Chapter 28: Mini-Calmness

Knock, Knock—"Enter."

I entered the room, and the crowded sound cut off as soon as I closed the door. The room was clean and simple, without any eye-catching accessories. A desk in front of the window and a bookshelf with five books.

"Strange, isn't it? Who could have thought the youngest child of a noble would work as a Guild Master?" said Dalv.

"I thought you volunteered for this job."

"Yes, I volunteered, and I have nothing to be sad about. This job was made for me," he said with a smile.

"Gabriel said I could find you here."

"Oh? You know Gabriel? I never thought that cautious old man would say his name to anyone other than my family. Are you his son, perhaps?"

"No, I just came to know him by coincidence."

"Well, is that so. Moving aside, I want to let you know why you're here. I wanted to personally thank you regarding the undead. I know this was your doing, since after your departure, we noticed the undead decrease in number rapidly. Right now, there are almost no undead in the area, and there are only mages who are cleaning the bones."

"That is a good thing to hear."

Suddenly, Dalv stood and put aside the papers on his desk. He bent and pulled out a bag with a book on top of it from the desk and came in front of me.

"This is the bag of gold coins for your contribution. I know you probably did a lot of work regarding this rampage, but this is the most money I could give you. And lastly, this."

He then handed me the coins and the book.

"Wait, this is a—!"

"This is my personal reward that I prepared for you. The potion you gave me helped a lot of people and saved some lives. I want you to have this as a token of thanks."

"I won't say no to that. [Learn]."

"I hope this skill will be helpful for you and your future as an adventurer. If you want anything else, let me know."

"… If possible, I want to hide the fact that I was the one who resolved the undead situation."

"Why?"

"I'm nothing but a normal E-grader. As an E-grade adventurer, people might think it was a lie and that it would damage my reputation."

Of course, I didn't care about my reputation. If the Demonic Bloodline found out that I was the one who destroyed their plan, they would surely kill me.

"Don't worry. I won't talk about it anymore."

"Thank you."

I left the guild after my talk with the Guild Master.

I decided to have a little break after the difficult [Event]. I stayed at a somewhat good tavern with the money I got and did some little quests in the meantime to get some materials in my hand.

I also collected the [Thousand-year Golden Flower] for the potion shop, to get my card back and fulfill my promise. Despite blooming once every thousand years, Thousand-year Golden Flowers weren't so rare in the world, and one could easily find them if they knew where to look.

The problem with the remaining undead was also resolved easily. The traces of black magic left by the undead caused a lot of problems with monsters, but thankfully adventurers handled that as well.

"Here is your order," said the waiter who worked in the guild.

"Thank you," I said, while receiving my plates of food.

The food in this world was a little bland compared to the food in my past life, and it was reasonable, since the world didn't have access to many spices.

Of course, I wasn't saying that it was bad food. Due to living alone in my apartment, I didn't know how to cook and I only fed myself with the food I bought.

"Maybe I should learn some cooking?" I said to myself.

I quickly ate my food, and as I was leaving to do some more side quests, someone said, "Hey you, come over here."

I walked towards him and said, "What seems to be the problem?"

"Weren't you the guy who asked a group to join for the dungeon cleaning quest?" said the guild assistant.

"Yes, it was me. Did you find anyone?"

About three days ago, I asked for a dungeon quest that I planned to clear a long time ago, but since I was an E-grade adventurer, the guild didn't allow me to enter the dungeon.

Dungeons under the guild's name were protected and couldn't be entered freely, unlike a wild dungeon. That was why most adventurers would risk their lives to clean a dungeon by themselves before reporting it to the guild, since after it got reported, they wouldn't be the only ones who could profit from it.

"Yes, I found a group who want to go to the Rear-river Labyrinth Dungeon that you wanted to visit. They were a member short, so I think you can join them."

"Thank you so much. Where can I find the group?"

"Oh—they just left. You can see them by the door if you leave right now. One of them is a green-haired swordsman and one of them is a long-hat magician with a staff."

"Okay, thanks again."

"You're welcome."

I quickly dashed towards the exit to meet the teammates for the mission. After I got out of the guild's building, I looked for the descriptions that the receptionist gave me, and soon enough I found what I was looking for.

I saw a pack of three adventurers that were talking to each other while walking. One was a 20-year-old looking guy with somewhat free clothing and some knives on his belt. He had long, tied green hair and green eyes.

One of them was a short magician with a big hat covering her face and a staff in her right hand.

And the last one was a seemingly 30-year-old with gray hair and purple eyes. He was carrying both a sword and a crossbow on his belt. He noticed me as I was running toward them and told the others to stop.

"Pant—Hello. Are you guys heading for the labyrinth, right?" I said.

"Um, yes? How can I help you?" said the gray-haired man.

"I'm Action. Not too long ago, I asked the guild if they could find me a party for the labyrinth dungeon. They said you are a person short, so is it possible for me to join you guys?" I said humbly.

"Oh well, that is good. But we are leaving right now. Are you prepared?"

"Yes, yes. I'm prepared." I am always prepared.

They looked at each other and had a wordless communication for about 5 seconds.

"Are you sure you want to come with us? Labyrinth isn't a place for a newbie cleaner. I advise you to make your own party and start to clear the lower-level dungeon first."

"No worries. It might not seem like it, but I have a lot of experience doing solo cleaning. Don't let my appearance deceive you."

"If you want to, then we will agree too. A plus one is always better than no one. Just a quick disclaimer: we won't split the rewards and will distribute them based on contribution, and if you disturb us, we will take action."

"Nothing out of the ordinary to me," I said with a smile.

I was expecting him to be a little more persistent about letting me in, but after I mentioned my experience, he let it slide.

"I'm Max, by the way," said the gray-haired man.

"My name is Leon. Nice to meet you, Action," said the green-haired guy.

"M-my name is Lyra Thist. Happy to meet you, Action," said the magician.

"I'm happy to meet you guys as well."
