Pokemon : I Am A Breeder/Champion

Chapter 56: 53. High school students(Part 2)

"I thought you wouldn't come, so I stored it in the warehouse," Evan said casually.

"Gardevoir, Gallade, do me a favor," he continued, raising his voice slightly. "Bring out those energy cubes."

In the next room, Gardevoir, who was happily munching on an energy cube, heard Evan's call. Without hesitation, both Gardevoir and Gallade emerged, still chewing on the cubes.

Violet's expression shifted noticeably the moment she saw the two Pokémon. Her eyes sparkled with amazement.

"Are these your Pokémon?" Violet asked, her gaze fixed on them.

Evan blinked in confusion at her reaction. "Yes, they're mine. Why?"

Violet could barely contain her astonishment. She could immediately sense the power radiating from the pair. One was at the Elite level, and the other was on the verge of breaking into the championship tier. Moreover, the Gardevoir was Shiny—a rare find indeed.

"Two Shiny Pokémon?" Violet muttered to herself, incredulous. "What kind of luck is this?"

Evan, noticing her reaction, tilted his head. "You don't recognize Gardevoir? Didn't Sophia mention them to you?"

Violet's brow furrowed, genuinely puzzled. "Sophia? What does this have to do with her?"

It dawned on Evan that Sophia likely never mentioned Gardevoir or Gallade to Violet. Suppressing a chuckle, he decided to clarify. "Sophia's Ralts? She got it from my Gardevoir and Gallade."

"Ah, that makes sense now," Violet said, nodding in realization. "She never told me about this."

Shrugging off the topic, Violet's expression suddenly turned serious. She locked eyes with Evan. "Do you want to battle me?"

Caught off guard by the abrupt challenge, Evan blinked in surprise. "What?"

"I want to battle you," Violet repeated firmly.

"Why?" Evan asked, still perplexed.

Violet explained, "Lately, I've been looking for strong opponents to spar with. Your Gallade and Gardevoir are clearly powerful. Battling them would be a great challenge."

Evan shook his head. "No thanks. I'm not a Trainer. I don't want to battle."

Violet wasn't deterred. Her lips curled into a sly smile as she made her pitch. "I'll pay you."

Evan sighed. "Still not interested."

"200,000 Pokédollars per match," Violet offered.

That caught Evan's attention. "200,000 per match?" he repeated, skeptical but intrigued.

"That's right," Violet confirmed. "Just one match."

After a moment of contemplation, Evan relented. "Fine. One match won't hurt."

"Great!" Violet said, her excitement evident. "I'll send the payment after the match. Make sure you're ready!"

Satisfied, she took the energy cubes she had come for and left, visibly eager for the next day's battle.

As Violet disappeared into the distance, Evan turned to Gallade. "Gallade, get some rest tonight," he said with a grin. "We've got a big fight tomorrow. And who knows? This might be your chance to reach the championship level."

Evan couldn't help but smile to himself. Violet wants to train with Gallade, so why not make the most of it? Not only was it a chance for Gallade to gain valuable experience, but Evan could also make some money in the process. Win-win, he thought.

Gallade, on the other hand, looked at Evan with a puzzled expression. Fighting? The sudden declaration left it momentarily confused. Beside it, Gardevoir tilted her head, curiosity evident in her eyes.

Evan, noticing their reactions, chuckled. "Don't look at me like that. Let me explain."

He recounted the events from earlier. "You saw that girl, Violet, just now, right? She wants to have a battle with you tomorrow. Her Pokémon are no joke, though. She's got a Champion-level Metagross, and her other Pokémon are at the Elite level. It's not going to be easy."

Gallade's eyes narrowed, and its posture stiffened with resolve. Evan continued, "I don't know which Pokémon she'll use, but if it's Metagross, the fight will be a tough one. You need to be prepared."

Gallade absorbed the information silently before nodding. "I understand," it said with a serious expression. The spark of determination in its eyes was undeniable. It could feel its fighting spirit rising. This was the kind of challenge it had been waiting for—a chance to finally break through its limits.

Seeing Gallade's resolve, Evan smiled approvingly and patted its shoulder. "Good. Let's make this count."

