Chapter 434: Chapter 434: Four Thousand Years Later, the True and False Time Dragons
After roaming the galaxy for a few days and admiring the magnificent cosmic rivers of stars, Garon and Yuna returned to the Dragon Court plane.
Soon after arriving at the Dragon Court and entering the depths of the Eternal Hall's dragon nest, Yuna quickly fell into a deep sleep to digest the vast energy she had absorbed from the star core. This energy, once fully assimilated, would mark the moment Yuna officially breaks through to the demi-god level, becoming a creature of weak divine power.
The specific duration of this process was unclear to both Garon and Yuna; they could only estimate that it would take at least several years.
When Garon was still a young dragon, sleeping for a year was considered exceedingly long. Most of the time, dragons slept for a few weeks or months. However, as time passed and they matured physically, Garon and Yuna now typically slept for years unless disturbed or unwilling to sleep that long.
Yuna had a habit of burying herself under treasures, sleeping at the bottom of the dragon nest. Above her, the silver dragon lay coiled on layers of gold and jewels, his eyes half-closed, his body rising and falling with even, deep breaths.
Although it seemed like he was sleeping, Garon's mind was actually active, constructing and simulating various experimental schemes, trying to alter the fundamental principles of resonance casting.
Despite multiple attempts, Garon wasn't satisfied with the progress. The most efficient of his simulated improvements achieved only about fifty percent of the original resonance casting effect.
After changing the Alpha bloodline to the true dragon bloodline, not only did the effect of the resonance casting not improve, but it even declined slightly, which Garon could accept. However, the harsh reality was a significant drop in effectiveness, rendering it hardly a divine skill anymore.
Time passed, and the silver dragon slowly opened his eyes, revealing a hint of helplessness.
"Ah, talent for magical creation, I am still lacking."
How does a spellcaster become legendary, step into the demi-god level, or even ascend to godhood? A wise man once said it requires ninety-nine percent effort and one percent talent. However, few understand that this one percent of talent far outweighs the ninety-nine percent of effort.
Although unsuccessful in his attempts, Garon was not discouraged. After all, he was a Time Dragon, not a Magic Dragon. Magic was just a tool for Garon, and as he grew stronger and his understanding of the power of time deepened, magic became less significant in his array of abilities.
"Let's visit an alternate timespace."
"Once resonance casting is successful, if I can pass it to the Dragonkind through divine Garon, it could help stabilize his newly elevated divine status."
Garon thought to himself. Having personally witnessed the wizards of the Alpha Tia Empire create miracles through resonance casting, Garon was still very excited about its potential future performance.
Moreover, the Dragonkind was more united than ever, making it the perfect time to employ resonance casting. Before the War of Glory, even if resonance casting was available, Garon suspected that no dragon type other than metallic dragons would have wanted to use it.
Whether resonance casting could become a divine authority, further solidifying divine Garon's godhood, was still uncertain for Garon.
In the current multiverse, it is challenging for deities to elevate their status. Worlds rich in intelligent life are mostly divided among the gods, and the belief system is generally stable. Unless there is a major event like the War of Glory, it is difficult for any deity to break through their current level.
Aside from faith, if deities want to become stronger and more omnipotent, they need to create something unique and widely recognized and used by their followers. Sincere recognition and widespread use can potentially form a new divine authority.
A divine authority, simply put, is a god's unique skill, and having more is always better.
Inside the quiet dragon nest, the silver dragon slowly stood up, then stretched his broad wings and limbered up his body.
The difference in the flow of time between the Feyrun alternate timespace Garon visited and the main timeline was significant, allowing him to travel there without much concern.
Even if he stayed in Feyrun for a century, only a brief time would pass in the main timeline, preventing any drastic, unacceptable changes from occurring.
"It must have been many years since I last left Feyrun. I wonder if my disciple of death has successfully wooed the first goddess of magic."
Thinking of the subtle romantic relationship between Karsus and Mystra, Garon couldn't help but grin, a mischievous smile spreading across his dragon face.
With that thought, Garon took action. The power of time released from within the silver dragon wove into the river of time, bringing the gently flowing river to a halt and forming a stable, intangible temporal gate in front of him.
After ascending to weak divine power, Garon could stabilize the temporal gate with his own power. The Imaskarcana artifact, previously needed to stabilize the structure of the gate, was no longer necessary.
Using the tranquil valley where he had resided and initially taught Karsus magical knowledge as an anchor point, Garon locked onto the Feyrun alternate timespace and stepped through the temporal gate.
As ripples spread, the silver dragon's figure vanished from the dragon nest.
In Feyrun, in a deep gorge bathed in soft sunlight, ancient trees stood scattered, their leaves rustling in the breeze. At one end of the gorge, a waterfall cascaded down, the rushing water colliding with the rocks below with a thunderous roar.
Originating from the waterfall, a winding stream flowed through the gorge, surrounded by lush grass and fragrant flowers.
Occasionally, agile deer and cautious rabbits came here to drink, while ferocious predators and deadly magical creatures lurked, waiting for an opportunity.
At the deepest part of the gorge stood a mage's tower.
A young-looking female spellcaster in a white robe was scrutinizing the land around her tower, her eyes glowing with magic as she meticulously scanned the area.
As a leaf spiraled towards her, its normally smooth descent became erratic when it passed a certain spot—sometimes spinning rapidly, sometimes moving so slowly it seemed to crawl, and even pausing mid-air.
