"One Piece: I, the Strongest Intern of the Roger Pirates"

Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Facing the Enemy

"Shh! Keep quiet! We'll start exploring from the innermost area. If we encounter any enemies, don't panic!"

Inside the ship's cabin, it was eerily quiet. Since everyone was fighting outside, there shouldn't theoretically be anyone here. Still, Fang Yi warned Shanks and Buggy to stay cautious.

Unlike the obedient Shanks, Buggy's eyes lit up with excitement, eager to rush off in search of treasure.

"Buggy! If you can't stick to our agreement, I'll send you back right now!"

Fang Yi said firmly.

"Alright, alright! I get it!"

Buggy replied, clearly impatient.

"Let's move!"

Fang Yi, keeping a mental note of Buggy's behavior, led them deeper into the ship.

Typically, the captain's quarters were located at the very back of the ship, and that's where the most treasure would likely be.

But just as they turned the first corner, Fang Yi, who was leading, suddenly stopped.

"What's wrong?"

Buggy, following behind, asked in confusion.

"Quiet! Don't make a sound. Do you hear anything?"

Fang Yi gave them a signal, then slowly crouched down.

Shanks and Buggy followed his lead, crouching down as well.

Soon, the three of them exchanged glances—they had all heard it.

There was noise coming from below their feet.

"There's another level beneath us!"

Buggy said excitedly, thrilled at the discovery.

This was like an exhilarating treasure hunt!

But Fang Yi and Shanks shared the same suspicion—something wasn't right here. Judging by the noise below, there were quite a few people down there. But their ship was under attack by pirates right now—why weren't those people coming out to help? Why were they hiding in the hidden lower level?

After hesitating for a moment, Fang Yi signaled Shanks and prepared to move on. But just then, he suddenly heard approaching footsteps—and it wasn't just one person.

"Hide!"

Without hesitation, Fang Yi kicked Buggy to push him behind cover, then quickly drew his bow, loading three arrows at once.

Shanks, hearing Fang Yi's warning, immediately darted back to the previous corner to hide.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Just as Shanks finished hiding, Fang Yi released his arrows.

"Argh! Argh! Argh!"

Thud, thud, thud!

Three screams rang out, followed by the sound of bodies hitting the floor. Fang Yi's arrows had hit their marks perfectly.

Without wasting a second, Fang Yi turned and began retreating. The enemies had likely been heading to the deck to provide backup—there were over a dozen of them. Even after taking out three, if he got cornered in such a cramped space, he'd be in serious trouble.

"Get those brats!"

The enemy's shout made Shanks and Buggy tense up.

Just then, Fang Yi suddenly rushed back and told them,

"Don't move yet! Wait for my arrows to clear the way, then attack!"

While drawing his bow again, Fang Yi took a deep breath and gave his instructions.

Shanks and Buggy exchanged glances, instantly understanding his plan. They nodded in agreement.

Soon enough, they heard the hurried footsteps of several enemies approaching.

Five or six crew members in servant uniforms charged around the corner. They were stunned to see Shanks and Buggy crouched there.

But before they could react—

Swish, swish, swish!

Three more arrows flew out, instantly dropping three of them.

"Die!"

Without waiting for Fang Yi's next command, Buggy and Shanks simultaneously attacked the two remaining enemies, each striking down one with their swords.

Just as they turned to Fang Yi, ready to celebrate their success, they saw that Fang Yi remained on high alert, his bow still drawn and aimed at the corner ahead.

"Are there more enemies?"

Shanks and Buggy were startled and quickly looked toward the passageway—but there was no one there.

"Hey! There's no one left!"

Buggy grumbled in annoyance.

Swish!

But just as he finished speaking, Fang Yi fired an arrow right past Buggy's head, making him jump in fright.

"Whoa! How did you know there was still an enemy?"

Shanks grabbed the stunned Buggy and pointed behind him, to the enemy who had just fallen from Fang Yi's shot.

"I didn't know for sure," Fang Yi replied calmly, already preparing another arrow.

"But as pirates, we must always stay alert in battle. Otherwise… you won't live to see your next fight."

Buggy, realizing Fang Yi had just saved him, stopped complaining, though he kept muttering under his breath.

"Be careful. Something's off down here. Judging by their outfits, these guys are all low-level crew. That means there must be someone commanding them nearby,"

Fang Yi warned as he carefully led the way forward, bow in hand.

