Chapter 11: The Dravari's
Andria's POV
"I guess it's time to learn control, the scent of your heat is all over the place.' Larissa said with a concerned look on her face.
"Try applying this ointment on your shoulders. I used it when I first shifted and couldn't mask my scent." Larissa dipped her hands into her bag and brought out an ointment.
"It's effective and should mask your scent in two minutes", she extended the ointment to me. I took the ointment and applied it hesitantly.
"It hasn't stopped. Why isn't this ointment working on you? It works for every werewolf," She said, turning to Mel for affirmation.
Mel nodded, looking at me with a concerned look on her face
"I've heard of an old witch who can help you," Mel added.
So they could still perceive my scent, wasn't that supposed to be normal here? I wondered why they were so worried.
"Is it that bad?" I was getting worried too.
"Your scent might start attracting even the wrong people to you, you know the male werewolves are easily drawn to strong scents like yours," Mel answered.
"You were saying something about an old witch. How do we get to her?"
Many thoughts roamed my head at once. No wonder the successors were able to sense that I could feel the mate bond to. Damn you, moon goddess, for playing with me.
"Is it like that for all of you?" I wanted to know if they had gone through the same problem.
"We met my wolf when we were sixteen. It was easy to mask our scent with the ointment." Larissa said. I could tell that she wanted to help, but she was confused.
"Maybe it isn't as bad as you guys think." I tried to cheer them up, but it seemed like it wasn't happening.
"Andria, there are dangerous and powerful werewolves in this school. It appears cool, but strange things happen here, too, and we don't want you to be a victim. Right, Mel?" Larissa gestured towards Mel as if she was trying to say something, but only Mel could help her with it.
I tried to wrap my head around the whole revelation. What is going on?. By now, they had already finished eating.
Mel stood up, and Larissa followed. "We should continue this conversation in the dormitory. It is risky out here." Larissa said.
We headed out of the cafeteria as fast as possible. They were hurrying, and I had to match their pace. It seemed like the whole cafeteria was staring at us.
"You seem so much in a hurry?" The last voice I wanted to hear was behind me. What did he want this time?.
And Athena wasn't helping matters. I doubt that she knows she is in danger.
"Yeah, Ladies matter." Mel cut in and dragged me out of something that could start a scene.
We moved fast and in silence to the dormitory, and I kept wondering what kind of evil was wrapped under the duvet of a flashy school.
However, from the look of it, this appears to be serious and therefore can't be overlooked.
We finally got back, and Mel didn't just allow me to settle. She continued, urgency written all over her face.
"You have not heard of the Dravari's." She paused, allowing the name to hit hard. "These wolves are a special, ancient breed of werewolves. They are called the hunter wolves for a reason."
"They are known for their bloodlust", Larissa added, nodding "And they are aggressive and obsessed with the scent of wolves on heat.
"The last she-wolf with her scent as obvious as yours, disappeared with no trace", Mel continued. "We don't know who the Dravari's are, but their attacks are always around the school premises, suggesting that they are with us."
"Raya was her name, she was popular for her heat scent, until the Dravari's came for her. Our history teacher had told us." Larissa said.
"Sadly enough, newly wolfed out she wolves who hadn't learned to mask their scents had also been noticed to have gone missing recently." Then she looked at me to check if I understood where she was going.
"Now do you see the urgency?" Mel finished off.
I understand this, but why does it have to be me? "Has there been anyone whose scent wasn't masked even after applying the ointment?"
"Not that we know of, just those who didn't know how to mask their scent", Larissa answered.
"By nightfall, we have to leave for the old witch's house. I think she will have something for you."
Nightfall
"Aria, are you up?"
A loud bang woke me up from sleep. "Aria, we need to leave soon, the woods are dangerous by midnight." My roommates called from outside.
I slowly recognized my environment. Ah, yes, we were supposed to go to the witch.
"Hold on, I'm almost done. I hurried to the bathroom and out. Got dressed and joined outside.
"You guys know that it's against the rules to leave the school premises, especially at night," I said sarcastically. They both laughed, I guess they got the joke.
We moved swiftly through our regular escape route and into the woods. The night was pitch black, but the winds were gentle.
"You guys better watch out," Mel called out in a mama bear tone. "Don't bother yourself, we have been out here before.
We walked for a little while until we came across a weird old-looking building from the 18th century.
"She is an old witch, should be around 300 years now, so what were you guys expecting?" Mel said, shooting a slight glare at Larissa and I.
"After you", Larissa said, pointing towards the door for Mel.
In all these, Athena had a bad feeling, not that she thought it was a bad idea to go and see the witch, but because she sensed something bad might come out of the visit.
She hasn't been comfortable since she heard about the Dravari's and walking into a 300-year-old hut, like the ones in Hansel and Gretel, scared her even more.
"We don't back out," I spoke to my wolf, hoping to silence its negative thoughts.
