Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Capone Bege’s First Naval Battle
"Speak."
Karl didn't expect Olvia to make any further requests.
Nevertheless, he didn't refuse outright. Instead, he observed her carefully, trying to discern what exactly she wanted.
Olvia took a deep breath and, with a tone of unyielding determination, said:
"Please, rescue everyone except for me!
This all started because of me. I cannot stand by and watch them fall into despair.
But I have no right to continue living, and the World Government has already placed a bounty on my head.
I must die in front of the Navy; otherwise, they will most likely continue to pursue my daughter!"
"So, what you're saying is that you're prepared to die, correct?"
"Yes!"
Seeing Olvia's resolute expression, Karl nodded and did not object.
"In that case, go and persuade those people. By tomorrow night, gather everyone beneath the Tree of Knowledge's plaza.
I need to make some preparations. By tomorrow evening, I will arrive on time to evacuate those gathered. I won't wait past the deadline."
With that, Karl tousled the hair of a bewildered young Robin before soaring into the sky under the gaze of everyone present.
As she watched Karl disappear, Olvia could no longer hold back. Tears streamed down her face.
"I'm sorry, Robin. I'm so sorry…"
She hugged Robin tightly, apologizing repeatedly.
Robin, ever mature for her age, hugged Olvia back and softly reassured her, "Don't cry, Mama. I won't cry either…"
Meanwhile…
Capone Bege found himself in an unfortunate predicament, surrounded by pirates from the West Blue.
Three pirate ships, with nearly a hundred crew members, encircled his vessel.
The pirates, seasoned in naval combat, denied Bege any opportunity to fire his cannons. They continuously maneuvered in evasive patterns to avoid being locked onto.
This was Bege's first voyage. Despite his ship's numerous cannons, his inexperience showed. Facing these battle-hardened pirates, his crew couldn't land a single hit.
Instead, their ship's deck had already taken direct hits from enemy fire, injuring several crew members.
This infuriated Bege.
"Boss, what should we do next? If we keep sitting ducks like this, we'll fail Karl-sama's mission before it even begins!"
"Yeah, Boss! Just give the word, and we'll risk our lives to take down these pirates!"
"No, absolutely not! Even though I'm your boss, we're all comrades.
Every life has value. I won't allow any meaningless sacrifices!"
Capone Bege had been thoroughly "trained," far more easily than Karl's earlier efforts with Enel or Ace.
Unintentionally, his entire way of thinking had been reshaped.
His crew's mindset had also shifted significantly, and they no longer questioned his decisions.
But the immediate crisis left them all teetering on the edge of disaster.
If Bege didn't make a decision soon, they would all be consumed by the pirates' relentless cannon fire.
"All hands, listen up! Don't hold back on ammunition—concentrate firepower to the southeast!
Helmsman, turn the bow immediately and prepare for a breakout in that direction!
I refuse to believe they'll dare block our path in the face of heavy firepower!"
"Yes, Boss!"
Clenching his teeth, Bege ordered a counterattack.
Though previous attempts had failed to hit the agile pirates, he was determined to try again. What if this time worked?
Sure enough…
When Bege gave the order, every cannon on the ship pivoted toward a single direction, unleashing a concentrated barrage of firepower!
The pirates' seasoned skills kept them safe from direct hits.
But just as Bege had predicted, they were forced to open a path to avoid the onslaught!
"Now's our chance! Charge through!"
"Understood!"
With a roar, Bege's ship surged forward at full speed, while another wave of concentrated cannon fire forced the pirates back.
However, the pirates on the flanks continued their assault.
Bege's ship withstood the attacks thanks to its durability. A lesser vessel, such as a merchant ship, would have been destroyed long ago.
"All hands, adjust cannon aim to target the pirate ships on both flanks!"
Bege issued another command, and all secondary cannons swiveled to the sides, opening fire simultaneously!
The pirates, who had been brimming with confidence, were caught off guard.
They had assumed they could easily seize this "big fish."
Their experience told them Bege was a novice at sea combat.
This overconfidence proved to be their undoing.
Bege's sudden shift in firepower sent them into disarray. One of the three pirate ships was sunk almost instantly!
Witnessing this, Bege lit a cigar, inhaling deeply, his face brimming with pride.
"So, this is naval warfare? A single misstep could spell doom. It's both nerve-wracking and exhilarating. Truly, the sea is a man's romance!"
"Then you should strive to grow stronger. With your current skill and experience, venturing out to sea is nothing short of courting death."
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out.
Bege looked up to see a figure in a Navy uniform standing before him.
Moments later, fierce winds and turbulent waves arose as two massive sea tornadoes engulfed the remaining pirate ships without mercy!
"Karl-sama? What are you doing here?"
Bege was surprised to see Karl.
The rest of the crew, upon recognizing Karl, instinctively pulled out notebooks to jot down notes.
Karl chuckled wryly at the sight and waved dismissively.
"Just passing through. Still, I saw your performance earlier. For a beginner, it wasn't bad.
But if a single Marine warship from Headquarters had been hunting you, with your current skills and experience, you wouldn't have stood a chance."
"Is the Navy really that formidable? But the Marines here in the West Blue…"
"The Marines in the West Blue are merely branch forces, incomparable to those at Headquarters. Broaden your horizons—don't limit yourself to the West Blue."
"I understand, Karl-sama. By the way, is there anything I can assist with next?
Though my strength is limited, I excel at gathering intelligence. Please feel free to assign me!"
"Let me think…"
Karl frowned slightly.
He hadn't expected to cross paths with Bege again so soon.
Perhaps, he mused, they were simply destined to meet.