Observing this, the spellcaster's eyes lit up, and she hurried over.
Closing her eyes, she radiated bright magical light, her mental energy sweeping through the space like radar. After a few seconds, she opened her eyes, her expression one of devotion as she pinpointed the exact coordinates of the temporal disturbance and began to practice the time-related divine spells she had mastered.
Meanwhile, she murmured softly, reciting a fervent and devoted church prayer as she had done in days past.
"Please hear the call of your humble servant.
Lord of the Upper Dragons.
The Sole Sovereign of the Realms.
Source of Change, Master of Time and Space, Wing of Calamity, Immortal Dragon, Lord of the Colorless River, Physical Embodiment of Eternal Time, Master of Death, Manifestation of the Unchanging River of Everything, Traveler through Time, Lord of Destiny, Protector and Destroyer of the Empire.
The all-encompassing Eternal Dragon.
Your loyal, humble servant calls out, yearns, and prays for your response."
Clearly, she was not just a spellcaster but also a senior member of the Time Dragon Church.
Although she received no tangible response, the spellcaster tirelessly prayed over and over again.
After reciting her prayer once more, she prepared to conclude her daily devotion.
But just then.
The previously bright sky suddenly darkened, overshadowed by something immense.
It was as if a colossal entity had appeared in the sky.
The spellcaster paused, a wary expression on her face, and she prepared her spells while looking up.
In her view was a silver dragon materializing from nothingness, its enormous body taking shape.
The dragon's colossal body was mountainous, its wings spread wide enough to obscure the sun, and its mere presence exuded an undeniable majesty.
Several black scales in a ring pattern adorned the dragon's body.
Three pairs of horns twisted backward, forming a crown-like appearance.
Seeing this, the spellcaster immediately widened her eyes, fell to her knees, her eyes brimming with tears of excitement as her body trembled uncontrollably.
Garon, just arriving in the gorge, noticed this unusual spellcaster.
Glancing down, his gaze swept over her body.
"Hmm? There's a power similar yet different to mine within her."
"Let me think... When I left Feyrun, I bestowed some time power to a church."
"That church... Yes, I remember it was called the Church of the Time Dragon."
"It's been almost four thousand years since I last left; it's surprising that the Church of the Time Dragon still exists."
Garon thought silently.
Looking down at the spellcaster kneeling below, he considered for a moment before speaking in a deep, resonant voice: "Mortal, lift your head and tell me your name and identity."
The spellcaster trembled, raised her head, and showed an excited yet flushed face.
"My Lord, the great Eternal Dragon."
"My name is Amber, and I am a Time Emissary who tirelessly pursues your footsteps."
Hearing Amber's response, Garon pondered for a while, somewhat puzzled.
"The amount of time power I gave to the first members of the Church of the Time Dragon wasn't much; logically, it shouldn't have lasted this long."
"Moreover, after I returned to the main timeline, the connection with the faith in the alternate timespace was severed."
Garon had shown his true form and bestowed time power on the Church of the Time Dragon to test whether he could harvest faith from beings in an alternate timespace. The result was that when he
returned to the main timeline, the chain of faith in the alternate timespace immediately disappeared.
Perhaps Garon's level wasn't high enough to sense faith across timespaces, or perhaps the faith of his followers wasn't devout enough to bridge the gap.
But regardless, Garon had indeed had no ties with the Church of the Time Dragon since returning to the main timeline.
Logically, the church should have dissolved by now since the being they worshiped hadn't responded for a full four thousand years. Yet, it still existed, and even its members were following his tracks, discovering the gorge he once lived in.
"The Church of the Time Dragon still exists after nearly four thousand years."
"And this spellcaster has a trace of energy similar to mine."
"Additionally, if the Church of the Time Dragon still existed, I should have been able to detect their faith, but that wasn't the case."
Garon hadn't felt any faith when he arrived here.
Only after Amber recognized him did a thread representing her faith appear.
Normally, this shouldn't have been the case.
"Interesting, very interesting."
Garon sensed something amiss.
The silver dragon's faceplate revealed a compelling aura of authority as he gazed down at the spellcaster in his shadow, calmly stating, "I have been away from this world for four thousand years and have not responded to any prayers."
"Tell me, why do you still believe in my existence?"
The spellcaster looked confused.
"My Lord, how could you have not responded?"
"Fifty years ago, when I was praying to you, I was fortunate enough to hear your teachings. I have remembered that day ever since, only death could make me forget."
"Many other Time Emissaries like me have had similar experiences."
As she spoke, the spellcaster's gaze shifted slightly, a hint of wariness appearing on her devout face.
Being a spellcaster close to legendary status, her caution was significant. Now she began to doubt whether Garon was genuine.
Observing his follower's changing expressions, Garon saw through her thoughts and knew her words were true.
The silver dragon's gaze narrowed, his expression turning cold.
From his analysis of the situation, millions of possibilities flashed through Garon's mind, and he locked onto the most likely one.
"It seems a false Eternal Dragon has taken over my church."
"I want to see who is impersonating me."
This false Eternal Dragon had allowed the Church of the Time Dragon, which should have perished, to persist to this day.
But as far as Garon was concerned, what belonged to him, even if it was destined to perish, should not be occupied by other beings.
Even if he completely didn't need it, Garon could choose to bestow it at his discretion, but he would not allow others to secretly steal it.
