Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Yoru’s Ultimate Goal!
Uchiha Yamakaze watched as Captain Yoru fell deep into thought…
Now, he was truly the leader of the Konoha Military Police Force—not just his superior, but a symbol of authority.
Yamakaze: "Captain, what about the Kumo envoy delegation? You seem… preoccupied."
Yoru shook his head.
Yoru: "How's Aoki?"
A genuine smile crossed Yamakaze's face.
Yamakaze: "Much better. He hasn't woken up yet, but the medics say he's out of danger. Otherwise, I wouldn't have left his side to come see you."
Yoru: "Good."
He exhaled in relief.
Yamakaze: "Captain… thank you."
Yoru: "Save the empty words."
Yamakaze scratched his head, chuckling.
Yamakaze: "Yeah, you're right… Still, this whole mess happened because Aoki and I were too naive—walked right into those bastards' trap."
Yoru's voice darkened.
Yoru: "I taught you never to blame yourselves. Blame the ones who set the trap. They schemed for this; you couldn't have prepared for everything."
Yamakaze: "You're right, Captain. I understand now…"
He hesitated, then leaned in.
Yamakaze: "So… is it true? You've awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan?"
Yoru: "Hn."
Yamakaze sucked in a breath, eyes blazing with admiration.
Yamakaze: "Damn… I'd give anything to see that power on the battlefield!"
The Mangekyō wasn't just strength—it came with risk, with sacrifice. But Yoru saw no need to burden the young man with those truths.
Yamakaze fidgeted, then blurted out:
Yamakaze: "Captain… if you've got this kind of power, why not just… cut ties with them? That traitor Uchiha Shisui, and—"
He glanced nervously into the shadows.
Yoru understood.
Yoru: "Yamakaze. I've told you before—I don't see you as subordinates. You're my followers. The ones who'll carry my will."
Yamakaze: "I know! And we are with you, Captain!"
Yoru: "Then you need to think. Not just train—think."
Yamakaze: "Think?"
Yoru: "Yes. I have power, but the Uchiha clan doesn't. Not truly."
"One man can reshape the shinobi world with strength alone—but I'm not that man yet. Shisui alone is a threat I can't ignore."
Yamakaze scoffed.
Yamakaze: "That traitor's that strong?"
Yoru: "Never underestimate your enemy."
"Shisui's fire-style, shurikenjutsu, his blended kentai jutsu—Blazing Sword Dance. His Shunshin, famed across nations. And above all… his Mangekyō's genjutsu."
"But worse—he may have awakened the Uchiha's ultimate power."
Yamakaze: "…Susano'o?!"
Yoru: "Exactly."
Yamakaze paled. The legendary force, rivaling a tailed beast—only spoken of in hushed tones by the elders.
Yoru: "Do you think Hiruzen would've groomed him otherwise?"
A cold sweat dripped down Yamakaze's back.
Yoru: "That said… in a fight to the death, I wouldn't lose."
"But battling Shisui and waging war on Konoha are two different things. Even in the best scenario, the Uchiha would be crippled. More likely… annihilated."
Yamakaze's fiery spirit dimmed. Passion alone couldn't conquer reality.
Yoru: "And suppose we did win. Suppose the Uchiha ruled Konoha."
"Would the clans obey us? Would the villagers pledge loyalty? Would the Daimyō accept it? Or would Kumo, Iwa, Kiri, and Suna pounce while we bled?"
Yamakaze's face went ashen.
Yamakaze: "I… hadn't thought that far."
Yoru: "Most haven't. The 'hardliners' rage against injustice. The 'moderates' cling to scraps of peace. But divided, we fall."
Yamakaze: "Then… what's your plan, Captain?"
Yoru: "You assume I act for the clan. To defy our 'fate.'"
"But that's not my goal."
"My goal… is a world where justice exists. Where good isn't trampled. Where evil answers for its sins."
"A world governed by law—not this rotting carcass of a shinobi system, where the strong feast on the weak."
Yamakaze stared, awed and overwhelmed.
Yamakaze: "Captain… that's… but is such a world even possible?"
Yoru: "I don't know. It may never exist."
"But nothing will stop me from chasing it."
"Nothing."
Yamakaze's blood burned—yet the weight of those words crushed him.
Yamakaze: "How does this… connect to now?"
Yoru: "It's not about 'now.' It's about me. My choices."
"Tell me, Yamakaze—do you think I enjoy killing?"
Yamakaze stiffened.
Yamakaze: "Well… honestly? Yeah."
Yoru: "You're wrong."
Yamakaze: "But everyone thinks—"
Yoru: "Everyone's wrong."
"I kill only those who deserve it. If I liked it, this prison would be a graveyard."
A chill shot down Yamakaze's spine. He knew it was true.
Yoru: "This world is a festering wound. And I am the blade that will cut out the rot."
"If it survives the surgery, good."
"If it dies…"
"Then I'll build a new one from its ashes."
