Chapter 136: Chapter 136: The Enemy Arrives
"Hikaru, you're here," Nagato greeted her with a nod before continuing. "As agreed, it's time for us to move against Konohagakure."
"The time has finally come! My Sharingan has been starving—it thirsts for slaughter and battle!" Uchiha Hikaru sneered, her voice laced with icy excitement. She cut straight to the point. "What's your plan? If I don't like it, don't expect me to comply without protest."
Nagato, unfazed by her attitude, smiled calmly.
"Hikaru, I've assigned the main force of the Uchiha Clan to deal with Iwagakure. Their current leader, Uchiha Fugaku, and the rising star, Shisui, are both stationed there. I'd like you to join that front."
A sly smile crept across Hikaru's face. "Very well. I'm satisfied with your arrangements."
"I'm glad to hear that," Nagato said with a polite smile.
Hikaru's sharp gaze met Nagato's.
"After we deal with Konoha, we'll take down Iwagakure too and capture both Tailed Beasts. That's the plan, right?"
"Correct. Akatsuki's true goal has always been the Tailed Beasts. Taking down Konoha is merely a stepping stone." Nagato nodded.
Hikaru crossed her arms, her tone dismissive. "Do as you please. For me, the real task is crushing Konoha and wiping out the Uchiha Clan. Capturing the Tailed Beasts is just an afterthought."
"Those goals don't conflict," Nagato replied, unbothered.
"I'm leaving." Hikaru shot him a sidelong glance. "And don't send anyone else to join me. I have no interest in babysitting so-called teammates on the battlefield."
Nagato had planned to send Kakuzu and Orochimaru as backup, but her blunt rejection left him no choice but to relent. He sighed. "Understood. Be cautious—Uchiha Fugaku and Uchiha Shisui are no pushovers. Both wield the Mangekyō Sharingan and are formidable adversaries."
"You worry too much," Hikaru replied with a wave of her hand. "Even among Mangekyō users, there are leagues of difference!" Without waiting for a response, she strode confidently into the distance.
As her figure disappeared, Nagato let out a weary sigh.
"Are you sure about this?" Konan asked with concern.
"Konan, don't let her youth fool you. Hikaru's combat experience likely surpasses my own," Nagato said with utter seriousness.
"That's impossible," Konan replied, clearly skeptical. "She's only fourteen! We grew up in a war-torn country—we're older and more seasoned than her. You're being too modest."
"No, Konan," Nagato shook his head. "Hikaru isn't like us. She was once a living weapon of the Uchiha Clan. When it comes to battle, she's a true veteran."
"She has such a history…" Konan murmured in realization. "If that's the case, her experience might indeed rival yours."
"But does she have the strength for this? This mission isn't easy," Konan added, her worry lingering.
"Don't underestimate her," Nagato said, his tone firm. "Her strength is immense. Even with my abilities, I doubt I could defeat her."
Konan was taken aback. "Are you serious? She's that powerful?"
Knowing Nagato's strength, Konan couldn't help but marvel. She believed his power was on par with—or even surpassed—that of Uchiha Madara in his prime. Such strength was enough to shake the entire ninja world.
Now, with Iwagakure and Kumogakure allied under Nagato's plan, capturing the Tailed Beasts had become more efficient. Why take them one by one and risk arousing suspicion when they could take them all at once?
"If that's true, then we'll succeed for sure," Konan concluded. "No one in today's shinobi world can stand against power of this magnitude."
"Konan, I'll leave Amegakure in your care. Pain and I will depart now," Nagato said.
With those words, the cloaked figure of Pain Yahiko emerged from behind the screen, clad in the Akatsuki's signature black-and-red cloud cloak.
"Go ahead," Konan nodded.
After her confirmation, Nagato and Pain Yahiko vanished, using incredible speed to head toward the Kumogakure forces.
...
Hikaru's Advance
The Land of Rain bordered the Land of Grass, which Iwagakure's forces were using as a corridor to reach Konohagakure. Hikaru, moving faster than most ninja could even perceive, took only four hours to infiltrate the Iwagakure ranks.
At the forefront of the Iwagakure forces, Hikaru turned her gaze upward, her Sharingan gleaming as she addressed the hovering figure.
"Onoki, where are the Konoha forces?" she demanded, her tone unceremonious.
Onoki, the Third Tsuchikage, scowled in annoyance.
"Hmph! Uchiha brat, you have no manners. Is that how you treat your elders?"
"Manners?" Hikaru sneered. "You've got it backward, old man. If anyone should be showing respect here, it's you."
Onoki spluttered, stunned. "Are you insane, girl?!"
"Enough talk. Where are the Konoha forces?" Hikaru snapped, her patience wearing thin.
"Hmph." Onoki grumbled but reluctantly answered, "At their current pace, we'll encounter them in five hours."
"Five hours? Plenty of time," Hikaru mused, glancing at the thousands of Kumogakure troops behind her. A sinister smile tugged at her lips.
In preparation for the upcoming battle, Hikaru activated her Mangekyō Sharingan. Her unique technique, Hachisen, allowed her to mark targets with an invisible imprint, granting her complete control over their chakra and mental states, regardless of distance.
Without hesitation, she vanished, reappearing among the Kumogakure forces to begin her silent preparations.
