Chapter 500: Chapter 498: Ōtsutsuki Toneri
"It's really troublesome not having the Uchiha bloodline; otherwise, I wouldn't have to waste so much," Daniel sighed as he looked at the nine combined streams of chakra in his hands.
The Uchiha clan, the Rinnegan, and the Divine Tree are a perfect trio. Black Zetsu spent millennia in the Shinobi World, all in the hope that an Uchiha would awaken the Rinnegan. However, the conditions to unlock the Rinnegan are extraordinarily strict. The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan alone posed the greatest challenge for Black Zetsu. Even though the Uchiha had produced many geniuses, it was incredibly rare for two brothers to both awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan.
And when adding in the reincarnation of Indra's chakra, the odds become even slimmer. The pairing of Madara and his brother or Itachi and Sasuke was an exceptional stroke of luck.
After discussing things with Black Zetsu, Daniel recognized a problem: even if he could obtain Madara's Rinnegan from Nagato, without Uchiha physiology, controlling the Divine Tree would be extremely difficult.
The world of Naruto was indeed dominated by the conflicts within the Ōtsutsuki clan. Without their bloodline, participating in these battles was nearly impossible. Even though Daniel could fuse with Hashirama cells, obtaining Uchiha bloodline traits remained out of reach due to genetic limitations. Similarly, he couldn't graft the Uzumaki clan's resilience onto others.
But Daniel had no intention of abandoning the Divine Tree. It could bear the Chakra Fruit, after all. So, he decided on an alternative: growing a Divine Tree from scratch. While resource-intensive, it was far better than giving up entirely. Fortunately, he had plenty of resources to fuel such a project.
Using human lives to cultivate the Divine Tree was out of the question for Daniel, but there were alternatives—such as the Danger Beasts in the Akame ga Kill! world and the Sea Kings in the One Piece world.
The Calm Belt was home to countless giant Sea Kings, and they were perfect for nurturing the Divine Tree. Additionally, he could gather resources from the massive beasts on the Dark Continent of the Hunter x Hunter world.
To avoid the influence of the original Divine Tree, Daniel chose not to use the Tailed Beasts directly, utilizing only their chakra.
"Black Zetsu sure has some dedication to his mother. If the opportunity arises, maybe I'll release Ōtsutsuki Kaguya...but only when my strength far surpasses hers."
With this in mind, Daniel began to weave hand seals, blending the nine streams of chakra and infusing them into the Grell Stone, letting it absorb the powerful life energy within.
"Some of them can still be saved; others, it seems, are too far gone." As the chakra was absorbed by the Grell Stone, Daniel inspected the items Haido had left behind.
Some children, who had been turned into armored puppets relatively recently, could potentially be saved with the Grell Stone. However, those whose transformations had set in over too long a period were beyond rescue.
"Save as many as possible." With Haido and his commanders dead, Daniel quickly took control of the puppet soldiers, calling back those who could still be treated and using the Grell Stone to heal them.
While allowing chakra to absorb the energy from the Grell Stone vein, Daniel had already extracted some of the stones for research, which he now used for treatment.
"Yes! It worked!" Seeing a small sapling appear in the now empty center of the Grell Stone vein, Daniel clenched his fist in excitement. Although the cost was high, successfully cultivating a Divine Tree seedling made it all worth it.
"Is the mountain collapsing?" With the sapling in hand, he noticed that the walls of the cave were beginning to crumble. The depletion of the Grell Stone had left the mountain hollow, no longer able to support itself.
With a rumbling crash, the mountain started collapsing as Daniel teleported to Haido's ship. The entire area trembled in a chain reaction.
"If those Grell Stones were used to serve the Shinobi World, they could likely make it prosperous. Minato or the others would probably have chosen that route, to benefit the world."
The Grell Stone's potential was immense. It could accelerate crop growth and livestock maturity. Such capabilities could end famine in the Shinobi World for decades and might even allow them to export surplus to the One Piece world.
But Daniel had no regrets about using the Grell Stone to cultivate a Divine Tree seedling. If the stones were used for public benefit, people might become dependent on them. What would happen once the stones ran out? As the saying goes, luxury is easy to get used to, and hard to give up.
The kingdom that once discovered the Grell Stone ultimately perished because of such dependence. It's like the modern era—people who once lived in comfort often can't bear the thought of losing it.
"This ship's technology is quite impressive. It might help the Shinobi World develop its own ships." Haido had left behind more than just unique technologies; there was even a map charting a route to another continent. People in the Shinobi World rarely ventured overseas due to their lack of naval expertise. While ninjas could walk on water, they couldn't exactly stroll across the entire ocean.
"Power really is the ultimate path. Even though Rain Village no longer focuses on missions, they keep pouring in." After Akatsuki defeated the alliance of the Five Great Ninja Villages, many of the missions once exclusive to Leaf began flowing toward Rain Village.
To merchants, it didn't matter who controlled the Shinobi World as long as they could do business, make money, and enjoy life.
Though missions were abundant for now, once Akatsuki unified the world, the need for mercenary services would decrease. Merchants primarily hired ninjas to protect against bandits, rogue ninjas, and vagrants. Once Akatsuki brought these under control, the demand for hired ninja guards would drop significantly.
