Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Child of Fate? Hmph!
Kazama returned from his promotional run and saw that half the Manga was already sold out. His face lit up like a blooming chrysanthemum.
As for the money, he wasn't worried at all. Uzumaki Village wasn't that big—anyone who took a Manga would eventually have their parents come to settle the payment.
Even after adding a twenty-coin markup from Konoha's base cost, the final price of 120 coins per book still seemed reasonable.
"You better give me sufficient commission for this promotion."
Akaba whispered dramatically, "You wouldn't believe how exhausting it's been overseeing all these illustrations."
"Of course, of course," Kazama chuckled dryly while secretly muttering in his mind.
Tired?
Aren't the clones doing all the work? You didn't even break a sweat!
He couldn't help but feel envious. Being a ninja sure had its advantages. If he could master those techniques too, he wouldn't need to lift a finger himself.
"Oh right, Lord Sarutobi has something and wants to see you."
"No problem, I'll find him later."
Akaba gave a casual nod at first, then completely ignored the request afterward. If it were urgent, he could just use the Body Flicker Technique and arrive instantly. Since the Third wasn't in a hurry, why should he care?
The clones were still working.
There were over sixty children present; it might take quite some time to finish.
"Damn, I still don't have Medical Ninjutsu."
Akaba sighed.
All these kids were members of the Uzumaki clan—taking blood from anyone among them would confirm his suspicions.
However,
without Medical Ninjutsu, if he dared to act, the elites of the Uzumaki clan might descend upon him immediately.
"I guess I'll just have to wait patiently."
According to current developments, with Konoha interfering in the Land of Whirlpools, other ninja villages would probably make moves too.
By then, getting access to the Uzumaki bloodline wouldn't be hard. At the same time, he pondered how to maximize his own interests.
[Combining Shadow Clones with Genjutsu could let me hide my identity entirely.]
Akaba mused inwardly.
Living in Konoha definitely brought peace—but also restrictions that held him back. He needed to break free from these constraints.
Shadow Clone and Genjutsu seemed like good options, although there was one prerequisite.
He needed abundant chakra.
This meant he must first exchange for chakra enhancement through the [Semi-Sage Body Constitution].
Compared to that, an ordinary Sharingan could definitely wait.
Lying on a wooden board, drowsiness crept in as Akaba prepared to take a nap—
"Akaba-niisan, someone's coming. Three people... no, one of them is a Shadow Clone."
Kyoyuki leaned in close and whispered into Akaba's ear.
Someone coming?
He felt slightly surprised. Ever since his spiritual power improved, Akaba's sensing ability wasn't bad at all. Yet he'd heard nothing, while Kyoyuki not only detected them but even identified the number of individuals and clones.
Such impressive perception talent at such a young age—truly terrifying!
On the battlefield, enemies wouldn't hold any secrets anymore. Fighting would become effortless.
A chill ran down Akaba's spine. He spoke in a low, serious tone, warning her, "Kyoyuki, never reveal this ability to anyone. You must pretend you don't know. Understand?"
"Umm… okay."
The little girl nodded vaguely, half-understanding.
By now, Akaba himself could hear the approaching footsteps of three figures.
Soon after, Orochimaru, Tsunade, and a Shadow Clone of Hiruzen Sarutobi came into view.
"Where's Jiraiya?"
Akaba was startled, then quickly realized what was happening. It must be because the Third had summoned Akaba over, probably because Jiraiya had gone off and done something reckless again.
"Jiraiya has gone missing."
Tsunade's voice cracked with guilt. "If only I had made it in time to help him..."
"Tsunade, this isn't your fault."
Sarutobi Hiruzen's shadow clone shook his head, expression complicated.
"What exactly happened?"
Akaba had a vague suspicion, but he still needed to ask for the details clearly.
"Jiraiya used a summoning technique and then vanished."
Orochimaru's voice dropped lower than usual—something was seriously bothering him.
"The real problem is, I never taught him that summoning technique."
Hiruzen sighed.
Jiraiya was an orphan with no ninja lineage—his parents died during the First Great Ninja War. There was no way he could have just randomly picked up such a rare skill.
These techniques weren't common knowledge; even in Konoha, few people knew about summoning rituals.
