Chapter 69: he hates what he did
Kakucho's POV
He returned to give Izana an update on the status of how well his plans were going. He couldn't begin to describe the joy he felt when he walked in to seeing Izana kissing Y/n. He had walked in only to silently back out again so he could watch Izana kiss her. It was an amazing feat for him to care enough to kiss anyone, especially her since she had ties to Mikey.
Maybe this will help him move away from his rage. Izana wasn't always like this, but maybe he could change back a little with her at his side. I knew something was different when I kept seeing him stare at her picture, when he made plans to 'keep an eye on her' even when there were currently no plans he needed to really check on in regards to her.
He felt his hope begin to swell as he watched her slowly kiss Izana back. It was a bit hesitant, but this only seemed to encourage Izana to do more. Kakucho began to feel embarrassed as he watched Izana pull Y/n closer by her waist. The way he did was more intense and Kakucho could sense it scared her.
Kakucho felt himself spiraling into despair once again as he could tell Izana was going too fast and doing too much. Y/n was shaking and began trying to push him away, only for him to grip her harder like he was forbidding her to leave.
The tears Izana had originally wiped away from her face with care suddenly came back in full force as she began to struggle against him. Kakucho felt his heart being shredded at her cries.
Hasn't she been through enough too, Izana? Why won't you stop? I can't let this happen this way…
He opted to pretend like he just came in with the important news of his plans by making his presence known. As if it couldn't wait and they needed to talk now, causing Izana to rip away from her, but still not let her go.
"Izana, we have updates on the whereabouts of the toman members." Kakucho made sure to keep his voice steady as he tried not to look toward Y/n with anything more than nonchalance. "I didn't mean to interrupt. I just thought you should know."
Kakucho turned his eyes downward as Izana's eyes ran over him in frustration, before turning back to Y/n as if trying to decide whether this would end here.
After a few breaths of silence and Y/n's whimpers, Izana finally spoke. "Fine." He spat the words out to make it clear he hated that he'd been interrupted.
Kakucho followed Izana out of the room before moving to the side to let him lock the door, practically sealing her in the room so she can't escape.
The moments of silence continued on as Kakucho was led to a more discreet area. Once they were safely away from anyone, Kakucho began to open his mouth to speak, when Izana held up a hand to stop him.
Izana turned to face him and for the first time in years, Kakucho could see a flicker of regret in his friends' eyes. He held his breath waiting for him to speak, knowing he was trying to figure out and sort through his feelings.
"Maybe…." Izana calmly spoke, "I should have just let the Haitani brothers handle her."
Kakucho's eyes widened in confusion. "Why? Why would you regret that?"
I can't understand this. I can't! He knows how brutal those two can be!
"Because that wasn't how I wanted to show her…" Izana's words drifted off like a whisper. "Give me the updates."
Seeing Izana change the subject so quickly, he understood now.
He didn't like being the one who scared and hurt her. He let others do it, but this time he scared her personally. Even if he didn't mean to and got carried away…he hates it.