These missions were allocated to the young ninjas transferred from the other four great villages to Rain, including the so-called "Konoha 12."
The unification efforts led by Akatsuki aimed to immerse the younger generation in the ideals of Rain Village, fostering a sense of unity across the shinobi world. Naturally, some villages, like Rock and Mist, resisted. But after a visit from Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha, Rock Village swiftly changed its stance.
Since Leaf's fall to Akatsuki, Hashirama appeared to have accepted their goal of unification, joining Akatsuki to secure a voice for Leaf in the new order. Hashirama was wise, in his own way.
"Time for a trip," Daniel murmured. With Madara and Hashirama—both super Kage-level—backing Akatsuki, along with Nagato, Minato, and Kushina, the organization was fortified. Now, Daniel could shift his focus to the moon, where Toneri Ōtsutsuki awaited.
It seemed Toneri was preparing to act.
Toneri belonged to the branch family of Hamura Ōtsutsuki, brother of the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo. As far as Daniel knew, Toneri was the last descendant of this branch family.
"You can breathe here...So that's the difference between an artificial moon and the real one. No wonder Naruto and his friends could fight Toneri here." After arriving on the moon in his Quinjet, Daniel found that the air was breathable, prompting him to remove his helmet.
"That must be Toneri's residence." Scanning the lunar surface from his Quinjet, Daniel soon spotted a massive, mobile fortress. It dwarfed the Angkor Stronghold, given that Hamura's descendants once thrived here, making a fortress seem fitting.
Not wanting to risk any defenses around the castle, Daniel didn't fly his Quinjet directly overhead. While he could afford to lose a jet, avoiding unnecessary losses was preferable.
"Ah, there are defense systems after all." As Daniel approached the castle, a dozen humanoid puppets emerged, causing him to change course and head straight for the main hall. He was here to confront Toneri, not waste time with his puppets.
"More advanced than Sand Village's puppets," he observed. These constructs not only flew but also used ninjutsu, launching fireballs at him when he altered his course.
"Similar to Kazusa's puppets." Toneri's puppets weren't controlled by strings but had a chakra core at their center, much like Kazusa's creations. Daniel destroyed one on the way, confirming his theory.
"If Sand Village acquired this technology, their strength would increase tremendously."
With this thought, Daniel barreled forward, breaking down doors and walls until he finally reached Toneri.
With pale skin, blue-white hair, and empty eye sockets, Toneri was indeed a formidable descendant of Hamura Ōtsutsuki.
Born without eyes due to his potent abilities, Toneri was likely the most gifted in his lineage, with the highest chance of unlocking the Tenseigan if he'd had eyes—a true case of heaven's irony.
"A ninja from Earth. What brings you to Dragon Palace?" Toneri addressed Daniel, his hollow eyes gazing at him as the surrounding puppets ceased their movements.
"I came to talk," Daniel replied calmly.
"Oh? About what?"
"The Shinobi World and whether you can abandon your plans to destroy it." If it could be avoided, Daniel preferred not to fight. Initially, he hadn't intended to confront Toneri just yet, since, in the original storyline, Toneri would act years later.
But Toneri's accelerated timeline was likely due to Daniel's butterfly effect. If Daniel
hadn't been monitoring the moon, it might have been some time before he discovered Toneri's actions.
"Hagoromo made a mistake long ago in creating a flawed world. It's my duty to correct that mistake. For centuries, the Shinobi World has known only war, with no peace."
Unfortunately, Daniel was no Naruto. He couldn't talk Toneri out of his plans. And now Daniel understood why Toneri had moved up his timeline—it was due to the butterfly effect from Akatsuki's conflict with the Five Great Nations.
The split between Hamura's descendants occurred during the conflict. The branch family believed in eradicating Earth, while the main family argued for giving it a chance. Both sides ultimately destroyed each other, leaving Toneri as the last survivor of the branch.
Had the Shinobi World been at peace, Toneri might have hesitated. But the ongoing wars had convinced him it was beyond saving.
"Watching the Shinobi World from your lofty perch, you've come to see yourself as a god?" Daniel's anger flared at Toneri's arrogant intent to destroy and reshape the world. Red Skull had once harbored similar ambitions, and now Toneri was repeating history.
Daniel believed humanity's destiny should be its own decision, not dictated by any self-proclaimed god. Whether people believed in Noah's Ark for salvation or Nüwa's myth of repairing heaven, humanity's right to its path should be preserved.
"You're just a descendant of Hamura Ōtsutsuki! And yet you believe you hold the right to destroy the world? The Shinobi World existed long before your kind arrived. Neither Kaguya, Hagoromo, nor you have any right to reshape it."
Seeing that reason was futile, Daniel stopped holding back and launched into a scathing rebuke, leaving Toneri stunned.
"You…" Toneri stammered, struggling to respond.
"Enough talk. Die!" With that, Daniel unleashed a powerful slash, not holding back his full strength. The force of his sword strike caused the entire palace to tremble.
With a deafening crash, his attack split the grand hall of Dragon Palace in two, leaving a massive fissure across the floor.
"Is he dead?" Daniel wondered, gazing at the dust-filled chasm.
