Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Let Her Take Your Surname (Revised)
"You know what, let me pour the water. My dad says we should offer tea to guests."
Kyoyuki stood on tiptoe and poured a cup of water from the table.
As he took the cup in his hands, he noticed a few unknown flower petals floating on the surface, emitting a fragrant aroma.
A little girl from the Uzumaki clan? And so unusually thoughtful?
Cute, caring, polite, and considerate—practically every otaku's ideal girlfriend.
Uh-oh, this feels like a heartbeat!
"Akaba-niisan, why does Naruto-niisan in the painting have blond hair?"
The little girl asked curiously.
In her understanding, all members of the Uzumaki clan had beautiful red hair.
"Because his father wasn't from the Uzumaki clan. His hair color was inherited from his father."
Akaba patiently answered.
"Inherited? What does that mean?"
"It means certain traits from parents can be passed down to their children."
"Oh. Then how come Naruto can't even master the Clone Jutsu? Our Uzumaki clan is very talented; these techniques are easy for us to learn."
...
After several questions, Akaba finally experienced what it felt like being a father.
Painful!
He heaved a sigh.
There's no such thing as an ideal little girl. No matter how cute and thoughtful she might be, a kid is still a kid at the end of the day.
"Big brother, you're the best! You know absolutely everything!"
Asking question after question while watching him closely, the little girl became more and more impressed with Akaba.
"Cough... I just read a lot usually."
Akaba shamelessly replied.
The little girl didn't truly know Akaba's nature. If it were Tsunade instead, she'd probably snort immediately and launch into some sarcastic remarks.
"Oh right, where's your mother?"
The two elders were probably discussing Konoha-related personnel issues in the inner room. Akaba had a feeling that this little girl would soon be forced into the Sakuma clan, so he thought it necessary to understand her family background first.
"Just like Naruto-niisan, I lost my mom when I was little."
The little girl answered without much sadness.
"Hmm, Kyoyuki. There are quite a few manga books at my house. If I invite you to visit my home, would you go?"
"Really?"
Her eyes instantly brightened a bit, but then she looked hesitantly toward the interior of the room.
"Don't worry, Kyoyuki. They're all my friends. If you want, you can definitely go stay there for a while."
At this moment, Uzumaki Shuhai walked out.
"Really? What about Dad?"
"The village needs me. How could I possibly leave?"
Uzumaki Shuhai gently patted her head, his expression warm and affectionate.
As the clan leader, he could secure a future for his daughter, but he couldn't just leave his post himself, or the whole Uzumaki clan would fall apart.
"I'll think about it again."
"Take your time. Brother will be staying in the village for a while."
It'd be such a shame if this little girl were to die on the battlefield. Plus, she happened to have the same eye connection with him.
Just imagine: himself drawing pictures, with a little girl beside helping mix colors—that scene alone made his mind tremble with excitement!
"Cough cough cough!"
Hiruzen covered his mouth and coughed a few times, then subtly kicked Akaba's leg while doing so.
Akaba quickly adjusted his expression to avoid giving anything away.
Inwardly, he found it odd.
He'd barely let his mind wander for a second—how on earth had Hiruzen noticed?
"I'll ask later."
Akaba glanced at Uzumaki Shuhai. Fortunately, the father hadn't noticed. Otherwise, he probably wouldn't have felt comfortable letting Kyoyuki accompany him.
Huh? Why do I care so much?
He fell into thought, wondering whether he had been tricked somehow.
"Akaba, let's step outside first."
Hiruzen Sarutobi said calmly.
"Yes, sensei."
Following him out, Hiruzen stood in the courtyard smoking.
Akaba asked curiously, "Sensei, how did you know I was distracted?"
"You looked exactly like Jiraiya when he zones out."
Seriously?!
Akaba's face froze—this was clearly the ultimate insult!
"Putting that aside," Hiruzen continued, his tone serious. "What do you think about Uzumaki Shuhai's decision to send some children to various clans in Konoha?"
Still puffing on his pipe, Hiruzen showed no trace of humor.
Akaba turned serious too, thinking briefly before replying, "It benefits Konoha. If someone ever releases the Nine-Tails again, we can re-seal it using someone from the Uzumaki clan."
When a Bijū breaks free from a Jinchuriki, the host faces certain death.
"That's Danzo's way of thinking. What's your personal opinion?"
Hiruzen asked again.
"It doesn't really concern me. If the Daimyo gets angry, Hokage will handle it—I'll just keep drawing manga."
Akaba replied lazily.
"Most people in the village probably feel the same, though there are still small groups who oppose it."
Hiruzen exhaled smoke slowly.
As Hokage, he could already see through most situations. What he truly needed wasn't advice itself, but rather someone to discuss things with and help peel back layer by layer until reaching the core truth.
These minority opinions might come from the Uchiha, or perhaps the Hyuga, or even other minor clans. The inclusion of any smaller force could cause ripples through the balance.
"As for the Uchiha," Akaba continued, "whether or not the Uzumaki enter Konoha—they won't be happy either way. The Hyuga clan won't dare say anything while being kept under the Uchiha's thumb."
The Third was at the height of his power; the voices of minor clans were easily dismissed, especially considering this was only about a few children. Public backlash was unlikely.
"Mm, after Kyoyuki goes to Konoha, if anything happens in the Land of Whirlpools, please calm her down. Ideally, convince her to change surnames."
"What exactly do you mean by saying that to me?"
Akaba's expression shifted slightly.
"In our culture, when a woman marries, she usually takes her husband's surname."
The implication behind the Third's words just sounded strange.
"Exactly what it sounds like."
Said Hiruzen, "Recently, the Daimyo has been making moves—first reallocating protective shinobi, and now possibly establishing Guardian Ninja. We still need to maintain appearances."
Guardian Ninja? You mean something like the Twelve Guardian Ninja in the future?
Akaba mused inwardly.
If that was true, it made sense why Konoha seemed so quiet back then—just like in the original story. Later on, they only accepted Kushina Uzumaki while many others seemed to rush into marrying ordinary civilians as if escaping a disaster.
He thought about it for a bit but still didn't have a clear answer.
"Still, I'm glad you've changed your attitude."
The Third reached out to pat Akaba's head—but his hand was swiftly dodged.
"A cute girl. It's a shame she died in the war."
Akaba sighed.
The more he thought about it, the more he realized just how precious peace was in Konoha.
Being a transmigrant who ended up in this era, he considered himself pretty lucky.
"Very well," he said with a slight smile. "As a reward, I'll teach you a Genjutsu."
In The Third's eyes, Akaba had acted purely out of sincerity and goodness in his heart. This alone proved he was fundamentally different from Danzo's dark ideology.
So he decided to share a ninjutsu with him.
"Oh? What jutsu is it?"
Akaba glanced at him. Sure, the Third knew a lot of genjutsu, but not many of them were actually impressive.
Hiruzen Sarutobi said calmly, "It's a ninjutsu my teacher taught me."
The Third's teacher? The guy was behind countless forbidden techniques!
Akaba's eyes lit up. Anything from that man was definitely worth learning.
Then the Third swiftly formed hand seals and channeled his chakra.
