Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Arriving as Promised
Chapter 49: Arriving as Promised
The next day, at the massive concert venue.
After giving Uta some encouragement, Louis went to find Gordon, the king of Elegia, by himself.
"Gordon, can you prepare a Video Transponder Snail for us?"
Gordon, who was anxiously checking the equipment, was taken aback. He turned to look at Louis. "A Video Transponder Snail? Mr. Louis, are you planning to record Uta's first concert?"
Louis nodded and replied in a low voice, "Yes. Uta's father might be late. I want to record Uta's concert and give it to him when he arrives."
"Uta's father?" After some thought, Gordon readily agreed to the request. "No problem. Before it starts, I'll arrange for someone to deliver a Video Transponder Snail to you."
Video Transponder Snails were not uncommon in Elegia, with its rich musical atmosphere. Many people used them to record their own performances.
"Thank you very much," Louis said, expressing his sincere gratitude.
Gordon shook his head and then smiled. "We should be the ones thanking you!" His gaze fell on Uta, who was in the middle of her preparations, his tone filled with joy. "That child's singing voice is a treasure bestowed upon this world by heaven."
"For you to bring her to this country, allowing us the honor of teaching her, is a very rare opportunity for us!"
Then, Gordon pretended to casually glance at Uta and tentatively suggested, "Perhaps, if Uta were to stay here, she could achieve unimaginable success. Perhaps she could even be comparable to the legendary figures of Elegia from centuries ago."
Louis heard this, guessed Gordon's intentions, and smiled as he shook his head in refusal. "Uta is our important partner. We will not be staying here for a long time, much less leave her alone somewhere."
"Is that so?" Gordon sighed at his words. But he didn't dwell on it. Uta wasn't born in Elegia, and he had no right to dictate her life. Providing Uta with the nourishment to grow was the only thing he, and the musicians of Elegia, could do.
After a long while, night fell, and the concert was about to begin.
In the huge bay at the edge of Elegia, giant searchlights were lit one by one. The vast majority of Elegia's citizens and musicians, holding tickets with the colorful "UTA" logo, lined up to enter the concert venue.
The crowd was scattered on the open ground on both sides of the bay. As far as the eye could see, it was a dense mass of people. Even some of the reefs in the middle of the sea were occupied.
Louis and Yelena sat on the reef closest to the stage, quietly waiting for the concert to begin.
Time passed, second by second.
Soft lights lit up the stage. A special stage screen displayed a moving scroll painting of ocean waves, with giant green crystals arranged on it.
The small girl with red and white hair, dressed in magnificent clothes, showed no stage fright in front of the tens of thousands of spectators, walking gracefully across the stage. As she walked, the beautiful songstress's lips moved slightly, and a clear, pleasant sound fell, swirling with the gentle breeze.
One by one, tall, beautiful girls in gorgeous long dresses, with a pair of snow-white wings on their lower backs, descended from the sky. They had obvious joints, and their smiles were identical. These were Louis's prototype Flügels, dancing backup for the petite songstress.
The spotlight focused on Uta, revealing her beautiful form to the tens of thousands of spectators. Uta's figure appeared on the large screens, and her beautiful, moving voice, amplified by high-quality sound equipment, reached everyone's ears.
For a moment, the entire concert venue seemed to ignite. Everyone reveled in Uta's singing.
Yelena sat beside Louis and asked softly, "They still haven't come?"
Louis shook his head without speaking. For a mad dog like Garp, who even Roger would be chased all over by, it wouldn't be so easy for Shanks to escape. If Garp had little interest in Shanks and just gave a half-hearted chase for Roger's sake, it would be one thing. But if Garp was serious about sinking the Red Hair Pirates in the East Blue, then Shanks and his crew would probably have to lose a layer of skin to get away.
The current Shanks was only 27 years old. Although he was strong, he was not yet the Yonko who could suppress an admiral like Green Bull from a great distance with just his Conqueror's Haki, forcing him out of his Logia form. If he were to clash head-on with Garp, who was in his prime, there was no suspense at all.
...
Uta clapped her hands to a cheerful beat, her smile serene and elegant. Her purple eyes first fell on the first reef. When she saw Louis and Yelena, the smile on her face grew even wider.
Then, Uta, still singing, looked around, taking in the tens of thousands of spectators, as if searching for someone.
From famous Elegian songs to popular world music, and then to Uta's own original, stunningly beautiful songs, she stood on stage and sang one after another. She still hadn't found the figures she was hoping to see, but this didn't affect the rhythm of her singing. She firmly believed that her adoptive father and his crew would not break their promise. They would definitely appear at their rendezvous in Elegia and cheer for her at her concert. Because, for as long as she could remember, they had always been like that, never disappointing her. This time would be no exception!
On the reef, Louis slowly turned his head and looked at the sea behind him. Beside him, Yelena saw this and, as if guessing something, followed his gaze.
BOOM—
The sound of a cannon firing carried on the sea breeze, causing the audience to change color. The spectators subconsciously turned to look in the direction of the sound.
From behind the rocks of the strait, a red dragon's head slowly appeared, followed by a sail depicting a skull backed by crossed swords, which fluttered in the wind. A black Jolly Roger flew high, revealing their identity as vicious pirates to everyone at the concert.
On the stage, the young songstress's face bloomed with a bright, beautiful smile. She knew it! Shanks would not disappoint her!
"That's... the Red Hair Pirates who destroyed the most intelligent people in the East Blue!" an Elegian citizen exclaimed.
"He looks to be nearly a nautical mile away from us. He's probably just passing by, right?"
"Why do I get the feeling... that they're running for their lives?" someone lowered their voice and said to their companion.
The next moment, his words were confirmed. After the pirate ship was fully revealed, an even larger warship appeared right behind it. On its bow, the dog's head holding a bone revealed its identity.
"That's... Vice Admiral Garp's ship?!"
On the other side of the stage, Gordon's face changed as he watched the pirate ship being chased by the warship. But he quickly remembered what Louis had said not long ago, and he instantly understood everything. He subconsciously looked at Uta, who was clearly raising her voice.
The next moment, he ordered the staff beside him: "Everyone, turn the volume up to the maximum without damaging anyone's hearing! We have to make sure they can hear it on the sea!"
