Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Konoha Year 29: Kano was discovered by Orochimaru in an abandoned village in the Land of Rain and brought to Konoha. He entered the Ninja Academy that same year.
Year 32 of Konoha. After graduating from the Academy, Kano became Orochimaru's student.
Year 33 of Konoha. That same night, Kano faced the most powerful opponent of his life. Death was near, and life hung by a thread.
Deep night. The cries of a night bird were approaching, like a woman's plaintive cry piercing the heart. In the moonlight, despite the semi-darkness of the forest, it was clear enough how a sharp gleam flashed in the air, appearing as quickly as it disappeared.
Ding! - a loud clang of metal echoed through the forest.
Sparks flew in all directions, reflected in Kano's black eyes. The hand that tightly gripped the kunai trembled, but remained firm as a rock, not retreating even a millimeter. After all, if you retreat, the sparkling blade will mercilessly cut your throat.
"You can see my blade. Not bad, but it's not enough."
There was worry hidden deep in Kyuko's eyes, but he seemed to enjoy the anticipation of killing the genius. Constantly attacking, he uttered a few words every time Kano blocked his blow, which was completely out of keeping with his usual cold demeanor.
Kano remained silent in response to his opponent's words. Or rather, he did not have the strength to speak. As Kyuko had said, he had seen the blade move lightning fast and could follow its trajectory in the air. However, despite the fact that years of hard training had made him physically much stronger than his peers, he was still no match for an adult man whose strength was also based on physical ability.
Therefore, even when he saw Kyuuko's attacks, Kano was unable to counterattack. He could only barely block the katana's strikes with his kunai, resisting the enemy's incredible strength and speed.
Initially, he thought he had a chance of winning, albeit a small one. However, from the very beginning of the fight, he realized how naive he had been. His physical strength, which he had been so proud of, was suppressed. His chakra control, which he had boasted so much, was useless. In the face of the enemy's continuous attacks, he could not even use ninjutsu, only blocking the blade strikes with his kunai again and again. Now, only his eyes, which he had previously paid little attention to, became the key to survival.
Ding-ding-ding…! - sparks flared up every now and then in the dark forest.
"This boy!" Seeing Kano repeatedly deflect his sophisticated and deadly attacks, the previously hidden worry in Kyuuko's eyes became obvious. Although he thought Kano was a rare genius, the difference in strength caused him to underestimate his opponent. Therefore, he did not use his full power at first. Now, although he was able to suppress Kano, causing him a lot of pain, he could not cause him any serious damage.
Crossing his weapons once again, Kyuuko used his superior strength to restrain his opponent, glared at him, and coldly said, "I still underestimated you."
Suddenly, to Kano's surprise, Kyuuko's body became covered in dancing bolts of lightning, and then his blade.
A flash of lightning. That blade was a deadly threat. Kano's pupils narrowed sharply, and he instantly felt Kyuuko's speed increase dramatically.
"Die, boy!" - a short blade, shrouded in lightning, pierced the kunai's defense and rushed towards Kano's throat.
The boy's field of vision was filled with dancing lightning. A familiar feeling, imprinted in the very depths of his soul, pierced his entire being. When had he ever experienced such an unbearable sensation?
It was as if time had stopped. Only once, when he was close to death, had he felt the same.
"No!!!" - the kunai didn't have time to block the suddenly accelerated blade, but the distance to it was still large enough to react.
Poof! - At the last moment, Kano shifted slightly to the right, causing the enemy's fatal blow to only pierce his collarbone. Overcoming the pain, he threw a kunai at Kyuko and at the same time kicked him in the stomach.
Kyuko did not expect that Kano would be able to dodge his fatal blow at the last moment. And before he could be surprised, he saw a kunai flying towards his face. However, knowing the sharpness of his blade, he decided to turn the handle and try to cut off Kano's head. So, sharply tilting his head, he dodged the kunai and, turning his wrist, prepared to decapitate his opponent. But before he could do so, he felt a strong blow to the stomach.
Bam! - Kano's kick sent Kyuko flying backwards, causing him to fly back, still holding the blade that had previously pierced his opponent's collarbone.
Kano pressed his hand to the bleeding wound, his gaze becoming terrifyingly predatory, like a hungry wolf who had spotted his long-awaited prey.
"Raiton…" His cold eyes reflected Kyuko, lying on the ground, still enveloped in the dancing lightning bolts: "Can it be used like this…?"
Muttering under his breath, Kano lowered his head. And suddenly, as if by inspiration, he felt every cell in his body vibrate: "So that's how it can be used…"
Kyuko quickly rose to his feet, his expression icy. Although he had not killed his opponent with one blow, he was certain that with his collarbone pierced, Kano would not be able to withstand another attack.
Thinking about this, he looked at Kano, who had bowed his head, with a murderous glint in his eyes. And suddenly, his cold face twisted into a grimace of horror: "W-what?!"
He saw something incredible. The body of the boy he had just pierced was enveloped in lightning!
Krr! - the quiet, barely audible sound now seemed like thunder, breaking the eardrums.
"How is this possible?!" Kyuko squeezed out these words with difficulty and looked at what was happening with complete disbelief.
