Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 159: Chapter 160: The Pain of Yamada Seinosuke

Human World

In an abandoned, rain-leaking steel factory, a group led by Shihoin Yoruichi and Urahara Kisuke had gathered.

After Makoto fell unconscious, Urahara Kisuke swiftly completed treating Muguruma Kensei and purged the Hollowfication from Yamada Seinosuke.

Once all the Hollowfied Shinigami were awakened, Kisuke and Yoruichi led them, along with two Kidō experts, through the Shihoin family's Senkaimon into the World of the Living.

What followed was a grueling day and night of covering their tracks, altering routes, and avoiding detection by the Soul Society.

Finally, the group managed to settle down, though nearly everyone was visibly exhausted and starving. Among them, Sarugaki Hiyori, Kisuke's volatile vice-captain, glared at him with frustration and demanded,

"Dammit, Urahara Kisuke, are we just going to keep hiding here like this?"

Kisuke glanced at the transparent barrier surrounding the factory, maintained alternately by Tessai Tsukabishi and Ushōda Hachigen, and replied patiently,

"Everyone needs to endure for a while. Until I develop a new Gigai that perfectly blocks spiritual pressure, our immense spiritual pressure not only impacts the World of the Living but also risks revealing our location to the Soul Society…"

"Then why aren't you working on it already? What are you doing sitting here, you idiot?" Hiyori snapped.

With a helpless shrug, Kisuke explained, "Unfortunately, I have no materials at hand. I need Yoruichi to use the Shihoin family's channels to deliver the necessary supplies and equipment."

At this, the bandaged Muguruma stood abruptly, his expression equally irritable as he growled,

"Forget the Gigai for now. What you really need to explain, Captain Urahara, is... what's with this 'Hollowfication'?"

Hirako Shinji, once a picture of refined elegance akin to a Western nobleman, now fixed Kisuke with a sharp gaze and said,

"Indeed, Captain Urahara, we barely regained consciousness before being forced to flee to the World of the Living with you. We still don't fully understand the situation. You owe us some answers."

Sensing the mounting tension—even Tessai and Hachigen casting questioning glances—Kisuke realized he was facing a crisis of trust. Everything had unfolded too abruptly, with no prior warning.

Thus, Kisuke held nothing back. He even revealed the existence of the Hōgyoku in his possession.

Hirako Shinji, lost in thought, frowned deeply as he asked, "So, you're saying someone in the Seireitei besides you might have a Hōgyoku capable of inducing Hollowfication? Urahara Kisuke, are you sure it's not—"

Before Shinji could finish, Hiyori launched a flying kick, sending him sprawling. Baring her teeth, she defended,

"You bald idiot! Are you doubting Kisuke? Sure, Kisuke can be a sleazebag, but he saved our lives. He didn't do this!"

Clutching his swollen cheek, Shinji glared and retorted, "Damn you, Hiyori! Stop calling me bald! Besides, it's not that we don't trust Kisuke. Otherwise, we wouldn't have followed him to the World of the Living."

After a brief pause, Shinji's expression grew serious as he added, "But I do have someone in mind."

"Who?" The Shinigami collectively tensed.

Shinji spoke slowly and deliberately, "My Vice captain—Aizen Sosuke."

Despite their suspicions, none of the disgraced Shinigami had concrete evidence to pin Aizen as the mastermind. One thing was clear, however: they had no place in the Soul Society anymore. Staying in the World of the Living to regroup and gather strength was their only option.

Meanwhile, Yamada Seinosuke, whose mouth remained sealed shut from prior injuries, could only listen to the discussion in silence, his frustration mounting.

Now, hearing the others discuss plans for long-term exile, his eyes filled with gloom and sorrow.

Rinka Yamada...

Was she crying for him, mourning his absence?

He couldn't return to her side now, not for years, possibly centuries. Imagining her loneliness and despair, Seinosuke felt a pain as sharp as a blade twisting in his heart.

---

On the other side, Makoto recalled his farewell to Rinka. Her rosy cheeks and shining eyes left him with a sense of accomplishment.

Seinosuke might not be dead, but he's as good as gone. If Rinka no longer wept for him, Makoto considered that a victory.

Once again, I, Senju Makoto, have saved a grieving soul!

This altruistic thought filled Makoto's kind heart with satisfaction. Along the way, he'd also gained Kotetsu Isane as an ally.

Rinka's praise of Isane had been genuine. In the original timeline, Isane had replaced Seinosuke as the Fourth Division's Vice-captain and later ascended to captaincy—a testament to her exceptional talent in healing and Kaido.

From the moment Makoto encountered Isane, he'd intended to recruit her as a future ally. Rinka's unexpected assistance had made this easier than anticipated.

Thank you, Yamada Seinosuke. Your wife is truly amazing.

However, as a man mindful of propriety, Makoto knew he couldn't publicly show Rinka too much care, lest rumors spread.

Turning to Isane, who followed closely behind him, Makoto said, "Isane, whenever you have time, please visit Lady Yamada."

"Yes, I will," Isane replied promptly.

"If any man tries to court her…" Makoto paused, realizing he was overstepping.

"Yes?" Isane asked curiously.

"Just... pass along my blessings," Makoto replied with a gentle smile.

"Huh?" Isane blinked, confused.
