personally, I don't care for recognition. Whether the clan is 'accepted' is incidental."

"I act solely for my own convictions."

"But—"

"But what?"

"Konoha's darkness… is simply the first tumor in my path."

Yamakaze smirked.

"Captain, you're practically a saint."

"A saint?" Yoru bit into an apple, a bitter chuckle escaping him.

"I'm a selfish man chasing his own peace."

Yamakaze stretched, exhaling dramatically.

"Talking to you is like a spiritual workout… But don't worry—I'll spread your vision to the others."

"Oh, and Elder Yashiro mentioned Hatake Kakashi filed his report. Reliable guy. Your judgment was spot-on."

"Though who knows how the Sandaime will react…"

Yoru's eyes gleamed.

"Kakashi still has hope."

"As for Sarutobi Hiruzen—he already tried to kill me once. Failed."

"Now? He'll bide his time. The truce with Kumogakure is his priority. Only after securing it will he turn his fist inward."

Yamakaze nodded.

"Toward the Uchiha."

Yoru didn't deny it.

"But Captain… you've got plans for Kumo's envoy team, don't you?" Yamakaze crunched into his own apple—a gift from Daiko's family.

"Something big's coming?"

Yoru took another bite, his silence deliberate.

"Perhaps."

His eyes flickered with calculation.

Hokage Tower, Council Chamber

"Please, Head Ninja, have a seat."

Sandaime's smile was ingratiating. Across the table, Kumo's envoy sneered, sprawling into his chair like a conqueror. The disrespect to the Hokage himself was blatant.

"Let's negotiate, Lord Hokage."

"Of course, of course."

The disparity stung. Every Konoha shinobi present clenched their fists, humiliation burning in their chests.

Why must we grovel to this Kumo dog?

The village had been weakened—by war, by the Kyuubi's attack—but this? Surrendering dignity wouldn't buy peace. The shinobi world had never worked that way.

Yet the Sandaime insisted.

The room held Konoha's elite: Hokage Hiruzen, ROOT's Danzo, elders Koharu and Homura, clan heads (Uchiha Fugaku, Hyuga Hiashi, Nara Shikaku, Akimichi Choza, Yamanaka Inoichi, Inuzuka Tsume, Aburame Shibi), and ANBU captains—including Uchiha Shisui.

Even Hatake Kakashi, though only a squad leader, stood among them—his status as the Fourth's student and White Fang's son granting him a place.

What followed was a farce.

Kumo's envoy shredded prior agreements, demanding obscene concessions. Hiruzen yielded on every point. The final treaty bled Konoha dry.

The council seethed.

As the envoy stood to leave, he smirked.

"You're very reasonable, Lord Hokage."

"If all Konoha were like you, war would be pointless!"

His laughter echoed through the tower, etching itself into every listener's shame.

Hiruzen's smile never wavered.

"Safe travels. May our villages know lasting peace."

The envoy didn't bother replying.

The door slammed shut.

Instantly, Hiruzen's face hardened.

"With Kumo pacified, we may now address… internal threats."

His gaze slid to Shisui.

The message was clear:

The Uchiha were next.

A single thought united the room:

"Weakness abroad… iron fist at home."

Disgust simmered beneath bowed heads. Even the Sandaime's staunchest allies—the Ino-Shika-Cho—felt it.

As Shisui opened his mouth to speak, Kakashi stepped forward.

"Lord Hokage, regarding Uchiha Yoru…"

"After thorough investigation with Inoichi, Ibiki, and Elder Yashiro, we've reached a conclusion."

He placed a scroll on the table.

Hiruzen's eyes narrowed.
