Chapter 12: 12- Forget bitterness
Orion laughed heartily despite the looming threat on his head, "Divorce? No, you're not getting out of this, you signed the papers remember?" He looked pointedly at Calista.
She wasn't impressed by him at all, looking at his retreating figure, "Orion!" She called.
The urgency in her tone caught his attention, making him halt immediately, "What?" He muttered, turning back. That was the first time she would call him by his given name, it was either 'sir' or Mr. Wolfe, so it came as a surprise.
He sighed, "What brought this on?" He inquired.
She shivered, remembering the look on Rihanna's face when she confronted her, "A lady came here, her aura was scary and she told me outrightly to get out of your life and I am not exactly equiped to fight with someone way out of my league." She explained with a forlorn look.
"Who came here?" He asked again, his heart beating rapidly against his chest.
"She didn't say who she was, but I have a feeling if I don't listen, I'm gonna be dead." She said as a matter of fact.
Orion closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, "It's that bitch that thinks she's pregnant with my child." He exhaled.
Calista's eyes widened, "Pregnant? And you didn't think to tell me someone is carrying your child? Why would you even marry me when someone is already bonded with you?! What kind of man are you?!" She screamed, feeling herself going out of breath.
Orion held a finger up, taking slow steps towards her, "Don't you ever raise your voice at me. And I said she thinks she's pregnant with my child, not that it's sure she's pregnant with my child. Get the facts right, plus I literally just got to talk to her today, so I couldn't have told you." he rolled his eyes.
Calista scoffed, "That is what an irresponsible man would say, but I'm not surprised, especially coming from a man that would threaten someone to marry him." She eyed him and turn to leave.
"Don't you dare leave." He snapped.
She turned slightly, "Or what? You'll divorce me? Sue me? What haven't I heard?"
"Just know that we're going to my parents house tomorrow." He shouted after her.
"I am not going! I want a divorce!" She shouted back.
He ran towards her, "You will go with me and you will stay married to me until the paper you signed is fulfilled." He all but ordered.
"Sir…" Calista started, hoping to reason with him, but he held a hand up and left her there.
"What have I gotten myself into?" She muttered, going to her room.
Orion went straight to his car, thankfully his driver was still parking it, "Drive to Ryland co-op." He instructed and got inside.
"We've arrived sir." His driver notified him when he realized Orion was lost in thoughts and wasn't paying attention.
He got down and walked with a straight shoulder to the reception, he was hoping to make an appointment, but, Ryland himself was there to welcome him.
"Listen here and listen good, Ryland." Orion sneered, pointing at the man's chest, "You had no right, none at all to go to my home and threaten my wife because your daughter thinks her baby is mine. For all I know, she could be carrying someone else's child and trying to pin it on me." He inhaled and let it out.
Ryland's eyes narrowed, "Did you or did you not sleep with my daughter? For all I know you're trying to force yourself into my family by getting her pregnant."
Orion looked lost, "Force my way into your family? You think I wanna be in the same space with a man like you?" He asked incredulously.
Ryland shrugged, "You've been trying for years, isn't it." It came out as a statement rather than a question.
Orion shook his head, "Your daughter approached me that night, I was sitting alone and I was content, but she wanted a good time and I showed her what a good time is." He smirked, wanting to rile up Ryland, but the man held onto one of his words.
"She came to you? And you did not know she was my daughter?"
"No!" Orion exclaimed, "Even is she told me I wouldn't believe her, but I truly didn't know." He admitted, "I know it all seems confusing now, so man to man, how about we do a DNA test to determine who's child it is she's really carrying?" Ryland eyes narrowed, but he saw sense in Orion's statement even though he knew his daughter would never agree to such preposterous idea.
Ryland nodded, "Let us play a game, Orion." He said and Orion was taken aback, that was the first time Ryland would say his name, making him intrigued by what the man was about to say.
"What game?" He asked.
Ryland chuckled dryly, retreating back towards the elevator leading to his office, "The rules and the games will be communicated with you. Don't step out of line, Wolfe, I have eyes on you."
"That is a threat." Orion thought, "God, what have I gotten myself into?" He turned to leave.
As he was about to open the car door, his phone pinged with a message from an unknown number, it read: "You own today, Orion, tomorrow, however, could be mine if I so wish it. Watch your back."
He scoffed, looking back at Ryland co-op, "Is this his game?" He muttered, pocketing his phone, but it pinged again.
This time, the message read,: "This is not who you think it is. It is someone more fearful, watch your back, Orion Wolfe."
His heart raced, but he didn't panic, it could be a prank or something to chase him off some new deals he had planned on signing.
"Fuck you, whoever you are!" He said out loud, getting inside the car. "Take me home," he instructed his driver and sighed, leaning into the seat. "I am going to pretend this never happened."
And that is exactly what Orion did.
