Chapter 343: Ch 343 : Hokage Tsunade

In the evening, after finishing her day's work, Tsunade returned home.

From the kitchen came the sounds of busy activity—most likely, Shizune was preparing dinner.

"I'm back," she called out, stepping out of her high heels.

Standing at the entrance, she rested one hand on the shoe cabinet while using the other to rub her ankle.

After wearing black stockings all day, they felt slightly damp to the touch.

Hearing her voice, Hokage Tsunade emerged from the bedroom, holding a drink with a straw, sipping on it.

"What are you drinking?" Tsunade asked.

"A drink called Mango Pomelo Sago, Komachi bought it for me at the hospital. I liked it, so I picked up another cup on the way home," Hokage Tsunade replied, pointing at the coffee table, where two more cups sat—one for Tsunade and one for Shizune.

Komachi was the young woman Hokage Tsunade had met at the hospital.

Tsunade knew her well—she was her subordinate and was often sent on errands.

"Looks like you had a good time at the hospital today."

"Don't even mention it."

Hokage Tsunade sat down on the sofa and said, "The doctors at the hospital—most of them are pretty incompetent."

Tsunade explained, "Konoha has made huge advancements in medical equipment, organ cloning, and bionic prosthetics. Because of that, the requirements for medical personnel aren't as strict as they used to be. They focus more on theoretical knowledge now."

Hokage Tsunade scoffed, "And what use is all that? Can it replace medical ninjutsu?"

Tsunade replied, "Things like limb regeneration can already be done. Now that there's no more war and the world is unified, emergency medical ninjas aren't as essential as they used to be. The focus of medical research has shifted toward treating complex diseases."

"..."

Hokage Tsunade fell silent.

She could understand everything Tsunade was saying, but she couldn't help but worry about the future of medical ninjas.

Tsunade continued, "Our worlds are vastly different now. What I told you before isn't enough to fully explain it. In the future, you may find that even ninjas will become something unrecognizable to us."

Since she often followed Makoto, she was well aware of many of Konoha's current research projects.

The Mechanical Science Research Institute had recently developed a batch of machines that were still in the experimental phase and were being prepared for practical use.

These machines resembled long-term stasis pods but were designed to intensively train a person's body, allowing them to achieve years' worth of training results in a very short period.

Tsunade had been there with Makoto to witness these machines firsthand.

She found them terrifying.

This was nothing short of forcibly accelerating progress.

While ninjas desperately needed strength, obtaining power in this way felt like it would ultimately destroy them.

"He is changing this world… changing this era."

Hokage Tsunade remained silent, the drink in her cup already finished, making a faint slurping sound.

Was everything Makoto had done truly good or bad?

Advanced medical technology undoubtedly served people, but when tools became too convenient, they could also breed laziness.

If machines could fully replace human effort, would ninjas themselves eventually become unnecessary?

Ding-ling—

The sound of a bell interrupted Hokage Tsunade's thoughts.

She looked over to see Tsunade approaching, her expression slightly unnatural as she said, "Can you… take that thing off first?"

Tsunade's face remained calm as she sat down on the couch across from her.

"It doesn't matter. I'm already used to it. If not for certain physical needs, I wouldn't even bother touching it."

Her words were laced with numbness, leaving Hokage Tsunade at a loss for words.

Tsunade picked up one of the drinks on the table, inserted a straw, and took a sip.

"Does Shizune know?" Hokage Tsunade asked.

"I don't know… I mean, I don't know whether she knows or not."

"She's… not a foolish girl."

"Mm."

Hokage Tsunade looked at her calm face and asked again, "Do you hope she can understand you?"

But Tsunade countered with a question of her own: "Understand what? Understand that I was forced? Understand why I ended up like this?"

"..."

"Do you even know what that child feels about us?" Tsunade continued pressing Hokage Tsunade.

By age, Hokage Tsunade should have been older and more experienced, yet at this moment, Tsunade seemed to see things far more clearly.

They had both experienced the highs and lows of life, separations of life and death—but only Tsunade had endured humiliation, coercion, being treated as a mere plaything, and having her dignity utterly torn apart…

When facing Hyuga Makoto, Hokage Tsunade could still glare at him with defiance, choosing death over submission.

Tsunade had once been the same.

Yet, precisely because of that pride, she had ended up in such a miserable state now.

Tsunade spoke slowly: "For Shizune, the best thing is to never know these shameful truths."

From the kitchen, the sizzling sound of oil frying suddenly rang out, filling the living room with noise.

Hokage Tsunade also found herself wondering—what exactly had she gone through to become the person sitting in front of her? Just how cruel were Hyuga Makoto methods…?

"I have something I want to say to you," Tsunade suddenly looked up at her.

"You know he's set his sights on you now. If I'm ordered to do something… something harmful to you, have you thought about what you'll do?"

"..."

