The Reawakening Of the Clockwork Soverign

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The First Trial

Leonhart stood at the summit of his newly established Sovereign Dominion, a towering fortress that had risen from the ashes of his empire. The winds whipped around him, carrying the scent of dust, metal, and promise. Below, in the valley, the Iron Saints and other units from the Sovereign Army moved in synchronised patterns, their polished exteriors gleaming under the midday sun. The machines were more than just tools-they were the first step in his grand vision for the world: a world of unbreakable order and absolute function.

His mind whirred, processing data from the Sovereign Protocol, which had been collecting information from the nearby towns, local factions, and the growing resistance movements. The system had granted him an expansive array of abilities since his resurrection, and yet, despite his growing power, he knew the first true trial was coming. The Church of the Divine Choir-the largest and most powerful religious faction in Eravandros-had been biding its time, and they were about to take action.

Leonhart's hand clenched into a fist, but his face remained expressionless. His gaze swept over the landscape, his mind already calculating the best course of action. The Divine Choir, a collective of powerful priests and divine beings who channelled the will of their gods, had become his most significant obstacle. They wielded immense spiritual energy, drawing power from the faith of their followers. However, as the Protocol had already shown, faith could be bent, shaped, and even turned into something tangible. The key would be dismantling their divine foundation, one piece at a time.

"Nara," Leonhart's voice cut through the silence, the only sound amidst the rhythmic hum of machines.

The young woman beside him, a former cleric candidate restructured into a Servo Arcanist, stood with her head bowed slightly in deference to him. Nara had once been part of the Church of the Divine Choir, raised in its teachings, her soul bound to the service of the gods. But her journey had taken a different turn. Rejected by the Church for failing to pass the strict trials of faith, she had been disillusioned, her belief shattered. Instead of falling into despair, she had embraced the cold precision and truth of Leonhart's Protocol and allowed her faith to be restructured into something greater-something mechanical.

She was not a mechanic, but a woman whose heart had once burned with faith, only to be discarded by the very gods she had revered. Now, she stood as the first Servo Arcanist, her body augmented with both arcane energy and machinery. The transformation had unlocked incredible power within her. Her mechanical limbs pulsed with latent energy, and her eyes glimmered with the cold focus of a soldier committed to a cause far greater than any divine myth.

"Yes, My Sovereign?" Nara responded, her voice steady but laced with the unmistakable edge of curiosity and anticipation.

Leonhart nodded, his expression still impassive. "Prepare the other Servo Arcanists and Kinetic Infantry. It's time to engage with the Church's forces. We've located their high priestess near the Vallis Shrine to the south. We move at dusk."

Nara's eyes gleamed with determination. She had witnessed Leonhart's transformation firsthand-seen his ability to bend the world to his will. Now, she was ready to face this trial alongside him.

But the Church was no simple foe. The Divine Choir wielded their Faith Constructs-manifestations of divine will that took shape as ethereal warriors capable of wielding spells that defied the laws of nature. They were powerful, but they were also bound by belief. If Leonhart could break the very foundation of their faith, he could turn their greatest strength into a liability.

As evening approached, Leonhart stood in the command centre of his fortress, the dim glow of the Sovereign Protocol lighting up the walls around him. He scanned the tactical map, his mechanical brain processing every detail of the mission ahead. His units-Servo Arcanists, Kinetic Infantry, and the newly created Emotional Harmonisers-would be the vanguard.

"Overseer 01, what is the status of the forces?" Leonhart asked, his voice unwavering.

The towering figure of Overseer 03, a mechanical being with a human brain implanted into a metal shell, stepped forward. The overseer's tactical prowess and ability to coordinate large-scale operations made him invaluable to Leonhart's efforts.

"The enemy forces are positioning themselves around the shrine," Overseer 01 reported in a voice that was cool and precise.

"We estimate approximately 1000 soldiers, with an additional contingent of Faith Constructs. The high priestess herself is surrounded by a Faith Aura, designed to bolster the strength of her followers. The attack will need to be swift, and we must neutralise the Faith Constructs first before engaging their leaders."

Leonhart nodded. "Good. Initiate the Dominator Relay Nodes at once. We need to disrupt their Faith Constructs before they can form into solid defence formations."

The Dominator Relay Nodes were a breakthrough of the Sovereign Protocol. By focusing on the divine energy emanating from the Church, they could disrupt the flow of power and cut off the reach of divine power creating "dead zones" where faith-based abilities would falter. These dead zones would be crucial in turning the tide of the battle.

"Nara, you will lead the other general Servo Arcanists," Leonhart continued. "Their task is to focus on the priestess. I will coordinate with Helena to ensure our forces remain intact."

