Chapter 25: Chapter 25
Krr…
Like the chirping of a thousand birds, the silky threads of lightning gradually thickened to the size of a little finger, raging and piercing the air around Kano. And just a moment later, the air smelled of burning.
The sharp pain that shot through his entire body made Kano narrow his eyes slightly. He instantly realized that the lightning that had been converted from chakra was too powerful, burning his cells and skin. He immediately consciously tried to reduce the release of chakra, and the lightning bolts as thick as his little finger turned back into silk-thin threads, continuously stimulating the cells throughout his body, but this time without burning them with excess energy.
The smell of burning in the air made Kyuko realize what had happened. He looked at Kano, who was wrapped in the same electrical net as himself, and his eyes showed only amazement.
The ability to transform chakra into lightning to stimulate rapid cell division and, as a result, the body's activation, was not available to everyone. After all, even among the Kumogakure shinobi who specialized in Raiton, only a few could masterfully use this technique, and the most outstanding among them was, of course, the Raikage. And the fact that a boy from Konoha could instantly master this technique just by looking at an example seemed incredible. But the smell of burning in the air forced Kyuko to admit this fact.
In just a few moments, he tried it, applied it, immediately discovered the error, corrected it, and reached a near-perfect level. It was terrifying. At this thought, Kyuko felt a killing intent. Such an opponent would become truly terrifying in the future. And now, perhaps, he had his only chance to deal with him easily.
"Stimulating cell division certainly increases speed, but it requires a huge amount of chakra. He's only a genin, his chakra reserves are limited. Even if a quick attack doesn't kill him, it's enough to just hold him back until his chakra runs out," Kyuuko thought. At that moment, he truly perceived Kano as an equal opponent and began to act much more seriously.
It was unknown how many more Konoha shinobi would soon arrive to help. Knowing that there was no time to waste, Kyuko rushed towards Kano and plunged his lightning-wrapped blade straight into his face.
Kano saw the blade, his body reacted instantly, and he dodged the direct thrust, stepping sharply to the side. Kyuko seemed to have anticipated this dodge. So as soon as his strike hit empty air, he turned the hilt of the sword, pointing the blade towards Kano's neck and slashed it.
Even before the blade touched his skin, Kano felt the chilling breath of steel on his neck. He caught the cold glint of metal out of the corner of his eye, and he abruptly lowered his head, dodging the blow aimed at his neck, and then swung his arm, and his kunai darted towards Kyuko's wrist. Kyuko, squinting, deflected the kunai with a lightning-fast movement of his leg, then turned and, using the rotation of his body, slashed his sword hard at Kano's side, as if intending to cut him in half from the shoulder.
The blow was powerful and crushing.
Reacting instantly, Kano quickly changed his body position, pulled his hand back, and raised the kunai, accurately blocking the blow. However, the powerful force emanating from the blade still sent a sharp pain through his wrist.
Kano frowned, realizing for the first time the difference between a kunai and a real weapon. If he had a blade like Kyuuko's, even without any swordsmanship, he could, with his superior reflexes and coordination, effectively defend himself against an opponent who was skilled in wielding a blade. And now, despite the fact that he was repelling all of the enemy's attacks, the strain on his wrist was steadily increasing.
"Even if my body catches up with my reaction, I still can't win?" flashed through his mind. The feeling of dissatisfaction immediately disappeared. Kano forcefully pushed Kyuko's sword away, but as soon as the blade was blocked, it rushed towards his face with even greater speed.
Kano's expression changed. He planted his feet on the ground, threw his head back slightly, and jumped back in one bound.
Shukh!
Blood spurted out! - a deep wound appeared on Kano's body from his chest to his stomach. Despite his quick reaction and timely dodge, he was unable to completely avoid the blow.
The smell of blood filled the silent night, and Kano stepped back, overcoming the pain. This wound was serious enough to completely destroy his advantage in the fight.