As the day wound down, Evan wrapped up work at his breeding house. Despite being the boss, he had no intention of working overtime. Once Isla and the others finished tidying up, they all headed to the orphanage for dinner.

During the meal, Aunt Jenn shared the day's turnover results. Evan listened attentively, a soft smile spreading across his face.

"Good work," he said warmly. "Let's put all the profits back into the orphanage. Don't worry about telling me the details—just use the funds to improve things here. Fix what needs fixing, buy what's needed, and focus on making life better for everyone. That's what matters most."

Aunt Jenn nodded in agreement, her heart warmed by Evan's thoughtfulness. She and the other caretakers deeply cared for the children in the orphanage, treating them as their own. With Evan's support, she knew the orphanage would only continue to thrive.

After dinner, Evan returned to his breeding house to rest. The next morning came peacefully, with no interruptions. Evan woke naturally, refreshed and ready for the day. With Pikachu and Charmander by his side, he headed downstairs.

At the counter, Isla was already assisting two young ladies who had come to pick up their orders from the previous day. Their excitement was palpable as they watched their Pokémon enjoy the energy cubes Evan had prepared. The Pokémon devoured the treats with clear delight, wagging tails and happy cries filling the room.

The young women, eager to stock up, were busy transferring cubes into their space backpacks. Seeing the sheer quantity, they joked that they might need a vehicle next time to carry everything.

When they noticed Evan, they greeted him warmly. "Boss Evan!" one of them exclaimed with a bright smile. "The energy cubes you made are incredible! Our Pokémon absolutely love them."

The other chimed in, "Thank you so much!"

Evan smiled warmly at the two high school students. "Welcome," he said, his tone light. "I'm glad you enjoyed the energy cubes. It's always great to see happy customers."

The two young women beamed and began chatting with Evan, sharing amusing stories about their school life. Their cheerful demeanor was infectious, and Evan didn't mind engaging with them. However, it didn't take long for their attention to shift to Pikachu and Charmander, their eyes lingering on the two Pokémon.

Pikachu and Charmander, familiar with this kind of attention from the children at the orphanage, immediately picked up on the signs. They exchanged a quick glance before retreating to the backyard, their escape swift and decisive.

The two high schoolers watched them go with visible disappointment. One of them, the owner of an Eevee, finally spoke up. "Boss Evan, are Pikachu and Charmander fostered Pokémon?" she asked, her curiosity evident.

Evan chuckled softly. He didn't recall her name but decided it didn't matter for now. "No, they're my Pokémon," he explained. "Pikachu came to my orchard and kept sneaking food, so I ended up catching him. Charmander, though, is my starter Pokémon."

He paused, smiling fondly as he added, "Charmander was the first Pokémon egg I received—it was a gift from my mentor."

The two girls looked stunned. The one with a Snivy furrowed her brow, trying to piece things together. "Wait, Boss Evan," she asked hesitantly, "don't you also have a Gallade? Isn't it your starter Pokémon? Charmander seems... pretty young."

Evan nodded, not hiding anything. "Gallade is mine too, but it wasn't my starter. Charmander came first, though it hatched just recently. Let me explain," he said patiently.

"I graduated from college not long ago. My mentor gave me a Pokémon egg, which hatched into Charmander. Later, I caught a Pichu, which eventually evolved into Pikachu. Then I caught another Pokémon before Gallade joined my team. It's been a gradual process."

The two high schoolers stared at him in disbelief. One finally muttered, "Wait, breeders can catch Pokémon too? Without battling?"

Their confusion was apparent, but Evan didn't mind. Their puzzled expressions amused him. These young trainers, he thought, were still learning the ropes.

Just as Evan was enjoying the moment, a familiar voice called out from the doorway, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Evan! Are you awake?"

He turned to see Violet entering the room, dressed casually. Following close behind her was Sophia, who greeted him with a cheerful "Good morning!"

"You're here early," Evan said, standing to welcome them. "Good morning, Violet, Sophia."

The two women entered and quickly noticed the high schoolers chatting with Evan. Sophia, ever observant, greeted them politely. "Good morning," she said. "Are you friends of Evan?"

