Chapter 2: Chapter 2
An hour later.
Naoki, with Hinata in his arms, jumped through the window into the Hokage's office.
Hinata had already woken up by this time. Remembering the scene of how this older brother saved her, a feeling of admiration and even a certain deification arose in the heart of three-year-old Hinata.
That big bad guy who kidnapped her and threatened to gouge out her eyes was defeated in less than three minutes at the hands of her older brother. That incredible figure left an indelible mark on her young mind. Lying in her older brother's arms, Hinata felt warmth in her heart.
At this time, the lights in the Third Hokage's office were still brightly lit, the old man sat and nervously smoked, his expression constantly changing. The current head of the Hyuga clan, Hyuga Hiashi, and his younger brother Hizashi, were eagerly awaiting news. There were also a few other ninja from the Hyuga clan and a couple of Konoha jonin.
When they saw Naoki suddenly jump through the window with Hinata in his arms, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sandaime-sama, the mission is complete. Hinata is alive and well, all enemies have been killed. I've left the aftermath to Shijima and the others," Naoki said with a smile.
"Naoki, you are worthy of being a jonin. I knew you could save Hinata!" Hiashi said happily. He quickly picked up Hinata and checked her condition carefully.
Naoki yawned, looked at the people, nodded to everyone in greeting, and then turned to the old man, "Hokage-sama, now that the task is completed, may I go back to sleep?"
The third one smiled and said, "Naoki-kun, don't rush. You've made great progress this time. I'm thinking about whether or not to promote you. Even though you've just become a jonin, your strength is enough to warrant a promotion. There's currently a vacant captain position in ANBU, would you like to take it?"
"Promotion? ANBU captain?" Naoki's expression changed drastically when he heard this, and he quickly shook his head and said, "Hokage-sama, are you trying to bore me to death? I don't want to be an ANBU captain. I'm quite content to remain a regular jounin."
Who knows if his system will disappear if he is suddenly promoted to Anbu captain. Although, strictly speaking, a jonin can have any position, the same Anbu captain, jonin instructor or head of some department, etc.
But Naoki also knew very well that once the Hokage started promoting him, he would have no peace in the future, and he also knew that his current position was actually a little special. This can be seen from his behavior earlier, when he calmly jumped into the Third's office through the window.
Hiruzen had high hopes for him and actually raised him as his successor to the post of Hokage.
After all, Naoki can be considered a fairly well-known person in Konoha thanks to his service record. Although he did not have a huge clan behind him, his parents died on a mission for the good of Konoha, and can be said to be heroes, albeit posthumously.
And Naoki himself showed impressive talent and diligence from childhood. At the age of only sixteen, he became a Konoha jonin!
And even then, if he hadn't been seriously injured in the war, which confined him to his bed for almost a year, he would have been able to become a jonin earlier. Even compared to Kakashi, the most famous genius of Konoha, he was only slightly inferior.
In Hiruzen's heart, although Kakashi was now stronger than Naoki, his character still had some flaws. Pulling Kakashi out of his dark thoughts and raising him as a successor would be difficult.
In comparison, Naoki's strength and talent are only slightly inferior to Kakashi, but his character and thinking are very mature and trustworthy. The Third even saw traces of the Fourth Hokage Namikaze Minato in Naoki.
Both of them are civilians, do not have influential families behind them, but are quite hardworking, have a persistent character and are quite popular in the village.
These were the old man's impressions and expectations of him, and Naoki himself clearly felt this.
But Naoki only felt helpless because the reason he was so wonderful and worked so hard before was only because he wanted to get promoted to jonin as soon as possible and then activate the system's functions.
Now that the system is working, he doesn't have to work as hard, and the prerequisite for the system to continue working is to maintain his jonin identity. If he were to accidentally lose his jonin status or get promoted, he would be in big trouble.
So he just planned to peacefully be a normal jounin and then rely on the system to become stronger.
He was not at all concerned with the expectations and hopes of other people.