"How to win? How to win?" Kano's eyes danced with mad lights. His gaze was fixed on Kyuko and his bloody blade. But how can you defeat an opponent who is superior to you in everything? No, there is no chance. Not at all!
The only way to gain an advantage is to use your body for a suicide attack.
"Only like this… only like this?" A pale smile appeared on Kano's lips, the madness in his eyes grew stronger, and underneath it, a burning dissatisfaction was hidden.
"I won," Kyuuko said coldly, looking at the deep, jagged wound on Kano's chest. He was finally able to breathe out in relief, but then his eyes flickered. He suddenly realized that this sigh of relief after the decisive attack was caused by the boy's actions...
He raised his head again, and took a deep breath, looking at his opponent. He had walked a long way, stepping over the corpses of powerful enemies, with only a blade in his hand, and he had never experienced anything like this before. For a moment, a fleeting, barely perceptible feeling of anxiety came over him.
"In any case, the main thing is to kill him." Kyuko froze, and his body was enveloped in an even more powerful aura of lightning, and the electrical discharges on the blade became thicker and brighter.
Shhhh…! - a whistling sound was heard in the air.
Kyuuko disappeared in an instant, and the next moment he appeared in front of Kano. This was the maximum speed he could achieve with all the chakra he had left. He did not believe that the heavily injured Kano would be able to dodge. However, he did not know that this time Kano had no intention of dodging his attack.
A blue flash of electricity was deeply reflected in Kano's mad eyes. The short blade, wrapped in lightning, easily pierced his left chest, where his heart was.
The feeling of the blade easily piercing his body was transmitted from the sword to Kyuko's palm. He pressed himself almost closely to Kano, and a cruel smile appeared on his lips.
"Go to hell," a cold whisper reached Kano's ears, whose face slightly distorted and his lips trembled.
You will go to hell...
Shuh! - Kyuko's smug expression suddenly froze, and the pain that pierced his heart caused instant fear and mistrust.
Before he could figure out the issue that had arisen, he let out a hoarse cry and, gathering the rest of his strength, kicked Kano.
Kano flew back. The blade that had pierced his body caused secondary pain when it was pulled out. This pain made him scream as he flew through the air, but despite this, he did not release the kunai that slipped out of Kyuuko's heart.
Bam! - Kano's wounded body crashed into the tree trunk, froze for a moment, and then slowly slid down, leaving a thick, bright red trail of blood on the bark.
"You... how are you?!" Kyuko's strength was rapidly leaving him. He looked at the blood gushing from the wound in his left chest, and then, at the last moment, before the darkness swallowed his vision, he saw Kano bowing his head and leaning against the trunk of a tree, holding a kunai in his hand.
"I... could it be that I... in a situation where victory was in my hands, was killed by this boy?" - bewilderment froze in his eyes. His powerful body fell heavily onto the grass, and scarlet blood stained the ground under his feet in a few seconds.
Kano raised his head and looked ahead. He saw the discontent and bewilderment on his opponent's face before his death and smiled.
"My heart is not on the left… I have won" - blood continued to ooze from the wound. Such a wound, no matter how strong the body, will soon lead to death. Therefore, even though he won in the end, death awaited him too.
Feeling his strength gradually fading, and weakness, like clinging ivy, entangling his limbs, he seemed to be able to clearly sense the despair of his body's cells and the fading of his life. A deep sadness appeared on Kano's face...
"I don't want to die, I can't die, I can't die..." - the breath of death was getting closer, as if squeezing the surrounding air, making it difficult to breathe. A mad desire to live filled all his thoughts.
"I can't die, I can't die, I can't die...!" Kano slowly raised the bloody kunai and suddenly looked at his hand. A last hope gleamed in his eyes.
All that remains is to try...
A few minutes passed. Minato, holding Kushina in his arms, ran to the place. Seeing Kano sitting by the tree, they both felt relieved. However, at that moment, Kano's bowed head suddenly tilted to the side.
Seeing this, Minato and Kushina's relief instantly turned to worry.
