Naruto: Kushina's Redemption, My Revenge

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Are You Scared to Walk Alone?

Orochimaru suggested Chinya take on the role of leading a team of three Genin, explaining his reasons.

After listening, Chinya nodded solemnly.

Orochimaru was right.

Even if he had found Karin's mother, why would Konoha choose her over Kushina Uzumaki, whom they had already invested in?

Chinya realized he had underestimated the situation, thinking finding Karin's mother would easily resolve the issue with Kushina Uzumaki.

Chinya nodded. "I understand now, teacher Orochimaru. I'll lead a team of Genin."

Orochimaru told him, "I knew you'd agree after hearing my reasoning, so I've already spoken to Hokage-sama. You won't need to lead a three-man squad—just one person, but that person must become your disciple."

"A disciple..." Chinya murmured.

As a disciple, Chinya would have to personally teach genuine techniques.

However, what Orochimaru had taught him, aside from Wind Release techniques, was sufficient for instruction.

Chinya agreed. "I understand, teacher Orochimaru. I'll choose one Genin to be my disciple."

"Good. It's better this way. Three Genin might be a burden, but a disciple is different—you should choose carefully. When do you plan to leave?"

"I'm planning to head back to Konoha right away."

"Fine. This is the intelligence report summarizing our current situation in the Land of Hot Water. Deliver it to Hokage-sama for me."

Orochimaru handed Chinya a scroll.

Chinya caught the scroll and bid Orochimaru farewell. "I'll deliver it to Hokage-sama personally. Then I'll take my leave, teacher Orochimaru."

"Go."

Chinya returned to his room, slung a backpack (already packed earlier) onto his back, and left the camp.

Not long after departing, Chinya heard a familiar voice.

"Chinya."

Turning around, he saw that blonde-haired guy. Trouble was coming.

That blonde-haired guy could only be Minato Namikaze.

Minato appeared beside Chinya in a flash.

Chinya gave a dry smirk. "You're really persistent. Don't tell me you came here to see me off?"

Minato flashed a bright smile. "Nope. Didn't I tell you before? I also need to return to Konoha for a short time. Since you're heading back today too, we can travel together—it's nice having company."

Chinya scoffed, glancing sideways at Minato. "Minato Namikaze, let me ask you one thing—are you soft? Do you really need someone to accompany you back to Konoha?"

Minato stiffened briefly, smiling helplessly. "It's never easy getting a kind word out of you."

Chinya ignored Minato completely and walked off without looking back.

Unfazed, Minato followed behind as they headed toward Konoha.

Neither spoke during the entire journey afterward.

Four days later.

Thanks to Chinya's fast pace, they only needed one more day to reach Konoha.

Chinya wanted to meet Kushina Uzumaki as soon as possible, so he decided to push through the night and hurry back to Konoha earlier.

As Chinya was preparing to continue his journey under the cover of night, Minato Namikaze suddenly asked, "Chinya, if I had chosen to help Kushina back then, do you think we could have become allies?"

Chinya looked at Minato in confusion.

Minato gazed at Chinya with a flicker of emotion in his eyes and continued, "It seems like the only conflict between us was that one incident. I didn't realize how important Kushina was to you. In truth, I regretted it too. If I had stopped them from bullying Kushina, perhaps we could have been good friends."

Chinya calmly stared at Minato and suddenly scoffed, "No, Minato. Even without that incident, we would never have become friends, because we were just cut from a different cloth. And honestly, I wished you wouldn't help Kushina at all."

Furrowing his eyebrows, Minato asked, "Why? Jiraiya-sensei and Orochimaru-dono are also two completely opposite personalities, yet they managed to become friends who trusted each other with their lives. Why couldn't we do the same?"

Shaking his head, Chinya replied, "How idealistic. There's an essential difference between us and Lord Jiraiya and Master Orochimaru—because deep down, I truly despise you."

Minato frowned in puzzlement. "Why would you hate me? You must have some reason for hating me, right?"

"What can you do even if I told you? Some things just cannot be forced. We're merely villagers who happen to live in the same village—that's all."

Chinya slung his backpack over his shoulder and walked off into the distance.

Minato stood still, watching Chinya's retreating figure, unable to comprehend.

After a long silence, Minato broke free from his thoughts with a sigh.

"Lord Jiraiya, it seems I really cannot befriend Chinya after all."

...

Due to Chinya traveling through the night, he arrived at Konoha by noon the next day.

Rather than immediately searching for Kushina Uzumaki, Chinya headed straight to the Hokage Tower first to hand in the scroll entrusted to him by Orochimaru, and also to collect his official assignment for the Land of Grass.

Arriving at the Hokage Tower's office, Chinya knocked on the door.

The voice of Hiruzen Sarutobi sounded from within, "Come in."

Chinya entered the room and was surprised to find not only Hiruzen present, but another older man about the same age as him.

The man had neatly trimmed brown hair, narrow eyes that gleamed with calculating intelligence, and a fork-shaped scar beneath his chin. His face was stern and lined with age, exuding a sense of deception and quiet manipulation.

Although it was their first meeting, Chinya recognized the man instantly.

Advisor to the Hokage and leader of Root: Danzo Shimura.

Chinya respectfully greeted both men, "Lord Hokage, Lord Danzo."

Seeing Chinya, Hiruzen's previously stern expression softened into a warm smile. "Oh, it's you, Chinya. It's been a while. You've certainly changed—I can see you've grown into quite the man now. I've been keeping a close eye on you. Your performance during the war against the Cloud Ninja in the Land of Hot Water was exceptional—you managed to complete several nearly impossible missions."

"Chinya graciously replied, 'Thanks to the guidance of Lord Orochimaru and the trust from Hokage-sama, I've been able to grow to this extent.'"

Hiruzen Sarutobi nodded with satisfaction.

He never imagined that Chinya, once rejected by everyone, would reach such a level and become a truly dependable ninja of Konoha.

Although the current situation in Konoha was grim, promising young ninjas like Chinya, Minato Namikaze, and the new generation of Ino–Shika–Cho were gradually proving themselves.

Seeing these rising stars, Hiruzen Sarutobi felt increasingly confident about the war to come.
