One piece: Pirate hunter system

Chapter 10: Chapter 10

About four hours later, the ship docked at the shore. It was a special port of the Marine Watch in the city of Low. All the ships moored in the port belonged to the Marines.

And it's no surprise - the Marine Patrol's position obliged them to do so. If, in the event of an emergency, they had to coordinate their actions with civilian ports, it would not only be inconvenient, but downright stupid.

Therefore, where possible, each branch of the Marines had its own port to be prepared for any eventuality.

Rogu followed Lester down from the ship, whose face was clearly displeased.

Lester had been confident the entire trip that he could convince Rogu to join the Marines. But to his disappointment, he never even got a chance to start the conversation.

Rogu completely ignored him. Not only did he not eat or drink, but he didn't even go to the toilet during the entire four-hour voyage, which drove Lester, who was guarding him at the door, to a state of despondency.

Lester glanced at Roga, who was clearly enjoying the scene, and couldn't help but say, "This is the Marine branch in Low City. Listen, this is the last time I'm inviting you to join us."

"No," Rogu answered calmly, shaking his head. "I have my own things to do."

Lester froze, looking warily at his interlocutor: "You're not planning on... becoming a pirate, by any chance?"

Rogu shook his head again: "Being a pirate is too risky. Being a hunter is much more profitable."

"What?!" Lester was taken aback. His logic dictated otherwise. In a world where pirates ruled the seas, bounty hunters themselves became targets. Wasn't that right?

— What? Give me the money! — Rogu interrupted him, starting to bend his fingers. — Let's count. These pirates you captured thanks to me — a total of one hundred and eighty-three people. Five thousand for each — that's nine hundred and fifteen thousand. Let's round it up to nine hundred and twenty. And the reward for Messero is nine million beli. That's nine million nine hundred and twenty thousand in total. Besides, the things on the ship — I'll sell them to you for fifty thousand. Will you take them?

- Crap!

Lester felt his heart sink. He had tried so hard to win this guy over to the side of justice, and all he could think about was money!

Gritting his teeth, he could hardly contain his anger, but he still answered: "I'll take it!"

"Excellent. Money in advance and we'll go our separate ways," Rogu concluded.

Lester, seething with indignation, went to fill out the paperwork. His actions were so quick and abrupt that it seemed as if he was about to explode.

Less than half an hour later he returned to Rog with ten bags in his hands.

"One package is one million. Consider the rest a bonus from me. Don't thank me!" he muttered irritably, throwing the money to Rogu.

Rogu blinked at the money. He couldn't help but think that the phrase "I've never seen so much money in my life" perfectly described his state. As he accepted the money, he wondered if he should say something polite to smooth things over. But then the inscription appeared before his eyes:

[A new reward is ready to be credited. Would you like to deposit it into your account?]

"Personal bank?" Rogu muttered. And considering it inappropriate to demonstrate such a function in front of Lester, he simply turned and left.

Lester, left behind, stood with his mouth open and his fists clenched.

- This guy... didn't even bother to say a polite phrase!

...

Let's leave Lester to seethe in his indignation. Rogu, having received the money, left the Marine branch and headed out into the city streets.

The architecture of the buildings around him was quite unusual. A quick glance at them made him feel like he was discovering something new. Then he turned into a dark alley.

To his surprise, there were no robbers there, as he expected to meet them.

The alley was silent. After all, Rogu had left the Marines' branch - even the most money-hungry bandits wouldn't dare rob someone so close to their territory. This slightly disappointed Rogu. However, he sighed and selected the option: - Deposit to account.

After that, a field for entering the amount popped up in front of him. After entering ten million, he saw the money disappear from his hands.

[Enrollment completed!]

The text appeared again, but this time it read:

[Coin Shop Activated!]

— ...

Rogu looked at the message with mild surprise. Of course, there was another function worth investigating. However, despite the notification that appeared, he could not immediately find the entrance to the so-called Coin Shop. It was only after he opened his Hunter License that he discovered this item at the very bottom of the document.

Rogu clicked on the Coin Shop icon and immediately understood why this shop was activated only now. There were only three products inside. Everything is as simple and clear as possible:

Black Iron Coin: 10,000,000 Beli

Gold coin: 1,000,000,000 belli

Diamond Coin: 100,000,000,000 Belli

The cheapest coin, the black iron one, was worth ten million belli. Obviously, as long as Rogu's balance was below that amount, there was no point in opening the shop. After all, he wouldn't be able to buy anything anyway.

"So that's the question: what are these coins for?" Rogu muttered, frowning.

There were no explanations in the store. This irritated him a little.

"Buying something for such a huge amount of money, without even knowing what it's for, is, of course, a risk... But if it's part of my system, then there probably won't be any harm from it. After all, it's not some kind of insidious trap," he reasoned.

After thinking for a while, he decided that the best way to understand what these coins were for was to simply buy one.

He glanced at his balance. After the recent replenishment, he had 14,625,500 beli. Even if he spent ten million, he would have just over four million left over—enough to not worry about money for a while.

Having made up his mind, Rogu selected the "Buy" option.

[+1 Black Iron Coin]

Immediately after the purchase, a notification appeared in front of him. Rogu looked at his hunter's license again. As expected, ten million disappeared from his account, but the document itself had changed.

At first glance, everything looked almost the same as before. But upon closer inspection, he noticed a couple of details. His license now read:

Hunter's License!

Owner: Norlos Rogu.

Skills: Heart of the Moon, level 3 (+). Super Strength, level 1 (+).

Coins: Black Iron Coin x1.

Belly: 4,625,500 (available for withdrawal).

The difference was in two things: firstly, there was a coin balance item, and secondly, "+" icons appeared next to the names of his skills.

"This... looks suspiciously like the interface of some game," Rogu muttered, tilting his head.

He clicked on the "+" next to "Heart of the Moon, Level 3" and a notification immediately appeared in front of him:

[Do you want to spend one Dark Iron Coin to level up the Moon Heart skill?]

- Yes.

Rogu confirmed. At that moment, he remained calm, but only until the next moment...

Suddenly, he felt a strange and unfamiliar sensation sweep over his consciousness. His head was literally bursting with information. This process lasted only an instant, but to Rogu it seemed like an eternity - as if he had lived several years in a split second.

[Promotion successful!]

Rogu opened his eyes, feeling refreshed.
