Chapter 10: ASCC-Chapter 10 The Beginning and the Past of Fifteen Years
"Don't worry, Senior Sister, I've got it under control."
Ryoji waved his hand and smiled, saying, "So far, I've only used that technique twice. Besides today, I only tried it once when I first developed it."
It wasn't until last year that he began training in his Noble Art and learning sword techniques from his master, God of War Nangou Torajirou.
In other words, the strength he has now has only taken about a year to achieve, with most of that time spent on recovery and physical training.
He had only tested Lightning Flint once on his master, almost dying on the spot. It was thanks to his master's timely intervention with a healing capsule that he survived.
Since then, he had been well aware of how dangerous that technique was, so he sealed it away voluntarily. It was only today, against Shinguuji Kurono, that he couldn't help but use it again.
"Whether I can trust you saying you have it under control is something I'm not sure about…"
Toudou Touka rubbed her forehead, her face showing a look of suspicion.
If he truly had it under control, he wouldn't have used that technique against the new Director today.
Though she had only seen Junior Brother a few times, she knew what kind of person he was.
Had she met him in the past year, she would have known he had developed such a dangerous technique and would have prohibited him from using it.
"Anyway, since you're now a student at Hagun Academy, you're under my watch. I won't let you disregard your health and act recklessly. Be prepared!"
Toudou Touka stood up, making a declaration in an imposing manner.
"You'll stay in the infirmary tonight. I'll come to pick you up tomorrow. I've left your suitcase here, and here's the student handbook. I've already applied for it for you. If you're not feeling well, use the handbook to contact me…"
She took out a palm-sized LCD device from her uniform pocket and placed it on the bedside table.
The device was adorned with a golden school emblem. When opened, it resembled a smartphone, with various functions such as calling, emailing, and browsing the internet.
This was the Hagun Academy student handbook.
"Have you finished eating?"
After making sure everything was settled, Senior Sister finally looked at the tray in Ryoji's hand.
"Done."
The tray was empty after Ryoji's ravenous eating.
"Are you full?"
"About 80%."
"Perfect, no need to eat too much for dinner."
She extended her hand to take the tray from Ryoji and was about to turn to leave when her gaze suddenly paused at the corner of his lips.
Furrowing her brows and with a serious expression, she took a handkerchief from her pocket, bent down, and gently wiped the oil stains from the corners of his mouth.
He could have done this himself.
Ryoji was about to say so but was immediately silenced by Senior Sister's gaze.
As nightfall descended and the last traces of sunset disappeared, the dark night sky replaced the blue day, with stars twinkling softly without disturbing anyone.
Under the moonlight, the distance between them was close enough to hear each other's breathing.
Although she always wore glasses, Senior Sister's features were exceptionally beautiful. Her facial lines were gentle, giving her a kind and caring big-sister-like aura.
Ryoji's eyes were slightly lowered, avoiding looking into Senior Sister's eyes.
"All done. Rest well. I'll be leaving now. Don't cause any trouble."
Toudou Touka straightened up, satisfied with Ryoji's side profile under the moonlight, and couldn't help but give him a few more reminders before leaving with the tray.
After Senior Sister left, the infirmary was left with only Ryoji.
"Girls at this age are something else, they develop so quickly!"
It was only then that Ryoji let out a complicated sigh and lay back against the wall.
"Can't hold it in one hand."
He had measured it himself last year, so there was no doubt.
Lying at the head of the bed, Ryoji gazed out at the starlight, his thoughts drifting uncontrollably.
Senior Sister had always been like that.
From the first time they met, she had taken special care of him.
Back then, Ryoji couldn't get out of bed. Whether it was eating, drinking, or even basic bodily functions, Senior Sister tended to him hand and foot, day and night, without a single complaint.
Although they could only meet for about a month each year, to Ryoji, Senior Sister truly felt like a mother or elder sister.
In both of his lives, this was the first time he had felt such a motherly warmth from another person.
In this new life, besides the master who had rescued him from the snow, the most important person to him was Senior Sister, who cared for him with the same gentleness as a mother.
**Crossing Over.**
Even now, thinking back on it made Ryoji's heart heavy.
The culprit behind his crossing over was undoubtedly that rudimentary web game that suddenly appeared on his computer. After his rebirth, he found himself inhabiting the character template he had created in his previous life.
No, not just inhabiting, but actually becoming that template.
A person's basic abilities should be balanced; even if there is some tilt, it should never be extreme.
— Because once it's extreme, it means death.
**Physique, Mind, Magic Power, Charisma, Luck.**
Among these, especially Physique and Mind Energy, if no attribute points are allocated, it means the person is effectively dead. Only the dead lack Physique and Mind Energy.
The character template seemed to follow this principle, allocating one attribute point to each of the five options, leaving the remaining 45 points for free distribution.
It was a trash game to begin with and driven by frustration over a broken computer, he had approached it with the same mindset as playing a life simulation game. He allocated points with the same attitude.
As the saying goes, strength can be a matter of version, but looks are a lifetime affair.
Thus, he put all 45 free attribute points into Charisma.
It was nothing, just out of curiosity, definitely not because of any regret over a lack of attractiveness.
Due to a moment of recklessness, he paid a painful price.
After being reborn into this world, he was forced into the character template he had created, becoming a life form with only 1 point in Physique, Mind Energy, Magic Power, and Luck, but with 46 points in Charisma.
The result was clear.
As an infant, with only 1 point in Physique, he became extremely frail, with vital signs ten times weaker than an average baby, muscles devoid of vitality, bones so brittle they seemed like they could be crushed with minimal effort, and heart and lung functions at their limit. It was not surprising at all if he were to die at any moment.
According to his master, he was on the brink of death dozens of times each day. Every time, doctors would declare he wouldn't last ten minutes, yet he survived each time, almost miraculously.
Looking back, surviving in that condition must have exhausted all the luck he had accumulated over two lifetimes.
Or perhaps, his body still carried the residual blessings of crossing over, allowing him to barely get through that childhood?