But as he turned the corner, his instincts suddenly screamed in warning. An overwhelming sense of danger made his heart race.

Swish!

Without thinking, Fang Yi instantly leapt back. A sword narrowly grazed his cheek, leaving a thin cut on his face.

"Heh… Smart little brat. You guessed right—there's still someone in charge down here!"

A deep voice spoke as Fang Yi looked up at the attacker, just as Shanks and Buggy rushed to shield him.

"You bastard! How dare you ambush us! If you've got the guts, come at me! I'll cut you down myself!"

Buggy shouted arrogantly after realizing there was only one enemy.

Ever since they boarded the ship, it had been all Fang Yi's show. If Buggy didn't make some contribution, he probably wouldn't get much of the loot later. Now, he was itching to take out this squad leader and claim the biggest share of the spoils.

However, the enemy wasn't angered by Buggy's taunts. Instead, he simply grinned.

Facing three kids, he wasn't worried at all. In his eyes, Fang Yi's earlier victories were merely due to sneak attacks on his men.

Without bothering to argue, the burly man suddenly swung his sword toward Shanks and Buggy.

Clang!

Shanks tried to block with his sword, but the man's strength was overwhelming—he easily knocked Shanks' weapon out of his hands.

"You idiot! Have you forgotten everything I taught you? Never try to match strength head-on!"

Fang Yi scolded as he loosed another arrow at the enemy.

Clang!

The burly man had to change his attack and deflect the arrow instead of striking Shanks again.

Seizing the opening, Buggy lunged with his sword, aiming for the man's stomach.

At the same time, Fang Yi grabbed the disarmed Shanks and pulled him to safety.

Bang!

As soon as Fang Yi pulled Shanks back, Buggy was sent flying by a brutal kick from the enemy.

"Shanks, get Buggy out of here! I'll handle this guy!"

Fang Yi took a deep breath and ordered firmly.

"Alright, but be careful!"

Shanks didn't act stubbornly. He could tell this enemy was out of their league, so he focused on dragging Buggy away to get reinforcements.

"Hahaha… You're going to fight me alone, kid?"

The burly man laughed mockingly as he watched Shanks and Buggy retreat.

"Your archery isn't bad—but in this kind of environment, you archers are at a huge disadvantage!"

The ship's narrow corridors left little room for dodging, and Buggy had barely been able to resist before getting knocked out.

"Against you… It's enough!"

Though Fang Yi spoke confidently, his palms were already drenched in sweat. This wasn't a friendly spar—if he lost, it could cost him his life.

"Hahaha! Fine! After I kill you, I'll send your friends to join you!"

The burly man charged forward, sword raised high.

"Take this!"

Fang Yi retreated while firing an arrow—but his shot was off, his hands trembling from fear and pressure.

Swish!

The man tilted his head and easily dodged it.

"Kid, I'll admit your archery isn't bad—but you're still far from threatening me! Hahaha!"

Seeing Fang Yi's panic, the man laughed arrogantly.

"Oh really? Then try this!"

Fang Yi suddenly nocked three arrows at once. This time, instead of retreating, he stood firm and unleashed all three simultaneously.

"What?!"

The man was caught off guard. Though he dodged two arrows, one still struck his shoulder.

"You brat! You've pissed me off now! I'm done playing! Go die!"

Infuriated by his injury, the man roared and swung his sword at Fang Yi.

But just then, two figures burst from the corridor—it was Shanks and Buggy, who had seemingly retreated earlier.

"Idiot! You're the one who's going to die!"

Buggy stabbed the man in the stomach, his sword plunging deep.

At the same time, Shanks kicked the man's arm, knocking his attack off course and ensuring Fang Yi remained unharmed.

Earlier, Fang Yi had spotted them returning while retreating—so he'd deliberately changed tactics, feigning weakness to lure the enemy in. His triple-arrow shot had enraged the man, making him reckless and lowering his guard.

"Wahaha! I knew I was a genius! Hmph! You dared to kick me? Now you're dead—at my hands!"

Buggy burst into gleeful laughter after his successful sneak attack. He even started kicking the fallen enemy repeatedly, clearly taking revenge for being kicked earlier.

"Enough, Buggy! Don't get too cocky—stay alert! There might be more enemies nearby!"

Though Fang Yi had made it through without injury, the intense fight had drained him both physically and mentally. Now that it was over, he could feel his body going weak from exhaustion.
