Chapter 56: A Call from Ash!
After catching new Pokémon—including two newly hatched ones and one that was injured—Ash and his friends hurried to the nearest Pokémon Center as the sun began to set. They needed to ensure their new team members were in good health, and time was of the essence. Just before the golden hues of dusk faded into night, they arrived.
Inside, Nurse Joy greeted them warmly, as always. "Good evening! How can I help you today?" she asked with a cheerful smile.
Ash stepped forward. "Nurse Joy, we have a few Pokémon that need your attention. Two are newly hatched, and one is injured. Could you please take a look at them?"
"Of course! Please place their Poké Balls on this tray, and I'll get started right away," Nurse Joy replied. Ash handed over the Poké Balls, and she wheeled them into the examination room.
As they waited, Ash checks his balance. His face fell. A little over 20,000 PokéCoins remained—a decent amount, but not enough for the ambitious plans he was beginning to formulate. He clenched his fists, determination burning in his eyes. He needed a strategy to earn more money, and fast.
A Plan Begins to Form
While Brock, Misty, and May chatted on a nearby couch, Ash began brainstorming. Several ideas swirled in his mind, but two stood out.
First, he considered contacting Elesa, the Electric-type Gym Leader from Nimbasa City, with an idea he'd been toying with for a while: creating Pokémon-themed music to inspire trainers around the world. Elesa's flair for entertainment and her connections in the industry made her the perfect collaborator.
Second, Ash thought about the Fairy type. While the type wasn't officially recognized yet, his research and intuition from the knowledge he carried over from his previous world confirmed its existence. If revealed properly, this discovery could revolutionize Pokémon battling and research. However, Ash wasn't interested in fame or recognition for himself—he knew that would draw unwanted attention from powerful leagues and organizations. Instead, he decided to entrust this revelation to someone he deeply respected: Professor Oak.
Ash nodded to himself, feeling more confident. He decided to work on both ideas simultaneously, starting with the Fairy-type revelation.
The Writing Process
Under the curious gazes of Misty, May, and Brock, Ash borrowed a computer from Nurse Joy.
"Ash, what are you doing? Are you contacting someone?" Misty asked, puzzled by his sudden determination.
"Not sure what he's up to…" May added, leaning over to peek at the screen.
Ash didn't answer. Instead, he opened a document and began typing furiously. At the top of the page, he wrote:
"Goal: Pokémon Master!"
He paused for a moment, then smiled and began typing lyrics for a song that encapsulated his journey:
"I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause..."
Standing behind him, Brock raised an eyebrow. "Is Ash… writing a song?"
Misty looked surprised. "A song? That doesn't seem like him."
May chuckled. "It's about Pikachu! Of course, it's about him."
"Pika pika!" Pikachu exclaimed, bouncing with excitement.
For the next three hours, Ash worked tirelessly. Drawing on his memories from his past world, he composed lyrics, added musical notations, and even sketched out ideas for a melody. When he finally finished, he leaned back with a satisfied grin.
He turned to his friends and explained, "I'm planning to collaborate with Elesa on this. Pokémon-themed music could inspire trainers everywhere."
Misty blinked in surprise. "Ash, I never knew you were into music."
"Yeah, and it's actually pretty good!" May added, giving him a thumbs-up.
Ash grinned. "Thanks. But that's only part of what I'm working on tonight."
The Fairy-Type Revelation
Ash turned back to the computer and began writing a detailed report on the Fairy type. He outlined its unique strengths, weaknesses, and interactions with other types, such as its strength against Dragon-types and its vulnerability to Steel and Poison.
When he finished, he downloaded the document and used the Pokémon Center's phone to call Professor Oak.
The Call to Professor Oak
Far away, in Pallet Town, Professor Oak was working late on a paper about Pokémon types. He was stuck on a particularly challenging section when his phone rang.
"Oh? Ash, calling at this hour?" Oak mused, answering the call.
"Professor, I'm sending you something big," Ash said, his voice serious. "Please read my notes carefully and keep everything secure."
Intrigued, Oak agreed. When Ash sent the file, Oak opened it immediately. As he read, his eyes widened in shock.
"A New Eighteenth type? Called Fairy?" Oak whispered, astonished.
At the bottom of the report, he found a note from Ash, requesting that Oak take the credit for the discovery while keeping Ash's involvement confidential.
"Unbelievable, Ash! This will change Pokémon research forever!" Oak exclaimed. "You've truly outdone yourself. And don't worry—I'll make sure your role stays under wraps."
Ash smiled. "Thanks, Professor. I trust you to handle this."
As Ash ended the call, he felt a mix of relief and excitement. The discovery of the Fairy type would undoubtedly shake the Pokémon world, and Professor Oak was the perfect person to introduce it.