A chill ran through Akaba.
Everything had changed!
In the original story, Jiraiya learned the summoning art from the Third. But now, because of Akaba's arrival, the Third had shifted his focus toward the Land of Whirlpools, leaving no time to teach Jiraiya.
So where did Jiraiya learn it?
Without formal instruction, there was really only one possibility: Mount Myoboku—and the Great Toad Sage.
No one truly knew the strength or age of the Great Toad Sage. As the most mysterious figure on Mount Myoboku, he possessed the ability to see fragments of the future. The prophecy of the "Child of Prophecy" was a vision he himself had foreseen.
If it was him, teaching Jiraiya the summoning technique wouldn't be difficult at all.
"You got something?"
Tsunade asked anxiously, seeing Akaba deep in thought.
"It's extremely unlikely Jiraiya could've mastered a summoning jutsu on his own. More likely, some powerful sacred place must've taken an interest in him and granted him the technique."
Akaba explained.
Hearing this new possibility, Orochimaru quickly asked, "Teacher, do you really think that's possible?"
The clone of the Third took a puff of his pipe, paused for a moment, then said, "If someone powerful really did teach Jiraiya the summoning jutsu, getting him there wouldn't be too hard."
Akaba shot a glance at the Third, muttering inwardly, 'That old man definitely figured this out already—he's just letting Orochimaru and Tsunade panic on purpose.'
If the Third really cared about Jiraiya, he'd have used his own summon instead of calling Akaba.
"So... he's probably okay?"
Tsunade exhaled in relief, her tense posture finally easing.
"Yes, though the summoning world contains countless mysterious beings. Finding exactly where he went would be nearly impossible. We can only wait for him to return."
Hiruzen sighed, speaking a truth from his heart.
Mount Myoboku.
Surrounding him were petrified statues of toads, while not far away, an enormous toad and a giant snake stood locked in a tense face-off.
Jiraiya looked around, dazed. "Where the heck am I?"
"A human child… you've finally arrived."
An aged voice echoed from above.
Jiraiya looked up and spotted a small green figure perched atop the waterfall. He squinted—
A toad?!?!
"What the hell did I just land in!"
Jiraiya was stunned too. Never having trained in the Summoning Technique, he had no clue what a summoned beast even was—let alone how powerful Mount Myoboku really was. He thought he'd landed right in the middle of a pack of demons.
"Yes, our Great Elder long foretold that a child would become lost on Mount Myoboku," Sage Fukasaku said calmly.
However, before he could finish speaking, Jiraiya cut him off. "Somebody taught me this ninjutsu in a dream, told me I could use it to turn danger into safety. I actually believed you bastards and came to this hellhole! Let me out—now!"
Jiraiya glared furiously, feeling utterly betrayed.
"Uh..."
Sage Fukasaku was momentarily taken aback, stunned for nearly half a minute.
This wasn't how things were supposed to go!
"Don't worry about it. What matters is that coming here was destined for you, and your name will certainly be recorded on the scroll of Mount Myoboku."
Another toad suddenly jumped out from the side—it was indeed Sage Shima of Mount Myoboku.
"Fate?"
"Exactly," Sage Shima explained. "The Great Elder foretold that you would come to Mount Myoboku and gain the toads' strength."
The more Jiraiya pondered, the odder everything seemed. After thinking briefly, he said, "No, wait, let me get this straight—you secretly taught me this strange technique, tricked me into believing it could resolve crises, then lured me here to fulfill your prophecy!"
"Huh..."
Sage Shima was also speechless. What the hell happened to this punk with white hair? This isn't how things were supposed to go!
"Hmph! If it weren't for all the manga plots I've imagined and worked out, I might've actually fallen for your scam! What are you trying to pull here?!"
Jiraiya, proud of his deduction, stood there self-importantly.
"Enough talk! On Mount Myoboku, you can grow stronger and accomplish many things you previously couldn't. The mere fact that you arrived here proves you are the chosen child of fate!"
Annoyance flashed across Sage Fukasaku's face. What nonsense is this manga stuff? Somehow they've warped this good kid's mind.
Since words of peace got them nowhere, they had no choice but to use force.