Nara gave a small nod, her mechanical eyes gleaming as she turned to prepare her units. The other newly crafted servo arcanists were counterparts to the mages of this world, capable of manipulating and storing magic in their bodies through various augmentations, essentially creating a mage legion led by Nara and Helena as of now. Having more upgrades and augmentations than the regular servo arcanists, Nara and Helena have been given their own separate legions to manage and train and evolve as they saw fit.

The Servo Arcanists that were part of her legion were her responsibility, and she had trained them rigorously. Now, they would be forged and tempered in the furnace of war.

As the night grew darker, the army of Sovereign Units began to mobilise. The Servo Arcanists, their bodies a perfect blend of arcane magic and machinery, formed the frontlines. Nara herself stood at the head, her mind attuned to the Sovereign Protocol and the powerful energies and guidance it offered.

The Kinetic Infantry, powered by their core engines, marched behind her, their bodies reinforced with powerful kinetic shields and energy-based weapons. They were designed to absorb and redirect energy, making them the perfect frontline troops and a counter to the Faith Constructs.

Leonhart, standing at the rear of the formation, kept a cold, calculating gaze fixed on the Vallis Shrine in the distance. His mind raced through potential variables and responses, his body still, but his thoughts ever active. The Omnithrone, which he would soon finish constructing, was not just an ambition-it was the final key to his transcendence. This battle was more than a simple skirmish; it was the first step in the grand scheme. He could not afford to fail.

As they neared the Vallis Shrine, the air seemed to thicken with tension. The first signs of the Faith Constructs became visible-glowing figures formed from ethereal light, moving in tight formations around the priestess. The constructs were formidable, their bodies seemingly covered in armour made of solidified faith glowing bright with the radiance of the sun-golden and warm, each one capable of wielding divine magic and blocking incoming attacks with an impenetrable aura. Leonhart's thoughts were immediately drawn to the Dominator Relay Nodes. He needed them to be active to weaken the Faith Constructs and give his units the advantage.

"Overseer 01, activate the nodes," Leonhart commanded. His voice was calm, but there was a layer of anticipation beneath the surface.

The Overseer complied, and with a sharp hiss, the Dominator Relay Nodes hummed to life. Waves of energy shot out from the ground in the direction of the faith constructs, distorting the air around them. As the energy spread, the Faith Constructs began to flicker, their once-stable forms now destabilising.

"Now, Nara," Leonhart ordered. "Engage the priestess. Show me what you have learned."

Without hesitation, Nara led the Servo Arcanists into battle, her mechanical limbs moving with fluid precision as she directed her units forward. The constructs, weakened by the Dominator Relay Nodes, began to lose their form, their gleaming armour now reduced to just a sparkle, their divine strength fading under the assault. But the high priestess was not without power. Her Faith Aura flared, casting a barrier around her and her followers, trying to offset the disruption created by the Dominator Relay Nodes, increasing their resilience.

But this was no longer the world of gods and miracles. This was Leonhart's world, a world of systems, structure, and inevitable progression. His Servo Arcanists legion closed in, their bodies powered by both machinery and magic, capable of cutting through the priestess's divine defences.

Nara raised her gauntlet, channelling energy from the Sovereign Protocol and the magic surrounding her into a concentrated beam of raw force that emitted a horrifying aura, the amalgamation of science and magic gave the beam an otherworldly appearance where the outside of the beam looked like normal magic abilities but the inside of the beam consisted of various runes and code like data streams concentrating the beams power even further and raising the destructive power up a notch. Then, as the beam came in contact with the dome of Faith Aura created by the high priestess, it tore through the Faith Aura like a hot knife through butter, dismantling the very essence of the aura barrier, creating a massive opening for her team.

Now, without their treasured faith that fueled their powers and the Faith Aura barrier gone, the rest were just easy pickings for Leonhart's legion.

The battle raged on, with each passing moment, Leonhart's forces gained ground. The Faith Constructs faltered, their presence weakening with every strike. Without the constant source of faith that they always relied on, they were like tanks but without fuel or ammunition.

Nara and her Servo Arcanists' legion cleaved through the priestess's remaining guards, finally leaving the high priestess herself vulnerable.

With a final, decisive movement, Nara swung her weapon landing a crushing blow, knocking the high priestess unconscious. The last of her struggle to keep up the Faith Aura shattered in a burst of divine light.

With the fall of the high priestess the Faith Constructs vanished as well. Without someone to channel faith into them, their energy dispersed into the air, leaving nothing but the remnants of shattered belief.

Leonhart's forces had emerged victorious.

As the battlefield quieted, Leonhart's expression remained unchanged. He had won, but it was only the first step. There were more challenges ahead, and the next phase of his plan had already begun. The Sovereign Protocol hummed within him, constantly analysing, adapting, and optimising. He would build his empire again, not through faith, but through order.

The world was changing, and soon, it would be impossible to ignore the rise of the Clockwork Monarch.