With force, Hokage Tsunade crushed the empty plastic bottle in her hand.

"What has he told you to do?"

"It hasn't come to that yet, but it will soon," Tsunade said slowly.

"I have a feeling… and I'm telling you in advance—when that moment comes, I won't refuse him. I can't refuse him. And I won't have any guilt about it, even if the target is you."

Hokage Tsunade was silent for a moment before saying, "I am you, and you are me."

But Tsunade shook her head. "No. Right now, I'm just someone called Tsunade, and you are Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage. You've lived more than ten years longer than me. I hope those extra years of experience will help you hold on to who you are."

The living room fell into silence.

Hokage Tsunade had thought she still had time this morning—she had been too optimistic.

When the moment truly came, she would undoubtedly be caught off guard.

After a long pause, Shizune suddenly peeked out from the kitchen, smiling brightly.

"Master, Lady Tsunade! Dinner's ready, come help bring the dishes to the table!"

Shizune had put a lot of effort into preparing a rich meal, but Hokage Tsunade was preoccupied with her thoughts.

Meanwhile, Tsunade ate with great enjoyment, chatting and laughing with Shizune about everyday matters.

"Lady Tsunade, is something wrong?"

"Huh? No, it's nothing."

"You look like something's on your mind."

"…It's nothing. Seeing how much effort you put into this meal just made me think of the Shizune from my world," Hokage Tsunade said with a smile.

"Oh, I see…" Shizune nodded thoughtfully before asking,

"How old was I when you left your world?"

Hokage Tsunade pondered for a moment. "Probably in your thirties."

Shizune immediately slumped down in disappointment. "Thirty-something… and still no boyfriend?"

Tsunade: "..."

Hokage Tsunade: "..."

"Oh, right!" Hokage Tsunade suddenly remembered something.

"When I first went to see Kakashi, I made sure to mention you."

"Huh?" Shizune looked confused.

Hokage Tsunade said, "Kakashi is single, and so are you. I think you two would be a good match. I told him he should try spending more time with you."

This statement made Shizune blush furiously. "Lady Tsunade, how could you say that to him?! Now how am I supposed to face Kakashi?!"

To her, this was nothing short of a social death event.

Would Kakashi think she had a crush on him and had asked Lady Tsunade to say something on her behalf?

Tsunade chuckled. "If you two really end up together, why worry about things like that?"

Shizune was exasperated. "Master!"

The little commotion ended along with dinner.

To avoid overlapping use of the bathroom, Hokage Tsunade had already taken her bath earlier upon returning home.

She headed to her room and went to bed early.

Lying in bed, her mind was a mess of tangled thoughts.

She pulled open the curtains and gazed at the moonlit night in a daze.

Suddenly, the bedroom door opened, and a figure stepped inside.

Jingle—

It was Tsunade, wearing only a thin nightgown.

Hearing that familiar sound, Hokage Tsunade froze for a moment before sitting up.

"You…"

She wanted to ask why Tsunade was here and why she still hadn't taken that off when it was already time to sleep.

However, before she could react, Tsunade suddenly pushed her down onto the bed.

Hokage Tsunade was shocked. "What are you doing?!"

She instinctively struggled, only to realize that in terms of strength, she was completely outmatched.

Tsunade whispered, "Stop resisting. You know your own physical condition, don't you? You don't even have the Yin Seal."

Hokage Tsunade's body was just slightly superior to an ordinary person's—she could use chakra but had never undergone real training.

Compared to Tsunade's original body, the difference was like heaven and earth.

Even though she retained her battle instincts, experience, and mastery of various jutsu and chakra control, they were meaningless when her physical abilities were so vastly inferior.

Realizing she couldn't break free,

Hokage Tsunade lay pinned against the bed, her hands tightly restrained.

She demanded in a low voice, "What do you want?!"

The person holding her down suddenly fell silent.

After a long pause, Tsunade finally spoke.

"Do you remember what I told you earlier?"

Hokage Tsunade froze for a moment, quickly recalling the conversation from earlier.

"You know he's got his eyes on you now. If I'm ordered to do something… something against you, have you thought about what you would do?"

Her eyes widened in shock. Then, she heard that all-too-familiar sound once more—

Jingle—

"You…"

She understood now.

Why was that sound still present, even at bedtime?

Tsunade couldn't possibly have such a habit.

That left only one conclusion.

That thing had indeed been removed.

And now, it was meant for her.

Hokage Tsunade struggled desperately, but against Tsunade's overwhelming strength, it was futile.

A wave of intense panic surged through her.

This was different from when she had been forced by Hyuga Makoto before.

Back then, at least she could curse and yell at him, venting her rage without restraint.

But now… who was she supposed to curse?

Him?

Or herself?

She felt a hand tugging at the waistband of her sleepwear.

Biting down hard on her lip, she buried her face deep into the bedding.

Her body trembled uncontrollably.
