Chapter 11: Chapter 11
"Hmm..." Rogu couldn't help but say. "A successful promotion? Are there really times when it doesn't work?"
Everything in the world has two sides: if there is success, then there is also a possibility of failure. The sudden message made me think: does this process not guarantee 100% success?
The Rogu system, although it provided the opportunity to strengthen one's forces, seemed somehow unfinished, as if not fully completed. It did not provide detailed and convenient explanations, which created certain difficulties. And everything had to be mastered by oneself, by touch.
"How I envy those heroes whose system explains everything: how to improve abilities, how to dominate this world..." Rogu sighed. He could only dream of such a function. Oh... how much time and nerves it would save!
Before leaving the dark alley, Rogu decided to test one more feature of his system - he tried to extract some money. And after using it, the money appeared right in his palm, which turned out to be quite convenient. At least it didn't appear out of nowhere in front of him, falling loudly to the ground.
"Now that's nice," he nodded approvingly. If money appears in his hand, it will allow him, if necessary, to pretend to be a wealthy person, even if his pocket is empty. Convenient and unnoticeable.
Having reached the city center, Rogu began his leisurely stroll. The town was small, but had its own unique architecture. The streets were bustling with life: the flow of people was quite dense, giving the atmosphere a lively feel. However, as often happens, people of all stripes met in such diversity.
Rogu was deep in thought. He had two important questions on his agenda. The first was where to stay for the night. It was not difficult: there were plenty of hotels in the city. The differences between them were only in the level of comfort, but Rogu was not too picky. The main thing was to find something suitable.
The second question was more difficult - he needed a boat. Without his own vessel, neither a hunter, nor a pirate, nor even a lookout has anything to do at sea. But after walking around the city, he still couldn't find a place where he could buy a ship.
"If I really want to be a pirate hunter, I don't think I should be robbing or anything like that," he sighed. "If only I'd known earlier, I would have taken Marcello's ship."
But this was just an empty regret. Marcello's ship was too big for one person. And to manage such a vessel alone was an impossible task. So the question of the boat remained relevant, although Rogu was in no particular hurry. If nothing worked out at all, then he could always turn to Lester.
- Hmm... By the way, when I think about Lester, for some reason I get the feeling that I forgot something, - he said, paying for the hotel room. But, shaking his head, he added: - Okay, if I forgot, then it's not that important.
The hotel he stayed at turned out to be quite decent. He was especially pleased with the soundproofing. The building combined a bar on the first floor and rooms on the second. Despite the noise and bustle below, behind the closed door of the room there was peace and quiet, which was an undoubted plus for guests. And if you can't sleep at night, you can always go downstairs, have a drink or a snack - and all this at reasonable prices.
Rogu had lunch in the bar on the ground floor. The owner offered his signature dish, lobster curry, which was enough to whet your appetite just by looking at it. Once he was full, he returned to his room and, settling down, began to think about his system, trying to better understand its capabilities. At the same time, he outlined his immediate goals.
It turned out to be quite simple: since the coins were able to enhance his abilities, it meant that his short-term goal was to earn as much money as possible to buy coins. And the best way to earn money, without a doubt, was to hunt pirates.
For the capture of a pirate, the Marines paid a reward equal to the full amount of the reward declared for his head. If the pirate was killed, then only half of this amount could be received. However, even in this situation, this method still seemed profitable.
"But why don't they double the reward?" Rogu wondered. It seemed strange to him that only half the reward was given for a kill. Especially considering that the reward for catching him alive was not increased in any way. Logic dictated that killing a pirate was much more profitable than taking the risk of delivering him alive.
"Is this a hint that I should go down the path of bloodshed?" he muttered under his breath. The question remained unanswered for now. Rogu decided that at the first opportunity he would try to capture the pirate alive and see what would happen.
He spent the rest of the day training his sword style, Heart of the Moon. After another level-up, his knowledge of swordsmanship had noticeably deepened. If it were described in terms of old battle novels, it would be said that his skill had risen to a new level.
"But technique is just technique. It does not increase my physical strength. Yes, my combat power has increased, but the basis of my strength has remained the same," Rogu thought, analyzing his successes. "Ultimately, physical training is still the key factor. How strong a blow is depends not only on skill, but also on the strength of the body.
Suddenly it dawned on him.
- Wait a minute! Speaking of strength... It seems I have one skill that I completely forgot about!
He opened his Hunter License and looked at the list of skills. There were only two on the list so far, and one of them immediately caught his attention.
"Hmm... Superpower," he read. When he first received this skill, it seemed to him that something had changed, but at the time he did not attach any importance to it.
"Well, maybe this skill really does enhance my physical strength. So, I can skip training altogether and just spend money to improve this skill?" He found the idea tempting. "Okay, next time I'll try to raise its level. After all, I just didn't pay attention to it before."
Having formed his short-term plans, Rogu decided to take a walk around the city. The walk turned out to be productive: he finally found out where he could buy a ship. However, there was no time left to complete the purchase, so he decided to put it off until tomorrow. So, as dusk fell, Rogu returned to the bar.
"Owner, I'll have one portion of the lobster curry!" he ordered, looking forward to dinner. The delicious dish soon appeared in front of him. Rogu was about to start eating with gusto, when suddenly the door of the bar swung open with a loud bang.
Rogu felt a dark shadow cover him. It seemed as if something huge had entered the room. He turned his head - the first thing that caught his eye was a pink shirt with flowers. Then his gaze rose higher and he saw a freckled face. A massive mace with spikes rested on the shoulder of the person who entered, and small, pea-like eyes sparkled with a predatory gleam.
"I have a feeling that I have seen this man somewhere before," Rogu said, trying to remember the face that seemed familiar to him.
All the bar patrons also turned their attention to the thug. The atmosphere immediately became tense: it became clear that this man had not come here with peaceful intentions, and someone from the crowd exclaimed in fear: - It's Alvida!
- A pirate captain with a five million reward? What is she doing here?!
"Don't look her in the eye, she'll kill you!" someone warned in a whisper.
Rogu blinked at the name. Alvida? Yes, the name did sound familiar. But five million? And that was considered a major pirate?
He snorted skeptically as he thought, "That's not even enough to raise the cost of one skill."
Meanwhile, Alvida smiled predatorily, and her voice echoed throughout the hall: "Koby, tell me, who is the most beautiful woman on this sea?!"
Her voice sounded like a clap of thunder, causing everyone to flinch.
