Chapter 41: Clefairy and the Cream Cake

Chingling, the pre-evolved form of Chimecho.

Compared to Pokémon like Aggron and Flygon, a Pokémon like Chimecho is not very skilled in Pokémon battles. Over thousands of years of coexistence, they have completely integrated into human life. Chimecho like to use the suction cup on their heads to hang from tree branches or the eaves of houses. As soon as the hot season arrives, they will fly about energetically, looking just like a string of wind chimes. When a clear breeze blows past, Chimecho will emit a crisp, pleasant, and beautiful chime.

This is how Chimecho has integrated into human life. They hang from the eaves like wind chimes, and people believe that the sound of a Chimecho will bring them happiness and good luck. In the anime, James from Team Rocket had a Chimecho.

Kenji looked at this egg. If nothing unexpected happened, the Chimecho egg would probably be hard to sell for the time being.

"...Oh well, if I can't sell it, I'll just raise it myself," Kenji thought. The eaves of the breeding center were currently missing an occupant, a spot he could save for Chimecho.

Next was the Castform, which was due to hatch in three days. Kenji had a great use for this Pokémon. With it, the herb garden could achieve automated watering.

Kenji put down the egg, got up, and went downstairs to check on the herb garden. The batch of herbs, vegetables, and fruits he had planted last time were already beginning to sprout under Oddish's meticulous care. The small seedlings were neat and uniform in the furrows, and their growth was very encouraging.

The nearby berry trees had borne another batch of fruit. Kenji called Bewear over, took out a basket, and picked all of them. The basket was filled to the brim with plump, juicy berries. Kenji brought them back to the house and divided them into two parts. One part would be used to make juice to feed the Pokémon, and the other part he planned to use to make Pokéblocks.

In the evening, after dinner, Kenji sat with all the Pokémon in the lobby to watch TV. A news program was playing, showing recent major events in the Hoenn region, such as a mass outbreak of wild Pokémon in a certain area, and an incident where wild Pokémon near a certain city lost their senses and attacked citizens. In addition, it would occasionally broadcast some news about other regions. It had been nearly two hundred years since the founding of the Pokémon League, and over the years, the various regions had gradually strengthened their connections.

Kenji watched with great interest, and the group of Pokémon beside him were also very interested in this talking, glowing box. Watching TV was something they had never experienced in their Pokémon lives before.

"Clefairy?!"

When a Pokémon appeared on the TV, a Clefairy couldn't help but let out a cry of surprise. Was that Pokémon trapped in that little box? Another Clefairy picked up a broom and was about to charge forward and smash the TV, wanting to rescue the trapped Pokémon from inside.

"!!!"

Kenji was horrified and quickly stopped it. "Stop!"

"Clefairy?" The Clefairy stopped and looked back, its face full of confusion.

"Put the broom down first. The Pokémon inside is just a recording. There are no Pokémon trapped in there!" Kenji explained, taking the opportunity to introduce the device to the Pokémon. "This is a television."

"Woof-whim?" A television? What's a television?

"It's a machine that can play videos." Kenji didn't quite know how else to explain it, so he picked up the remote control and started changing the channels. Soon, the screen switched to a cooking show.

On the screen, a beautiful young girl wearing a chef's hat was making a sweet, soft cream cake with an Alcremie. The pink background, the white, soft cream that looked like clouds, paired with a few strawberries, looked both healing and tempting.

The Clefairy were almost instantly captivated by the strawberry cream cake on the TV.

"Clefairy!"

Some Clefairy even began to swallow their saliva. That thing called a cream cake looked so delicious!

Kenji: "..."

He wouldn't mind making one for this group of Clefairy to try, but he didn't have any eggs or cream at home. As the saying goes, even the cleverest housewife can't cook without rice. However, there was a dessert shop in Fallarbor Town. He could go buy one later for the Pokémon at the breeding center to try.

The thought that Bewear, Growlithe, the Clefairy, and Oddish had probably never eaten a cream cake before made Kenji's heart ache with sympathy, as if he owed them something. Tomorrow, I must go to Fallarbor Town and buy a bunch of cream cakes for the family to try!

When Kenji told his plan to the group of Pokémon, he was immediately met with a round of cheers.

"Clefairy~!"

They looked just like little children. Kenji couldn't help but smile. "Don't you worry."

The Clefairy continued to watch the food program in front of them. Growlithe, Oddish, and Bewear were also very interested in the desserts on screen.

Outside the window, a light rain had started to fall, pattering against the roof of the breeding center. On this rainy night, Kenji and his Pokémon huddled together on the sofa, watching TV. He looked around at the group of Pokémon beside him, feeling a wave of emotion. Who hadn't fantasized about living with Pokémon when they were a child watching the show? And now, that fantasy had become a reality.

This feeling... it was amazing!

The next morning, the light rain continued, not suitable for going out. Looking at the damp air outside the window, Kenji didn't want to leave and decided to wait until the rain stopped before going to Fallarbor Town to buy the cream cakes.

However, just because he didn't want to go out didn't mean others wouldn't. Early in the morning, Steven, having returned from Mossdeep City to fulfill his promise, knocked on the door of the breeding center.

His hair was soaked by the rain, plastered wetly to his forehead, and his clothes were marked with obvious water stains. Seeing who it was, Kenji was taken aback.

Steven walked in, came to the counter, then took off his backpack and began to take out Moon Stones one by one.

The elegant, noble young master spoke. "Our promise is now fulfilled."

Steven had brought a total of twenty Moon Stones. Not only was it enough for all the Clefairy at the breeding center to evolve into Clefable, but there were even eight left over. He was incredibly generous.

"This is too many..." Kenji said, surprised.

Steven, however, just smiled slightly. "These Moon Stones are far less precious than the meteorite you gave me. In addition, as a thank you for your trust, please accept this extra gift."

With that, Steven took out another stone from his pocket. It was a beautiful stone, shaped like a marble, with peculiar patterns inside.

Kenji subconsciously looked at the stone. In the next second, the stone's information appeared in his mind.

[Dragoniteite: A wondrous Mega Stone that allows a Dragonite to Mega Evolve in battle when holding it.]
