Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Morgan: I... Get One Too?
Habit is a terrifying thing. For instance, right now.
Looking at Morgan and Artoria before him, Ian found he couldn't tear his eyes away from their chests. It wasn't purely desire. It was just... he was used to it. Just as his mother, Tiamat, would always let him see her magnificent chest without any reservation, Ian didn't think it was a bad thing.
But it seemed the human world's understanding wasn't quite the same as his mother Tiamat's gentleness. For them, this behavior seemed hard to accept. Indeed, the outside world was completely different from the Sea of Life. The dragon's descendant, at this moment, gained another piece of experience he could not have obtained in the past.
At the same time, Morgan was feeling rather vexed. She considered her perception to be quite sharp. So when she noticed Ian's attention was constantly on her and Artoria's chests, her damn competitive spirit flared up. In every sense, her chest should be more alluring than Artoria's. Artoria was just a country girl; she lacked the refined charm of Camelot.
But reality slapped Morgan across the face. To be precise, it slapped her and then kicked her for good measure.
That's right. He did look at both Artoria's chest and her own. But! The time ratio was actually a seventy-thirty split. Does this guy not understand beauty at all?! How could he not look at the big and good ones, and instead stare at the small and inferior ones? Is there something wrong with his eyes?!
"Sister?"
Sensing the immense resentment radiating from Morgan, Artoria, in her knight-princess attire, cautiously touched her hand. "What's wrong?"
"..."
"It's nothing," Morgan immediately reined in her emotions. "Is there something you need?"
"Mmm—" Artoria took out the parchment scroll King Uther had given her. It looked like a map. "This records the places we need to go, right?"
"Correct," Morgan nodded. "We just need to circle Britain and finally return to Camelot. You will surely learn a lot along the way."
"Mmm!" Artoria nodded earnestly. "I will carefully record everything I encounter on the road!"
"..." The more diligent Artoria appeared, the more Morgan's heart ached. That journey should have been hers, but now it had become a testament to Artoria's coronation. How tragic.
"This is for you."
Ian's voice interrupted Morgan's lament. He handed a flower to Artoria.
"Eh?" Taking the flower, the girl was both happy and curious. "Ian, where did you get this flower—"
"From the roadside. I thought it was very beautiful, so I picked it for you."
"Is that so?" Artoria sniffed the flower in her hand, a blush appearing on her cheeks. "I didn't think you could be so romantic sometimes. It seems you're not just an idiot who only knows how to eat in bed—"
The moment the words left her mouth, Artoria realized something was terribly wrong. She had been so happy to receive the flower that she hadn't realized Morgan was right there! "Um, sister, what I mean is..."
"You two seem to have a good relationship," Morgan spoke up before Artoria could finish her explanation. Her tone was tinged with envy. "Wanting to give something to the other person just because you find it beautiful... that's not a habit one develops in just a few days."
"I..." Morgan stopped mid-sentence. She realized Ian's gaze had, at some point, shifted to her. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"For you," Ian said, holding out another flower to Morgan.
"..." Morgan was stunned for a moment. "I... get one too?"
"Mmm. You... don't like it?"
"..."
"It's average—" Morgan turned her face slightly away, but her hand moved even faster than Artoria's to accept the flower. "But, it's not like I can't accept it."
"So it's one for everyone who's here," Artoria said, looking at the flower in her own hand. "I thought you were..."
"Were what?"
"Nothing!" Artoria's cheeks flushed. "Let's go!"
The situation seemed to have taken a subtle turn. Morgan realized this was the first time she had ever received a flower. Even if it was just a wildflower from the roadside... it didn't feel cheap at all. This guy may not understand beauty, but he's not completely clueless either.
However, happy as she was, Morgan hadn't forgotten the purpose of this trip. She needed to complicate the relationship between Artoria and Ian, which would naturally make her throne-stealing sister an enemy of Tiamat. And the reason would be... "the wicked woman who seduced your son."
There would be no shortage of such opportunities. Morgan could feel that the way Ian looked at Artoria, and the way Artoria looked at Ian, was not as simple as it seemed. They were just one step away. All she had to do was give them that final push.
At this thought, Morgan looked at the flower in her hand. Though she felt it was a bit of a pity, she still tucked it into her clothes and didn't look at it again. Compared to so-called admiration, the Britain beneath her feet was more important.
The rest of the journey was silent. There were a few occasional exchanges between Artoria and Ian, but they quickly ended. Following the map on the parchment, the group arrived at a village at sunset.
But looking at the scene before them, Artoria couldn't help but suck in a cold breath. Though it was a village, not a single blade of grass grew. There was nothing that could be called food. Everywhere, she could see villagers who were starving, lying by the roadside waiting to die. They didn't even seem to have the strength to lift their hands, letting them hang limply. The air itself seemed to be thick with an aura of despair.
"How can this be..."
The smile on Artoria's face vanished in an instant. She had never expected the first stop on her journey to be such a tragic scene. The girlish thoughts of bickering with Ian over small things were now completely gone. All that remained was a heart pounding fiercely with concern. That's right. This was no pleasure trip. This was a bitter lesson to teach her the true state of Britain.
"Ian! Come over here, quickly!"
