Spirit Love

Chapter 20: Spirit Love

Amethyst and Solnm were standing on a high cliff on Pillar Island looking out at the whirlpool that surrounded Drousan.

Solnm had caught several fish, crab, a lobster, a few squid and an octopus. He had been having so much fun that Amethyst actually had to make him stop.

Now they stood here watching as their food cooked. Solnm had kebabs of seafood and vegetables marinating and a seafood stew cooking. Amethyst was smoking the octopus and some crabs and marinating the squid to fry later.

"Are you worried about your brother?"

"Only a little." Amethyst sighed.

"Hmm. Then you feel bad for not going?" Solnm paused in thought. "Why are you so nervous about us now? When we met in the cave you seemed very interested in me. I wouldn't have…"

Amethyst abruptly turned and pressed her lips against his. His eyes opened wide and his body stiffened. Slowly his body relaxed and his arms moved up and pulled her into a strong embrace. He pulled her into him as if he wanted her to be a part of him.

A light bloomed in between them for a long moment. Their bodies were one, connected by their soul cores. The light quietly spread out and soon they were both a soothing blue color.

They both refused to release the other becoming lost in the moment. They forgot about everything around them and, for them, they were the last two people within the realm. All life existed in their single point of light.

The cool blue light became fiery red and a bright whit light pulsed at their core where they had connected. It pulsed several times and they finally released. They looked into each other's eyes lost in the previous moment.

For a long time neither one of them spoke. They just stood there. Solnm's arms were around Amethyst's waist and her arms were around his neck.

Someone cleared their throat behind them. Neither turned but they sent their perceptions over and saw Eveline.

"Don't forget you're cooking food over here. I forgot how to cook centuries ago." There was a smile in her voice as she lied. She had already stirred the stew and turned over the smoking seafood. She walked away and noted that neither of them moved an inch.

Eveline was an old spirit. She had died before both Anabel and Allistat were born. She had practiced runic magic and had become very accomplished. She was probably the most powerful runic mage of her time. She had been killed in her prime, before her children had grown. A rival mage had come into her home and used her son against her. She died that day.

She had never told anyone about what had happened to her, no one but Anabel. She stayed with her children until they had grown, subtly helping her son overcome extreme guilt, and trying her hardest to keep them away from true magics.

And then she felt it. A call. She had to go. Oh sure, she still returns to visit her descendants to this day, but she will never completely leave Anabel.

Every spirit being with Anabel came due to the call. Anabel was born a spirit wielder and grew into the warlock she was today.

For Eveline Amethyst and Jolan were her children too. Many who found Anabel when she had felt the same as she did.

She watched from the distant camp as the two stayed clinging together as if they were one entity now. Everything she saw Anabel saw.

Amethyst knew they could not stand there like this forever but she didn't care. She didn't want to let Solnm go. She had never felt this way before and it was something that she didn't want to let go.

When she finally opened her eyes all she could see was his broad chest. She suddenly realized that he was flashing between his human and Ashlan forms. Her heart tightened. Was he in distress? Was he unstable in some way and she hadn't notice?

She attempted to pull back but his arms tightened around her.

"Please give me a moment. It seems that my form has not stabilized and I do not want you to see me in my Ashlan form."

She pulled away from him more forcefully and he gently let her go so she did not overbalance.

When she looked up his head was lowered in embarrassment. She reached out and put her hands on the sides of his face and raised it gently so that their eyes met. His face kept blinking between his two forms. She stared into his blue eyes and then his brown, over and over again as he blinked back and forth.

"I love you in whatever form you take. Our soul cores are connected how can I not love everything you are." She kissed his human form. "I cherish you." She then kissed his Ashlan form "I need you. And I am sorry that I was in denial so long that I hurt both you and my brother."

Solnm's eyes softened and his form began to stabilize as the blinking slowed. "Thank you Am.' He pursed his lips. "I think I need to return to the cave. I do not think I am ready to leave. I may have been a bit too anxious because I found you and I didn't want to lose you. I am…"

Amethyst shook her head and pressed her finger to his lips. "I do not want to lose you either. I will call to my mother. I know both of my parents want to be here for Jolan. She will come to help you. Come, eat."

She sat him down and shot a glance at Eveline who gave a quick nod. She checked the food and cringed when she realized it all almost burned. She piled food onto a plate, filled a bowl full of stew, and placed it all in front of Solnm.

As she put a pot of oil on the fire to heat up to fry the squid she had marinated and placed Solnm's kebabs on the grill she spoke to Slonm. "My mother will be here soon." She jutted her chin toward the camp. "Eveline has already called her."

Solnm nodded as he chew his food voraciously as if he was starved.

Both Anabel and Allistar arrived in the camp with Eveline. Anabel looked toward the high cliffs in the distance and Allistar stared out across the water to Drousan.

Eveline gave them a moment before she began speaking. "The ones you chose to investigate the cave think he may be an Alchemist. The cave has reverted to its original state but it may be a projection layered over its true current form. They just can not get passed the projection."

Anabel nodded as she listened. She exhaled. "We will help him. Marela will go to the cave. She believes he is an Alchemist as well but not like her. She believes he is one of the missing offspring." Eveline slowly rose, anger and concern clear on her face. "We will figure it out. He will not be harmed."

She looked at Allistar and then to Drousan and finally to the whirlpool surrounding Drousan. "He will be okay. This island surfaced for him just as Crims surfaced for Amethyst. It is just that spell weave." She shook her head. Anabel had begun working time magics for Jolan. She wanted to help him advance his knowledge until she could heal his injury and he could absorb all that she learned. When she saw that weave she was intrigued. She did not know anyone who could cast spellwork like this, no one except for herself. Even though she understood the entirety of the weave and its complete purpose she would never have created such a thing.

She adjusted that last thought. She would never have thought to put those particular spells together in one weave.

Marela appeared next to Amethyst and Solnm. Solnm abruptly straightened, the food on his spoon plopping back into his stew.

Amethyst looked up slowly, a frown creasing his brows.

Marela spoke before she could, both of their gazes never leaving Solnm. "Do not worry. I do not hunt abominations."

"Abominations?!"

"I apologize for saying that." Marela looked at Solnm. "I apologize. I should never have called you an abomination." Her gaze turned to Amethyst.

"He is an Alchemist creation. He is how some of my people used to give birth to a new generation. When I was younger I felt they were abominations, many of us did. They were hunted and we believed that they needed to be eradicated. Only five were known to have escaped. Three died naturally, one in battle as a soldier in an ancient realm, and the last one was trapped in a stardust illusion."

Amethyst sat up a bit straighter as if she was preparing to attack. "And now? How do you feel about him now?"

Marela looked at her deeply. "I feel that he is a part of your soul core and that your soul is actually complete again and I could never hurt you."

Amethyst did not respond. She just looked at her like a cat tracking its prey.

"Calm down Amethyst. Marela is older than I am. It is hard for ancient beings to properly hold their tongues."

Both Anabel and Allistar had blinked next to them. Anabel stood next to Solnm and Allistar stood behind Amethyst.

Marela pursed her lips. "Ancient beings? Hmm."

Anabel merely shrugged and sat next to Solnm. She smiled at him.

"Hello Solnm. My name is Anabel. I am Amethyst's mother."
