Naruto: The Medical Shinobi

Chapter 228: Chapter 225: Ryu vs Jisatsu Squad

Ryu's Carbon Cards embedded with various fuinjutsu seals were dominating the battlefield. It was figuratively and literally his trump card.

As the enemy ninjas struggled to dodge the relentlessly pursuing cards, A few of the smarter ones, likely higher-ranking Jonin or experienced Chunin, reacted decisively. Channelling lightning chakra into their swords, they moved and sliced through the carbon cards, attempting to disable them before they could reach their targets.

Ryu clicked his tongue softly, a tiny sound lost in the chaos. "There's a slight time delay between the trigger and the explosion," he thought, observing their counter. "Lightning jutsu on the swords... clever. They're using that delay to disable the card before the explosive seal can activate."

Ryu quickly realised that he needed a new strategy to outsmart his opponents. As he watched the skilled shinobi in action, he knew he had to think fast in order to turn the tide of the battle in his favour.

One of the enemies shouted, warning his comrades, "Be wary of the cards! They may be some kind of fuinjutsu paper bombs!"

Others followed suit, attempting to slice the cards with their weapons, but not everyone was fast enough. One card exploded before it could be cut, a sharp blast of chakra and force. Ryu smirked as he saw the chaos unfold and realised his new strategy was working. He continued to strategically place more explosive cards, gaining the upper hand in the battle.

"One enemy down," Ryu thought, observing the result. The explosion occurred in close proximity to the ninja, completely destroying him, leaving no trace. The blast also blew apart the [Jisatsu Seal] on his body, preventing it from activating.

The remaining enemies, having evaded or disabled the first wave of cards, looked frantically to where Ryu had been standing but found that he was not there at all. Ryu had moved silently in the chaos.

Kaminari looked around, his eyes scanning the battlefield, and suddenly felt a prickling sense of danger, a survival instinct honed by countless battles. He jumped back in time just to avoid a card coming near him and exploding with a sharp blast. The explosion's push caused him to slide back a few feet, momentarily off balance.

Ryu used more cards this time, throwing them into the newly created gaps in the enemy formation. These weren't explosive cards this time; they were smoke cards. The enemies, expecting to neutralise them as before, sliced through the carbon, but instead of being disabled, the cards exploded in clouds of smoke upon impact, covering the immediate area around the ninjas who cut them.

The battlefield began to fill up with localised pockets of dense smoke, adding to the escalating chaos. Outside the smoke, Ryu's vision shifted. Using [Infrared Vision], he could see the heat signatures of the enemies clearly. His [Hyperphantasia] overlaid this thermal data with additional information – it was like a game display, visualising the enemies' actual photos pinned above their heads, showing their position and status through the opaque haze.

"This is like using a see-through wall cheat code in real life," a thought popped into his mind, an unexpected but fitting analogy.

Ryu quickly scanned the battlefield, moving and planning his next move, taking advantage of this inferred vision to gain the upper hand in the battle. With this advantage, he was able to anticipate the enemies' movements and plan his attack accordingly.

"My secretary spammed smoke bombs very efficiently earlier,"  he thought, remembering Kaori's tactics.

Ryu activated [Reflex Guard – Trampoline], creating temporary chakra platforms beneath his feet. He then began to jump left and right above the smoke, moving rapidly from one platform to the next, ready to use his advantage and throw more cards to kill the enemy while hidden and mobile. His plan was to eliminate them while they were disoriented within the smoke.

Kohinata and the secretary were surprised to see Ryu use the barrier as a foothold in the middle of the air to jump around with very high speed and manoeuvrability. Both Kohinata and the secretary wondered, "How can he do that? It's ingenious."

However, before Ryu could fully execute his plan, the enemy ninjas, having learned from Kaori's earlier tactics and now experiencing the immediate disorienting effect of the smoke cards, reacted swiftly.

They leaped out of the smoke almost immediately, scattering to clear ground, unwilling to be caught blind in the haze again. Ryu's plan to kill them all in the smoke was thwarted.