Evan nodded in confirmation, but the two high schoolers suddenly looked between Violet and Sophia with wide, curious eyes. Their thoughts ran wild as they whispered to each other. Two beautiful women coming to see Evan this early? Could they be... rivals? Is this the start of a love triangle?

The scene had turned unexpectedly dramatic in their minds. They exchanged gossip-filled glances, intrigued by what they imagined might unfold next.

Unbothered by their reactions, Evan simply sighed and motioned for everyone to take a seat. It seemed like it was going to be another lively morning.

Violet nodded curtly to the two high school students as a greeting, then turned to Evan with a determined expression. "Let's go. Time to battle."

Her words carried an urgency that couldn't be missed—she was ready to fight right then and there.

Evan rolled his eyes. "Can't it wait until I finish breakfast?" he said dryly. "You all just sit tight for a bit. I won't take long."

Without waiting for her response, Evan waved casually and made his way to the orphanage. Skipping breakfast for a battle? Not a chance.

Violet sighed in frustration, clearly impatient, while Sophia chuckled softly at her expense. Turning to the high school students, Sophia introduced herself warmly. "Hello, I'm Sophia," she said with a kind smile. "Are you guests of Evan Senior? Are you here to order energy cubes or to foster Pokémon?"

Her gentle demeanor immediately put the two students at ease. They eagerly began chatting, chirping about their school life, their Pokémon, and their reason for visiting. Sophia listened attentively, nodding along.

After hearing their stories, she said, "Then you've really come to the right place. Evan Senior's energy cubes are incredible. If not for the certification process, he'd already be recognized as a master breeder."

She gave a thumbs up as she added, "The cubes made by a master breeder are incredibly valuable. Evan Senior's craftsmanship is absolutely top-tier."

Violet, still waiting for Evan, nodded in agreement. "That's true," she said, her arms crossed. "He's the real deal."

The high schoolers exchanged wide-eyed glances, amazed. "A college student this powerful?" one of them whispered. "That's unbelievable!"

The conversation naturally shifted to curiosity about Evan and Violet. One of the students finally asked hesitantly, "Um, sister, are you here to fight the boss?"

Violet smirked. "That's right. We're here for a battle. If you're interested, feel free to watch. You might even learn something. But make sure to keep a safe distance," she warned.

The two students' eyes lit up with excitement. "Can we call our classmates?" one of them asked eagerly. "They'd love to watch a Pokémon battle!"

Violet shrugged. "Sure. The more, the merrier. I'm sure Evan won't mind."

Overjoyed, the two high schoolers immediately began dialing their classmates, inviting everyone at their summer camp—even the teacher who was supervising them. The promise of a live Pokémon battle was too good to resist. Within minutes, a crowd of students and their teacher gathered at Evan's breeding house, buzzing with anticipation.

When Evan returned from breakfast, he was startled to see a large group of high school students gathered at his doorstep. His first thought was business-related. Did these students all come to place orders for energy cubes? He could already imagine the profits.

Hurrying toward the group, Evan opened his mouth to greet them, but Violet stepped out to cut him off. "Evan," she called, her tone firm. "Let's get started. These people are here as spectators. You don't mind, right?"

Evan blinked in confusion, his dreams of a big payday abruptly shattered. Not here to buy anything? Just here to watch a battle? His disappointment was palpable. He couldn't help but think, This is a loss of hundreds of thousands, if not more!

After silently grumbling to himself for a moment, he let out a resigned sigh. "Fine," he said finally. At least there's 200,000 on the line for this battle—and a chance for Gallade to break through.

Straightening up, he called out loudly, "Gallade! Come out!"

In an instant, Gallade appeared beside Evan using Teleport, its elegant form radiating an intense presence. The gathered students gasped audibly, their excitement reaching new heights. Even the supervising teacher's eyes widened as they locked onto Gallade.

This Gallade... The teacher's pupils constricted as a wave of pressure settled over him. As an Elite Trainer himself, he could feel the overwhelming strength Gallade exuded. Just standing here is enough to make me nervous. Who is this Evan?

The murmurs of awe from the crowd grew louder as Gallade stood calmly by Evan, awaiting his instructions.
