Chapter 21: Chapter 22: Losing A Child
Luna Lila was tending to the wounded in the pack's hospital, her hands moving swiftly and surely as she cleaned and bandaged wounds. She was lost in her work, her mind focused on the task at hand, when she heard a commotion outside.
At first, she thought it was just another wounded warrior being brought in, but then she heard the sound of footsteps, heavy and deliberate, and the murmur of voices, low and somber.
Her heart began to beat faster as she sensed that something was wrong. She turned to one of the healers, with a look of concern on her face. "What's going on?" she asked.
The healer's expression was grim. "It's the twins," she said, her voice cracking with tears. "Ryker and Ryder just brought them back. They're...they're not breathing."
Luna Lila world came crashing down on her. her breath knocked out of her. She stumbled backwards, her eyes wide with shock and horror.
"No," she whispered, her voice trembling. "No, no, no. This can't be happening."
She felt a hand on her shoulder, but she shook it off. She didn't want to be comforted. She didn't want to be told that everything would be okay. Because it wouldn't be okay. Her children were not breathing , and nothing would ever be the same again.
She stumbled out of the hospital, her eyes blinded with tears, she saw her twins being rushed into the emergency ward and the pack nurses pushing Ryder back saying he can't enter the emergency room with them.
Luna Lila's heart shattered into a million pieces.if anything happened to her children She didn't know how she was going to survive it . She didn't know how she was going to go on without her twins.
Alpha Thane stepped out of the car being parked in front of the pack house ,his eyes scanning the surrounding, everything was in disarray, with pack members running wildly in all directions. The air was also thick with the scent of blood and fear, Alpha thane instincts immediately went on high alert.
Micheal, his Beta, climbed out of the driver's seat, his face grim. "What happened?."
Seer Namarie, who had been riding in the backseat, also climbed out of the car, her eyes scanning the surroundings. "Alpha Thane, I sense that something is very wrong," she said, her voice trembling.
Alpha Thane's approached his pack members. "What's going on?" he demanded, his voice firm and authoritative.
The pack members seeing their alpha bow down in respect. One of the pack members, a young warrior, approached him, his eyes wide with fear. "Alpha Kael and his pack launched a surprise attack on us," he said, his voice shaking. "We were caught off guard, and...and the twins were badly wounded."
Alpha Thane's felt like he had been punched in the gut. He quickly pulled out his phone and dialed his mate's number, but it went straight to voicemail.
He turned to the warrior who was still kneeling down. "Where are they ," he growled.
The warrior bow down his head in fear, pointing to the direction of the pack hospital.
As they rushed to the pack hospital, Alpha Thane's heart was racing with fear. What would he find when he got there? Would his twins be okay?, he just hoped and prayed to the moon goddess that they should live.
When they arrived at the hospital, Alpha Thane's worst fears were confirmed. His mate was sitting beside their son Ryder, both of them crying uncontrollably. The hospital room was filled with the sound of beeping machines and the smell of antiseptic.
His heart felt as if it had been ripped from his chest as he took in the scene before him. He rushed to his mate's side, pulling her into a tight embrace .
"My love, I'm so sorry," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I should have been here to protect them."
Luna Lila body shook with sobs as she clung to him. Extending his arms toward Ryder he pulled him into the hug, reassuring them that both Aiden and Aurora will be fine.
"They will survive through this," he whispered to them. "
After what seems like an eternity the pack healer emerged from the emergency room with a weary expression. She approached Alpha Thane, her eyes filled with a deep sadness.
"I'm so sorry," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We lost both of them ."
Alpha Thane's face went white with shock, his eyes fixed on the healer as if willing her to take back her words.
But what the healer said next was even more astonishing. "It's strange, because Aiden was the only one wounded, but Aurora...she wasn't wounded at all not even a scratch on her. She just...stopped breathing."
Alpha Thane exchanged a stunned glance with Seer Namarie, who was standing beside him. The seer's eyes narrowed, her expression thoughtful.
The pack healer nodded, as if confirming her own thoughts. "I've never seen anything like it. It's as if...Aurora's body just gave up."
With a heavy sigh, the healer turned and walked back into the emergency room, leaving Alpha Thane, beta Micheal and Seer Namarie alone.
Seer Namarie turned to Alpha Thane and beta Micheal , her eyes filled with a deep sadness. "I think I know what happened to Aurora," she said, her voice a whisper, not wanting to gain the attention of Luna Lila and the rest of the pack . "It's because of the soul connection between them. When Aiden was wounded, Aurora also felt his pain and when he stopped breathing her soul was torn from her body, following the soul of her brother ."
Alpha Thane's face contorted in anguish. "Is there anything you can do to help my children, I don't want to lose them, I can't bear to lose them, please am begging you ?" he pleaded, his voice cracking with emotion.
Seer Namarie shook her head , her expression grim. "I might have a solution, Alpha, but it will be difficult. We'll need to perform a ritual to bring back their soul but we can only save one of them."
She looked at him wearily, "i think you should inform your mate and decide which one to save.I'm sorry couldn't save them both."she said lowering her head down.
Alpha Thane went still as Seer Namarie delivered the devastating news, he felt like he had been punched in the gut. He couldn't bear the thought of losing either of his children. He didn't even know how to explain himself to their mother, taking a deep breath he went in search of his mate to deliver the news to her.
He found her in the hospital room, sitting beside the twins' beds. She looked up as he entered, her eyes red-rimmed from crying.
"Hey my love," he said moving closer to her ,his voice shaking. "Seer Namarie says she might have a solution but ...." he trailed off not knowing how to continue.
Luna Lila looked at him, her expression anxious and her voice shaking. " but what,? Please tell me ,I'll do anything to save them." She said with tears rolling down her eyes.
His face contorted in anguish as he watched his mate break down in tears. He felt a pang of helplessness and despair, taking a deep breath he steeled himself and delivered the critical part of the news to her. "She said only one of the twins can be saved."
Luna Lila's face contorted in horror. "No," she whispered. " No, it not possible We can't lose either of them,I won't lose either of them."
Just then, Beta Micheal appeared at the doorway. "Alpha Thane," he said, his voice low. "Remember what Seer Namarie said about Aurora being Aiden's vanguard."
Alpha Thane's eyes narrowed, his mind racing. He remembered Seer Namarie's words: "Aurora will one day die for her brother. Maybe that day is today."
Micheal's eyes locked onto Alpha Thane's. "Think about it, Alpha," he said. "Maybe this is what's meant to be."
Seer Namarie entered the room, her eyes were filled with a deep sadness as she explained the ritual to Luna Lila . "We will use Aurora's soul to bring Aiden's soul back," she said. "Their souls are connected, and this is the only way to save Aiden." her eyes filled with compassion. "I'm sorry, Luna," she said. "But we must decide quickly. If we don't, both of the twins will die."
Luna shook her head, her eyes welling up with tears. "I won't choose," she said. "I won't choose between my children."
Seer Namarie's expression was grim. "Aurora is Aiden's vanguard," she explained. "It is her fate to die for him. Their souls are connected in a way that transcends life and death."
Luna's sobs grew louder, her body shaking with grief. Alpha Thane's face was set in a determined expression, but his eyes were filled with tears.
Seer Namarie's voice was urgent. "You must decide quickly, Alpha Thane," she said. "If we don't perform the ritual soon, both of the twins will be lost to us forever."
"Do it," Alpha Thane growled, his voice cracking with emotion. "Save Aiden's life."