"They're wary now," Ryu commented, watching them emerge from the thinning smoke, his plan disrupted. "After my secretary used smoke bombs earlier, they immediately ran outside."

As the remaining enemy ninjas regrouped outside the smoke, the fight continued. A ninja unleashed a lightning bolt, sending it streaking towards Ryu. But instead of blocking it with a chakra barrier, which consumed more energy, Ryu flicked a card from his hand. The card flew with impossible speed and precision, hitting the lightning bolt head-on and neutralising it with a burst of dissipated energy.

"So the cards can be used this way too," Ryu thought, filing away the new discovery. "The barrier uses too much chakra."

As the battle raged, Ryu focused on conserving his chakra while finding new ways to use his cards in combat. He knew that strategic thinking and adaptability were key to defeating the enemy ninjas stronger than you.

Ryu moved with effortless grace, his comprehensive view of the battlefield accurate, allowing him to identify each enemy's position using his enhanced senses and processing abilities to evade any potential attacks or neutralise them with strategically placed cards.

Another enemy, seeing an opening, again threw a lightning bolt from behind Ryu.

"Boss, look out!" the secretary shouted, a warning sharp in her voice.

But Ryu was already wary, his Peripheral Awareness and Fast Thinking having alerted him to the incoming attack milliseconds before. He gracefully flicked his hand back without even looking, and the card flew in a perfect curve to hit the lightning jutsu, neutralising it before it reached him.

"He did not even look back," the secretary Kaori thought, astonished. "I also did not sense him come back to rescue us. Did he suppress his chakra like I did earlier?" She considered his seemingly effortless movements and reactions.

Kaori spoke out loud, acknowledging, "Boss is a much better sensor than I am."

On the other side of the battlefield, the Kaminari leader, who had sliced one of the earlier cards, looked at it again and picked up a broken piece. He carefully studied it, turning the fragment over in his fingers. "It is as light as an actual card of a game," he thought. It may be slightly heavier, but what is this material?" It felt strange, unlike any paper or metal he knew.

Kaminari cautiously tried to place the broken card in his pocket, thinking the fuinjutsu seal had been neutralised when sliced, only to be surprised by its unexpected disintegration.

After seeing their jutsu defeated by the mysterious cards, the enemy ninjas on the other side of the battlefield changed their tactics.

They first aimed a concentrated volley at one of Ryu's cards that was harassing their ranks, attempting to destroy it with brute force. But the card shifted its axis-plane by 90 degrees to evade the incoming attack. The card moved parallel to the incoming weapons, leaving only a narrow gap of a few millimetres as the shuriken and kunai swiftly passed by its extremely thin edge. All the cards avoided all the cold weapons aimed at them.

Ryu smiled, a look of amusement on his face, finding this development both interesting and irritating for the enemy. Whenever the enemy painstakingly neutralised a card, whether by slicing it with lightning or compelling it to dissipate, Ryu promptly launched a new card that followed them again. This angered the enemy, their frustration growing visibly.

One of the angered Jonin shouted across the distance, his voice filled with rage, "If we catch you, brat, we'll torture you until you beg for death!"

Ryu met his gaze with a calm and defiant expression, responding simply, "If."

Further offended by his nonchalant demeanour, the enemies began to target Ryu instead of cards now and throw sharp weapons – shuriken and kunai barrages – knowing the weakness of [ReflexGuard], but it failed as Ryu could sense them through his [Improved Eyesight] and [Peripheral Awareness] and continued with his card game.

The enemies grew more frustrated as their attacks failed to hit their target, with Ryu's calm demeanour only fuelling their anger further. Despite the chaos around him, Ryu remained focused on his card game, determined to stay one step ahead of his adversaries.

"They aren't attacking with paper bombs," Ryu observed, noting the lack of explosive tags on the weapons they were now throwing directly at him. "They are still confident that they can capture me alive."

Ryu swiftly dodged the weapons, his eyes narrowing as he prepared to show them just how wrong they were in underestimating him.
