Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Sebastian Cornelius
The maids or should I say minions ran over and immediately they arrived I fell on my knees.
That's right, Carla's smug expression turned to fright in an instant.
"Carla please let the maids attend to me, I know you said you want all of them in your chambers but even if it's just one, please I need just one"
My acting skills were not to be trifled with, I even had the tear-filled eyes to achieve perfection, and may I just say, the shock-stricken expression on Carla's face was framable!
She was so dumbstruck that Louis answered in her stead.
"What do you mean, no maids to attend you? Doesn't the Whitemore house have enough maids to cater to the only daughter of the house?"
The maids were sweating buckets already, today their luck have run out and how could I resist fanning the flames I ignited?
"It's not their fault… I'm just not good enough to even get a maid, it's only when Carla calls they come running. They have to obey orders, that's why I'm begging my dear cousin to let them attend to me"
Carla was thrown into a corner now, Louis stared at her with puzzlement. Of course, he was never aware of all her wrongdoings, she prides herself mostly in her ability to be a seamless white lotus.
"Wh-what are you talking about, Lyla? I never told the maids not to attend to you?!" She lost her cool for a second and raised her voice. Carla never raised her voice, acting all prime and pious was her forte. Oops, looks like she popped the bubble.
"I mean… why would I do such a thing? There are tons of maids in the house, why would I need all of them?" She said with a regained composure.
"Is that true? Then I have a confession to make" I stated nervously and everyone perked their ears to hear. Hah! Way to walk right into my trap.
"I believe you, Cousin but that means one of the maids is slandering you!" I pointed an accusing finger at the ten maids standing in line.
"What?" Louis hollered, always to the rescue to defend his lover. I have to applaud him for his dedication.
"What do you mean, Lyla?" Carla asked with a more subtle tone, now she was fully interested in what I had to say because the tables had turned and she was the one being falsely accused.
"The truth is, I heard some maids saying you ordered for my food to be poisoned last night but I didn't believe it. I knew you could never do such a thing so I ate the food anyway but it was indeed poisoned and I puked my guts out. I wasn't even changed out of my clothes as you can see. No one attended to me. So it seems the maids are plotting to use your name to harm me, Carla"
"What?! How dare they? This is unacceptable! Sir Regulus must hear of this at once!"
Louis was all for the shouting and yelling while the maids knelt down pleading, I didn't spare anyone a glance and watched Carla's reaction carefully.
She's a wise one, she knows the only way out is to cut her losses and fire all these servants, or else Louis would really be suspicious of her standing in this situation.
"No, don't tell Sir Regulus, Carla might get into trouble if Father finds out. All I'm asking for is a maid to attend to me, that's all"
"What do you mean? Do these imbeciles attend to you after trying to poison you? They might even kill you! And why are you begging on your knees… stand up"
It was as if a bell went out in Carla's head and she ran over to help me like the 'Good Samaritan' she is.
"Send for the guards"
At her command, the butler returned with the guards and she gave the wailing servants one last look before commanding.
"Throw them out, make sure they never step foot in House Whitemore!"
And so the guards dragged them all out just as I expected. Carla would throw anyone under the bus to save her skin. It doesn't matter who it was, an ally or a foe, she was just that selfish and it was this selfishness I exploited to get rid of those tramps.
At the very least, I shouldn't die of poison before I get my revenge. Although I didn't get rid of all of them, this is a start and a warning to the rest of them!
"I'll leave you two alone, I need to freshen up. Thank you, cousin, for sending them away. It means a lot to me" I beamed a blissful smile and Carla reciprocated with her usual charming reticence and I didn't turn back as I walked to my room.
I need to get my head straight! I took my bath and had breakfast. I enjoyed it even though I spent over an hour carefully savoring the taste and aroma.
Who knew food was such a blessing? A blessing I had taken for granted! But never again, I won't starve myself just because I'm afraid the food might be poisoned. Thanks to the trauma I look almost malnourished and skinnier than my age-mates.
I had some rest and my alarm woke me up. It was exactly 8 pm so I got dressed and headed out. The good thing about being a daughter that is not acknowledged is that you're treated like an invisible being and only when you're needed your existence suddenly matters.
At least, no one gets to stop me from leaving the house when I want to, I just never did in the past.
I hailed a cab and finally removed my hood not that my appearance would ring a bell in anybody's head. No one knows what the daughter of the Whitemore family looks like. Many rumors say I'm sick and bedridden, and I have an inkling feeling about who spread such rumors.
Who knows, maybe that's why I really ended up getting bedridden!
"We're here ma'am"
"Ah, thanks" I paid the fare and got down.
If I told someone what I was doing here, they would probably gag in bafflement, I mean, even I couldn't believe myself.
I stood at the crossroads by this late hour and did nothing but wait for a certain car to pass by. Not just any car but Sebastian Cornelius' limited edition Maybach!
And what's my plan? You might ask.
It's simple, I want to throw myself on the road. You know, the typical scene in movies where the car stops and the girl is attended to by the rich man.
How crazy is that?! Well, I don't have a freaking choice! This is the only way I can meet Sebastian Cornelius!
I checked my time and as unbelievable as it sounds I actually spotted the car approaching my terminal.
"This is my chance" I reassured myself with a deep sigh.
The car was coming with incredible speed and I broke out in cold sweat but I didn't relent. There is no result without risk!
The final straw came and I voiced before diving right into the road.
"Here goes nothing!"
