Naruto: Tenseigan Eye

Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Chiyo Gives Up, Homura is Speechless

Hatake Sakumo's haggard appearance as he stood at the conference room door said it all—he hadn't slept. Shinki gave him a brief nod but didn't stop to chat, walking straight into the room where the atmosphere was already tense.

Inside, representatives from both Konoha and Sunagakure sat with stiff postures and unreadable expressions. The Third Hokage and other Konoha leaders were present, while the Sand delegation, led by Chiyo, looked equally prepared.

Shinki casually took his reserved seat to the right of the Hokage, noting the daggers Chiyo's glare sent his way.

Chiyo had every reason to be hostile. Over the course of the war, Shinki's actions had dealt significant blows to Sunagakure. His decisive strategies, sneak attacks, and influence at the Five Kage Summit had placed Sand in a precarious position—saddled with a massive war debt and little room for negotiation.

But Shinki didn't mind Chiyo's glare. If anything, he found her frustration amusing.

He smiled at her.

Chiyo froze for a second, then snorted loudly and looked away.

So predictable, Shinki thought. It's hard to negotiate when you can't even look your opponent in the eye.

The formalities began with tea and snacks served by the Hokage's guard. Despite the war and animosity, Konoha maintained its reputation for hospitality.

Once everything was in place, the Third Hokage spoke.

"Chiyo, as the representative of the Sunagakure envoy, please state the purpose of your visit."

Chiyo gritted her teeth but remained composed. "Under the orders of the Kazekage, I have come to Konoha to negotiate terms to end the war. Both of our villages have suffered greatly, and it is time to resolve this conflict through dialogue."

Her tone was calm, but there was an edge to her words.

Homura, sitting at the Third Hokage's side, saw an opportunity to strike.

"Heh! Chiyo, don't try to twist the facts. You started this war! And now, when Konoha is on the verge of total victory, you come begging for peace? Surely you realize that we hold all the cards now!"

His voice was sharp, cutting through the room.

But Chiyo didn't flinch.

Instead, she smiled—a bitter, tired smile.

"Of course, Konoha will win if the war continues. But tell me, Homura, what will Konoha gain from this victory? What spoils will you collect? War reparations, perhaps?"

Her calm tone sent a ripple of unease through the room.

Homura opened his mouth to retort, but then he stopped.

Her indifference was unsettling. Chiyo didn't seem desperate, nor did she appear concerned about Konoha's demands. It was as if she had already resigned herself to the outcome.

Homura frowned, his confidence wavering.

"Of course, reparations—" he began, but Chiyo cut him off.

"Reparations?" she repeated with a scoff. "From whom? Sunagakure is already stretched thin. Even if we agree to reparations, we couldn't pay them. And if Konoha pushes too hard, what do you think will happen?"

The room fell silent as Chiyo leaned forward, her expression hardening.

"Konoha may win this war, but victory will cost you. Your resources are already strained. Your shinobi are tired, your economy is fragile, and your village's security is far from impenetrable. If this war drags on, the vultures circling us both—like Iwagakure and Kumogakure—will swoop in. Are you prepared to fight on multiple fronts?"

Her words hung heavy in the air.

Homura opened his mouth, then closed it again, realizing he had no immediate answer.

Shinki couldn't help but smirk.

"Chiyo makes a valid point," Shinki interjected, breaking the silence. "Konoha will win this war, but at what cost? We've always known this. That's why these negotiations are happening—to end this conflict before it drains us both completely."

Chiyo shot him a surprised glance. She hadn't expected Shinki to speak up, let alone support her argument.

But Shinki wasn't done.

"That being said," he continued, "Konoha's position is stronger than yours. Sunagakure cannot deny that it initiated this war, nor can it deny the destruction it has caused. Reparations are necessary, even if they take time to pay. What's needed is a solution that benefits both sides without leaving either one vulnerable."

Chiyo narrowed her eyes, sensing a trap.

"And what solution does Konoha propose?" she asked cautiously.

Shinki leaned back, his expression calm but firm.

"Reduced reparations, paid over a longer period, along with an alliance agreement to strengthen mutual security. If Sunagakure truly wants peace, then it must take steps to prove its commitment—starting with recognizing Konoha's position in this war."

The room was silent again as Chiyo considered his words.

Finally, she let out a sigh, her shoulders slumping slightly.

"I see… You drive a hard bargain, Hyuga Shinki."

Homura, who had been rendered speechless earlier, finally found his voice.

"This is a fair proposal," he said quickly, as though trying to reassert his authority. "It ensures peace while holding Sunagakure accountable for its actions."

Chiyo didn't respond immediately. Instead, she turned to the Third Hokage.

"Very well. I will take this proposal back to the Kazekage for review. But I warn you, Konoha—if these terms are pushed too far, you may regret it."

The Third Hokage nodded solemnly. "Understood. Let us end this war with dignity and wisdom, for the sake of both our villages."

As the meeting adjourned, Chiyo shot one last glance at Shinki. Her expression was unreadable, but he could sense the tension in her posture.

Homura, on the other hand, looked relieved—though Shinki knew it wasn't because of the agreement. The elder was likely just happy to have escaped Chiyo's sharp tongue.

Later, as Shinki left the meeting room, he muttered to himself with a smirk.

"Chiyo gave up too easily. She must be planning something."

But even if she was, Shinki wasn't worried. Konoha had already shown its strength—and he was confident in his ability to counter whatever tricks she might try next.
